Well, yeah:
I don't even need to refer to the "feels like" number to see that I'm not going out. In fact, I'm trying avert my eyes. Once you decide you're not going out, the cold means nothing. In fact, it gives ease to a day of indoorsiness. You never have to think I should go out... I need to throw myself out of the house.... You just stay in. It's nice. In the old days, when I had to go to work, it didn't matter how cold it was, I had to step up to the challenge, and I did, often walking the 25-minute walk from my house to the law school. It's not really that hard. The main thing is to wrap a scarf around your lower face so the air you breathe doesn't ice up inside your nose.

I get it. We woke up to a 52° morning. Freakin' freezing down here. Had to break out a jacket. My God.
Thankfully when the sun gets going- and it always does down here- we'll reach 75 later today.
I'm sure we'll pay for it in August.
Damn that Global Warming. It’s lost to Global Cooling again.
The feels-like number is nonsense to hype the weather report clicks. If it's -2, it feels like -2.
The actual temperature determines cardiac load. You have to heat up all the air you breathe to body temperature, and that's a load on your aerobic capacity depending only on temperature, not wind. If you can shovel snow at -2 with a big wind, that doesn't mean you can shovel snow at -20 and no wind without getting a heart attack.
Low was 60 here in PCB and has already gone up a couple of degrees. Attribute that to warm air in the Gulf. However, rain expected by 11.
Was in the high 60s yesterday and one of my friends snowbirding down here got his first bike ride since October.
"Boris Johnson has announced the end of all Covid measures introduced to combat the Omicron variant – compulsory mask-wearing on public transport and in shops, guidance to work from home and vaccine certificates – from next week."
British teachers unions and other liberal group predicting death and destruction.
You can't make this stuff up.
"The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) disclosed to a congressional office that illegal migrants flying without proper identification can use an arrest warrant as an alternate form of identification when presenting to airport security, according to a letter the Daily Caller News Foundation exclusively obtained."
85 here but with wind chill feels like 28 in Eurogrees.
The feels like wind chill temperature is a handy guide to nudists whom choose not to protect and nurture their boundary layer.
I used to live in California where frequently in a day in January like today it could easily be 70° and sunny just like today's forecast for the Santa Cruz mountains. Since I moved to New England I have grown to enjoy the cold ice and snow. Seeing people from more temperate States brag about their winter temperatures has the opposite effect of what they intend. You people have no idea what great pleasures you are missing. It also makes you sound soft and weak.
I was out for a couple times for 30 min each.
It was enjoyable. First time I brought out the down parka in a year, thinsulate gloves have been a game changer, and being out in such clear crisp air was fun. I saw something in the last week.
I need to start a new routine, so I'm off for a walk down the road. Atomic clock say -8. 20 minutes out 20 minutes back
Some sage said there is no such thing as inclement weather, just bad clothing choices.
Here in Austin, we went from an 80F afternoon to a 20F morning. My dogs looked at me this morning as if they thought my idea of them going outside for a morning poo was the most insane thing they'd ever heard. Both are curled up in small circles on warm carpet inside now, with their paws and noses tucked into their fur. Not a bad idea. Call me in March.
"By kick-off time, Ryan Morse, a Wisconsin meteorologist, is predicting a temperature of 15 degrees, with a wind chill that will make it feel closer to 0 degrees. The actual temperature is expected to drop even further, to 7 degrees, by the fourth quarter. But the good news is no snow flurries are expected, and the winds are expected to be a manageable 5 to 10 mph."
This is the forecast for the Packers vs. 49ers game Sat. night.
The wind really does make a big difference in how cold you get. Try actually living the experience of 10° with no wind and 10° with 10 mph wind.
I avoid the sunrise run if the wind is 15 mph or more, whatever the temperature, because there is a danger of getting hit by a falling branch or tree.

Howard has a point, I say from South Florida, but honestly I don't come here to escape the cold as much as to stay in the lives of family and friends down here, short visits don't do the trick. They come to Vermont in the summer, too. I am thinking of heading up for some ice fishing in Feb.
Ann- I am glad to see that there is a point where sensibility kicks in. Unless it is just that Meade physically restrains you from leaving on these kind of mornings.
It is 24 degrees in McKinney, TX at 10:15 a.m. but with the 20 mph north wind, it feels like 10 degrees. I'll pass. 24 degrees with light or no wind is fine with me. I love running in tights, gloves, and toboggan. It's my favorite running wear. I'm going to the gym later for a little stairmill and either elliptical or the treadmill. I just did my first indoor rowing class at Row House yesterday morning. I've used the same type of rowing machine at the gym about ten times and it led me to this place. I hooked up on a monthly unlimited after this first visit. I'm trying to do more high intensity but low impact and rowing works well. It feels kind of violent, like kettlebell workouts do, and I enjoy that feeling. Tomorrow I do a 500m Benchmark which will be fun. When "split" is referred to in rowing, they are referring to the time it takes to row 500m. I learned this last week.

How many people get hit by falling branches in Madison every year? I may avoid the place all together.
For some reasons all these assholes who brag about no snow in the winter, never brag about 100 degree heat in the Summer or 80 degree 80 humidity days.
If its cold you can always go outside and walk and keep warm by wearing a coat. If its 100 degrees you're going to be hot if you go for a walk. Unless you take a Giant fan with you.
Went skiing last week at Lake Placid (Whiteface), and the coldest day was -20F on the mountain. A bit brisk to be sure, but it was a nice day nonetheless. Not much wind, so the chairlift was tolerable (but the gondola was better). So man up, as they say (sorry but 'person up' just doesn't work).
Rowing machines are great. It;s easy to bang out a nice 2K everyday for a general warmup while listening to a couple tunes. I try do do a 10K or so once or twice a week. I like the Frank Underwood WaterRower because it's quiet and the catch feels more like being in a boat.

I've never rowed in a boat. We use a Concept 2 RowErg. I like the class format. We mostly row in sync with music and with the instructor calling out cadence part of the time. That's helpful for me. Just signing up for a machine in advance goes a long way in insuring I show up and do the work. I'm fairly driven but I also like the encouragement and approval, and I don't like to cancel when others are involved. I'll also enjoy the competitive part of it when I figure out how it works. They are doing a marathon on Jan 29th. I'm looking forward to that type of thing in the future.
Working out with a group is a great way to maintain consistency.
