The strange case of Grichka and Igor Bogdanoff, who have now both died (of Covid).

Here's the NYT obituary for the twins.

That’s really sad, though.

Covid is the least strange thing about them.

I think it's amazing that they lived to be 72. The plastic surgery was so insane.

Can I buy one of those toupees at the estate sale?

Please talk about the twins and the embedded video not covid in general!

Sorry for deletions, but I have to get this post on track. Go back to the open thread to speak on more general topics.

so, let me get this straight
i) The ALIENS, whom want Nothing but Good things and Goodness to All Mankind; met the Bogs?
ii) The ALIENS, wwNbGtaGtAM; genetically Altered the Bogs, and made them the Freaks they are?
iii) The ALIENS, wwNbGtaGtAM; CREATED covid-19, and infected Most of us; so they could kill the Bogs?
iv) The ALIENS, wwNbGtaGtAM; don't seem very nice!
BAD ALIENS!!! BAD!!! BAD!!!

I give them that they did not look 72 years old, but they did look like Muppets.

Why do they both look like Steve Zodiac??

They were essentially the PROPERTY BROTHERS (HGTV) meets Bill Nye, the science guy. They had advanced degrees in physics, but no one could find much merit in their scholarship.

Secondary comment........Why do you link to the paywall at NYT??.....and then scold for not reading the article.

Yes, I had to go to the Wiki page to learn about the Bogdanofff brothers.

They were big in France.

They remind me of that cat lady, Jocelyn Wildenstein. Or what Donatella Versace is becoming.

Rondo Hatton smiles.

I think it probably was plastic surgery overdone, but it is also possible they had some sort of genetic disorder. They were good-looking men in their youth- I wish I was that good-looking.

I had never heard of them but their pictures are all over the internet as come-ons for those celebrity list sites where you have to click 50 times to get to the end of the list.

72 years old. They should have realized that they were at risk.

They were quite handsome in their youth, looking at the old pics - I wonder what perverse mental state got them to want to look this way, and see it as improvement? I read elsewhere that they both maintained, insisting up to their death, that they had never had any plastic surgery, that their features were natural. Such absurdity, the things vanity drives humans to do to themselves.

Looking at the photo our hostess posted, I thought they were characters from TEAM AMERICA.

There's always been a theory that they suffered from Acromegaly. I'm wondering if their appearance was wasn't a combination of that and surgery.

Yancey Ward said...

Their facial structures remind me of famous people with acromegaly- Paul Benedict and Ted Cassidy. Given some of their beliefs manifested in the way they faced COVID would suggest they might have been in denial in treating acromegaly, too.

I keep seeing pictures of one or the other of these guys popping up in spam 'clickbait' ads on various sites.

Never knew who they were.

'They were big in France.'

Is that a good thing?

They remind me more of Maurice Tillet, who wrestled under the moniker "The French Angel", or as Loren said above; actor Rondo Hatton.

Very strange. Nice looking guys when they were young. The Bogdanov affair is pretty interesting. Makes you wonder if PHD papers, regardless of the subject, are just exercises in bluffing.

I just realized that these guys are not Hans and Franz from SNL.

A statement that always brings Jerry Lewis into my mind.
It's interesting to me that only one of the twins had kids.
Anyway, America as the Kardashians, and who knows what they'll look like in their 70s. Maybe no odder than these two.

This blog serves as a backup comments section for the NYT article because (unstrangely enough) the NYT doesn't bother very often to offer its readers the ability to post comments.

Yancey Ward said...

NorthOfTheOneOhOne,

Yes, both of them are closer fits.

The Daily Mail hasn't run anything about the "Human Ken Doll" in quite a while. Maybe severe plastic surgery is a risk factor for covid.

Chuck - please don’t link to Lubos; he’s a crackpot and entangled (physics joke) with the brothers. Peter Woit’s blog is a better source: https://www.math.columbia.edu/~woit/wordpress/?p=12626

This should have been titled "The Strange Face(s) of the Bogdanoff Brothers." I think they must have been huge Siegfried and Roy fans.
