Even my quasi-TDS wife thinks the whole show has been a farce and waste of time, as embarrassing to the country as Trump himself. I have to count that as progress.
Yes, who aborted her and why? Scott Adams some time ago suggested that targeting unarmed females would serve to confuse some actors and enrage others. Men to be defensive of women and children, first. Suppression and incitement seem to the orders and strategy of this period.
Even my quasi-TDS wife thinks the whole show has been a farce... I have to count that as progress.
Yes, unqualified monotonic change: one step forward, two steps backward.
Baby steps
Indeed, but can they abort the baby, cannibalize her profitable parts, sequester her carbon pollutants, and have her, too? They're playing with a double-edged scalpel. The tell-tale hearts beat ever louder.
"The Democratic Party is entitled to field paramilitary forces, BLM and Antifa."
And they use them to destroy their own communities. There's got to be a point to it, but I sure don't get it. Maybe they own stock in lumber and paint companies?

Same as Hitler used his brownshirts. He would send them to opposition rallies to create an air of violence around them that good Germans deplored. The longer you resist the idea that they are using the Nazi playbook, the longer you will be puzzled by what they do.
There were 45 senators who voted this impeachment was unconstitutional. Now only 43 voted not guilty. So 2 senators voted both guilty and unconstitutional? How does that work?
Burr thought it was unconstitutional, but since the House voted for it, that made it constitutional and he thought Trump was guilty. I don't get that either. Cassidy changed his mind on constitutionality because he thought the House managers were more convincing than the defense team. He flip-flopped on constitutionality in the two earlier votes on the subject before finally voting to convict, so he's not in the same category as Burr. Cassidy is a doctor, not a lawyer, so legal and constitutional nuances aren't his thing. Collins voted against Trump on constitutionality and conviction, but she often manages to split her votes to keep both sides happy, or if not happy then equally unhappy.
Acquitted, also known as Not Guilty. Twice. Which establishes that the Democrats were engaged in craven political activity.
Whatever will they do now? Will they have to do actual legislative work? In one sense I am disappointed this farce has ended; while it proceeded it took up all their time and energy so they couldn't do anything else.
The 7 Rats of the Capitol. I'm sure Romney regrets I ever voted for him as much as I do. He thinks I'm scum and wouldn't want my vote; and I think he's aligned with Benedict Arnold in his hopes. The others? If we study their future careers, we'll find what you get these days for doing what they did. Probably we'll find that their kind of loyalty is minimum-wage labor.
"He would send them to opposition rallies to create an air of violence around them that good Germans deplored. The longer you resist the idea that they are using the Nazi playbook, the longer you will be puzzled by what they do."
I'm talking about the destruction they cause in their own Democratically controlled areas. How many opposition rallies were being held in Portland, Seattle or Madison?
With Trump gone, they are taking their show on the road!
British intelligence is central to the operations against China and Russia. RT has recently released a 2012 video which shows an associate of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny meeting with a top official at the UK embassy in Moscow and asking British intelligence to provide intelligence leads and $10-20 million per year to organize a color revolution and oust Putin.
If anyone here is mad at Republicans, the Dims have succeeded.
No, not Republicans, generally, some Republicans, specifically, with qualifiers. I realize to each a constellation of interests and priorities, and try to optimize correlations with my own. Be wary of anyone indulging diversity dogma. Most Republicans, including those who occasionally diverge, are still the best bet to conserve the American dream: Pro-Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness, and our quasi-religious "rule of law" under The Constitution.
"'m talking about the destruction they cause in their own Democratically controlled areas.”
You talk as if you think they care. They are in COMPLETE control of voting in those areas. Why didn’t Minnesota go red? Because the elections there are totally crooked.
The Democrats balked on witnesses because the Trump lawyers were going to call Pelosi and ask why she turned down Federal help on Jan. 6. The Capitol Police were under the control of Congress.
an associate of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny meeting with a top official at the UK embassy in Moscow and asking British intelligence to provide intelligence leads and $10-20 million per year to organize a color revolution and oust Putin.
50 shades of South Africa. That said, a progression from London to DC to Kiev to Moscow in the Gaddafi Differential. And we'll throw in an American ambassador... nay, President, some other deplorable Americans, and native collateral damage, too. The sequel to impeachment is enlightening.
I'm quite sure BLM and Antifa don't care. I'd think the people who live in those places and whose businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed might, however.
the Trump lawyers were going to call Pelosi and ask why she turned down Federal help on Jan. 6
From labels proffered at the House, to judgment on the Senate floor, court will convene with a trial by press, social media cancellations, steering engines to influence direction, and academic collusion to indoctrinate truth to facts.
"I'd think the people who live in those places and whose businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed might, however.”
Now you are talking as if you think that their votes matter. They obviously don’t. What part of this is a valid matching signature and therefore a valid vote don’t you get?

I pledge to exercise liberal license to indulge color judgments, not limited to racism, and uphold the Pro-Choice religion of the Progressive Church/Synagogue/Temple/Mosque/Office/Chamber/Clinic's diversity dogma that denies individual dignity, individual conscience, intrinsic value, and normalizes color blocs (e.g. color people "attribute" vs people of color "identity"), color quotas, and affirmative discrimination in a bid for progress: one step forward, two steps backward. Let us bray to the mortal gods and goddesses for secular lucre, climate stasis, and to relieve our "burdens". #InStorkTheyTrust
That said, diversity of individuals, minority of one. Men and women are equal in rights and complementary in Nature/nature. #HateLovesAbortion
Mitch of course votes to acquit before making a speech of course trump caused the riot and instigated the white nationalist rabble. Its all about POWER. Mitch knows his minority party(thanks to trump for losing Presidency, House and Senate)would not back him any, more and of course the $$$ would dry up. Nice try Mitch, see through as cellophane. In a bipartisan vote in New York they stripped Cuomo of his emergency powers. What's it mean? Remember this: in my city, Milwaukee, whose votes helped Biden win the electoral college (and sure they all were honorable votes) in my city, it's no vaccination, no schools and no policing for the inner-city Biden voters. It would not be that way had Trump won. God only knows what he would have done; he would not have left the unjust, horrible situation that is unfolding here up to Federal committees and commissions and State plans and phases and City political hacks and faceless, public health scientists and everyone else in sight who are all cowering like third graders before the Teachers Union.
Trump is guilty as hell. Guilty of what? I'm reminded of the old saw: If you have the Law, pound the Law. If you have the facts but not the Law, pound the facts. If you have neither, pound the table. Democrats have been pounding the table.
I gave up on what today passes for "conservatism" long ago. If Reagan wasn't "conservative"neither am I.
Reagan explicitly aligned himself with the fusionist conservatism developed by Bill Buckley and Frank Meyer at National Review in the 1950s. It combined economic libertarianism, traditionalist conservatism, and Cold War hawkishness. Reagan helped lay the foundation for our current globalized economy, specifically NAFTA and the WTO. He also supported deregulation of the financial industry. Trade liberalization and deregulation were also supported by Clinton, Gingrich, and George W. Bush. When Bush took office, we had free trade agreements with three countries. When he left, it was 16.
That kind of libertarian thinking on economics has its roots in the Austrian school thinking of Ludwig von Mises, Murray Rothbard, and Friedrich von Hayek. It is not conservative. It is a kind of radical individualism. Critiques of 19th century capitalism by conservative southern agrarians like John C. Calhoun predate and predict Marx.
In retrospect Reagan wasn't as good as he may have seemed at the time. A lot of support for Trump comes from people who didn't especially like Reagan (as well as those who did and those who weren't born at the time, though it was also true that much of the support for Reagan came from those who had supported Roosevelt, Truman or Johnson in earlier decades -- renegade Democrats as Reagan once was), but I wouldn't want to have lived through much more Seventies malaise. Reagan did a lot to fix the problems of his time: inflation, recession, Cold War, energy crisis. Now we have new problems (and some of the same ones) and some of the blame goes to people who were in power in the past (including Reagan), but it's always like that. If it's not one thing, it's another. That we manage to keep going in spite of it all and the leaky ship doesn't sink is something.
It’s interesting that if you read the statements of the Republicans who voted guilty, they were voting to convict him of something entirely different than what he was charged with. Nobody said he was trying to direct an insurrection and no evidence that he was was ever presented.
It just proves that the Republican Party has a death wish. I have no desire to stand in their way.
Arturo Ui said... A majority of U.S. Senators (57) voted to convict. Trump is guilty as hell.
For fun; I'm going to pretend that you're an actual human being, that can actually think
If someone (you? me?) has a criminal trial (let's say; for Seditious conspiracy)... And, "A majority of the jurors voted to convict"... Would you be "guilty as hell"? Now! you'll say something like: "Well, impeachments aren't criminal trials; so THEY don't NEED a unanimous vote to convict"
and, I'll say: "Right! They ONLY need 2/3rds.... What did Trump get???" and, You'll say: "Doesn't matter!!! Trump's guilty as hell!!!"
Cotton is a dumb hawk intent on involving the US in more endless, destructive conflicts around the world.
Did Cotton tell you this?
Yes. In the same exact way that Bush told me Afghanistan would fail and the Iraq War would blow up in his face and the way Obama told me that Libya would destabilize North Africa and cause a refugee crisis in the Mediterranean and that supporting Sunni jihadists in Syria would be a phenomenally stupid course of action.
Back in 2013, Tom Cotton and Mike Pompeo published The GOP should support Obama on Syria. In 2018, Cotton was a signatory to a letter opposing Trump's withdraw of US troops from Syria: "We write today to express our concern regarding your Administration’s consideration to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria. We believe that such action at this time is a premature and costly mistake that not only threatens the safety and security of the United States, but also emboldens ISIS, Bashar al Assad, Iran, and Russia."
So in Syria Tom Cotton is against ISIS, Assad, Iran, and Russia. He wants to arm and support the "moderate" forces within Syria. I guess before we give out the money and weapons, we request, "All moderates raise your hand."
"I watched the Illinois GOP fight internally for 20 years--and then it was gone. They can't even win elections in DuPage County."
The GOP fought internally when the never trumpers, including Lisa Murkey, Romney, and the Bush family all refuse to support Trump and put "Country above Party". And they did the same in 2020. In fact, the reason the Party is "divided" is because the RINO's refused to support the duly nominated, elected, and re-nominated Presidential candidate. Donald J. trump.
Somehow, I don't remember you - and people like you - being upset at a "party divided". Go talk to Mitch McConnell and the Septic Seven.
"They're high-fiving and bro-hugging each other on Instapundit. What's wrong with you people.”
Just the fact hat you are here needling us tells me that you know that this worked out great for the Democrats. Oh, the people who sincerely believed the nonsense the Democrats were dishing out are now upset, but realpolitik wise, this was a huge win for the Democrats.
George W Bush gave Hunter Biden his first bribe, by putting him on the board of Amtrak at 90k a year when he was a wet behind the ears college graduate.
The House Democrat Managers all broke into tears when they lost. Even the "Men". And I doubt there's one Democrat female or male who thinks badly of that. What a bunch of emo teenage girls. Truly Mitt Romney belongs to the wrong party.
This is not a "Great win" for the Democrats. Their victory occurred when McConnell and his bunch of morons decided this clown/farce impeachment of a former POTUS with its 2 hour impeachment debate was to be taken seriously. This should have been laughed out of court. And every single Republican voted against having it based SOLELY on constitutional grounds.
The very fact that we had this insanity trial was their "win". This is just an incomplete victory.
For fun; I'm going to pretend that you're an actual human being, that can actually think

"Antifa never stormed Congress and stopped the counting of votes.”
The investigation is ongoing as to who really did it. Many of the arrests have been known Ante-Fa. We should have a real criminal trial with all of the rights of the accused to gather evidence, and evidence offered under oath, not doctored videos and doctored tweets and second hand reports that the Democrats used.
Nancy Pelosi turned down Trump’s offer of National Guard which would certainly have prevented all of it. Why? Well in the end it all worked out great for her the way it went down, didn’t it?
Farmer muses: Now the task at hand is defining Trumpism in the post-Trump era. Nikki Haley is angling to be the Jeb! of 2024. Tom Cotton is good on immigration but is an anti-China nut. Josh Hawley and Ron DeSantis are also in the conversation.
But there will never be another fair election. The toothpaste is out of the tube. Cheating is much too easy and, if it's the Dems doing it, so is getting away with it.
Michael van der Veen, one of the lawyers who defended former President Donald Trump successfully in the Senate impeachment trial, said after the verdict Saturday that his family, home and law practice are “under siege” due to his representation of Mr. Trump.
“My home was attacked. I’d rather not go into it because it would encourage other people to do it more, but you know, I’ve had nearly 100 death threats,” he told reporters. “My home was attacked last night — windows broken, spray paint, really bad words spray-painted everywhere.”
Among the vandalism, someone spray-painted the word “traitor” on the driveway of his Philadelphia home. Washington Times

I agree. As a very discriminating person, with high standards, I wish everyone would "Up their game". Of course, I have no intention of increasing the quality of MY comments by posting better material. That's for others to do. So, to make it shorter: Meet my standards people.
Sorry if my previous comment came off as insensitive. But like the Democrat House Manager, I'm still in tears over the trump trial. Like Pajama Boy, he and I are very sensitive. And MANLY.
If you bother to read Milbank's hate filled screed, remember that he was the unbiased reporter who covered the White House during the Bush administration. He has been going mad for quite some time. You may remember that back in 2009, he wrote an entire column about then Minority whip Eric Cantor's sneer. It was the outer sign, Milbank said, of Cantor's snobby private school background. Guess where Milbank sent his kids? These are some very bad people.
You know, Biden won’t talk to Netanyahu, and Psaki wouldn’t name Israel as a close ally.
However you feel about Israel, this is weird and dangerous.
I hope this is an intentional snubbing. Netanyahu deserves to be taken down a notch after his outrageous conduct over the last several years. The US is a continental superpower. Israel is a client-state. Netanyahu should be worried about staying in our good graces, not the other way around. His speech to Congress attempting to derail a sitting president's diplomatic affairs was an insufferable act of political interference. Had the administration had any real guts, Ambassador Dermer would've been put on a plane back to Tel Aviv.

For the Democrats, it's back to Jew-hating as usual.
Once again proving my point that Republicans immediately turn woke social justice warrior on the topic of Israel. Anything less than total supine obsequiousness to Israel is "Jew-hating."
Once again proving my point that Republicans immediately turn woke social justice warrior on the topic of Israel. Anything less than total supine obsequiousness to Israel is "Jew-hating."
Since "supine obsequiousness" appears to be out of the question, how about we start with simply acknowledging:
A) Israel has the right to exist within defensible borders,
and
B) Israel faces an existential threat from Iran and its allies?
Yes, the shooting of Babbitt is just like JFK. Somehow, the obvious is WRONG. It must be the opposite of what it really is. She's not REALLY dead, she's just been buried and her family in mourning because its all FAKE! A CIA/FBI/Mafia plot. Who's to blame? Everyone EXCEPT those who did it!
'cause we're dumbshits and we believe it. Just like "we" believe JFK was killed by everyone EXCEPT Oswald - a communist. Because we don't want to believe a COMMUNIST killed JFK. It must be the CIA/FBI/Mafia/Nixon. And Babbitt isn't REALLY dead. Its all a CONSPIRACY. A CONSPIRACY of MORONS.
Can you ever make morons see the truth - when the establishment is telling them lies? Is IQ really a barrier to common sense? Can the so-called "smart boys" make enough DUMBOS think black is white and up is down?
Netanyahu deserves to be taken down a notch after his outrageous conduct over the last several years.
Bibi, Boris and Trump... all outrageous men fighting a war against the relentless attacks of the Left.
The US is a continental superpower. Israel is a client-state.
Really? Israel does not act independently of the United States, and frankly often in ways that upset the United States? I think the term strategic ally is much more accurate.
Netanyahu should be worried about staying in our good graces, not the other way around.
I actually agree with this.
His speech to Congress attempting to derail a sitting president's diplomatic affairs was an insufferable act of political interference.
As bad as what Obama and the Left did to him in Israel's elections? Obama directly attacked him and openly interfered in Israel's election.
Had the administration had any real guts, Ambassador Dermer would've been put on a plane back to Tel Aviv.
Yeah, that'll help the peace process! Let's make an enemy of a nation that considers us their greatest strategic and moral ally, and make friends with a nation that calls us the Great Satan and pledges to destroy our civilization and enslave our people.
Really? Israel does not act independently of the United States, and frankly often in ways that upset the United States? I think the term strategic ally is much more accurate.
Israel is not an ally of the United States. An ally is a state with which we have an agreement for mutual support in war. We have no such arrangement with Israel. Civilian settlements in the West Bank are of pretty limited strategic value to the US. Israel has power projection capabilities in the region, but so do Saudi Arabia and Turkey, we don't need a policy of "no daylight" with those countries to benefit from that arrangement.
Yeah, that'll help the peace process! Let's make an enemy of a nation that considers us their greatest strategic and moral ally, and make friends with a nation that calls us the Great Satan and pledges to destroy our civilization and enslave our people.
Friends? Countries aren't buddies with each other. They do business together because it's in their mutual interest to do so. Why do you think Iran has good relations with Russia, China, India, and Japan? Hint: those countries aren't trying to overthrow them.
Trump started the process where we're enjoying more peace in the Middle East.
But why not go ahead and derail that.
Let's face it; war is good for business.
Israel was never at war with Bahrain or the UAE. Trump's indulgence of MBS included increased support for the Saudi's cruel and destructive war in Yemen, a quagmire from which the Saudis are desperate to extricate themselves. We've also been caught in the middle of Saudi Arabia's hamhanded attempts at strong arming Qatar and Lebanon.
Let's sign a mutual military agreement with Iran and then nuke Tel Aviv.
Fuck those pesky Jews.
There's a reason you have to rely on sarcasm, strawman, and absurdity. You have strong opinions about a subject you know almost nothing about. You're just being a megaphone for somebody else's talking points.
Look at how countries like Japan or South Korea or India maintain relations in the region. Are they driven by irrational hatred of Jews?

And why?? She was unarmed, and was surrounded by other people including Capitol police. Why the secrecy?? Why don't we know the truth about the Capitol police officer who supposedly got hit with a fire extinguisher, but others deny?? Why the secrecy?? Are they covering something up?? And why are they blaming 2 suicides days later on Trump?? They added them to the count. Do we start counting suicides during the Pandemic and add them to Bidens Covid death count now??? Since we count deaths against the President and all.
Please stop asking me to form an opinion around your hallucination that someone "incited an insurrection." That only happened in your imagination and was created by the Fake News Industry. I don't form policy opinions around the hallucinations of strangers
"People need to put this fiasco behind them and turn the spotlight on Biden."
-- Which is exactly why Democrats are so desperate to keep the spotlight here. It was the reason behind the couple of minutes where they were pushing for witnesses before they realized that was a bad idea.

I think this demonstrates the power of propaganda, and the ‘don’t look at the man behind the curtain’ attitude of these representatives, tech companies, and the media.
There are people who believe that Trump, literally, created the destruction, that he killed every person who died from COVID, and enacted fascist polices to oppress minorities.
Iran is directly funding those wars.
Those wars would disappear overnight if Iran stopped funding them.
Eventually the Jew haters will out themselves. You are living in the Great Satan, J. Farmer. Get used to it.
Oh, spare me the melodrama. Your need to reduce this to character flaw and individual moral failing should tell you something. It's a dead end strategy and a roadblock to more constructive dialogue. You can't discuss your position in a rational way because you did not arrive at it in a rational way. It's an article of faith and as such is highly entangled with emotion. It's not enough that the other side be incorrect; they must be evil, too. It's Wokeism 101.
Those wars would disappear overnight if Iran stopped funding them.
You are lying to yourself about your motivations.
Saudi Arabia launched the war in 2015 with the intent to return Hadi to power. It was a rash, impetuous move by MBS that blew up in his face. Operation "Decisive Storm" lasted 4 weeks. Operation "Restoring Hope" is almost 6 years and counting. The UAE basically abandoned military operations back in 2019. The Saudis have been frantically looking for an escape hatch. Hadi remains on house arrest in Riyadh.
America will never have an effective Middle East strategy so long as we expect the Iranian regime to be overthrown or collapse. There's a reason every other country in the world can do business with Iran. It is foolish for us to insert ourselves into regional conflicts that often have little or nothing to do with us. A much smarter strategy would be cooperating with China and Russia on maintaining a balance of power arrangement in the region between Turkey, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

Everything on December 6th was staged to facilitate impeaching Trump.
This is out of the horses mouth.
These people are desperate.

What a farce. The Dems should be ashamed of their failures. They have made impeachment as un-severe as a censure, just more time consuming.
Thanks Laslo. Good to see her back.

Whatever will they do now? Will they have to do actual legislative work? In one sense I am disappointed this farce has ended; while it proceeded it took up all their time and energy so they couldn't do anything else.
Burr will probably get some nice $$$$$$$$$$$$$
'm still in shock.
Democrats FINALLY HAD THEIR MOMENT to take a shot at Trump. Call in witnesses. Show the world what he did on Jan 6 beyond what we know.
And they chose not to.

You know, Biden won’t talk to Netanyahu, and Psaki wouldn’t name Israel as a close ally.
However you feel about Israel, this is weird and dangerous.

They want us to live like serfs in yurts on groats.

50 shades of South Africa. That said, a progression from London to DC to Kiev to Moscow in the Gaddafi Differential. And we'll throw in an American ambassador... nay, President, some other deplorable Americans, and native collateral damage, too. The sequel to impeachment is enlightening.

I watched the Illinois GOP fight internally for 20 years--and then it was gone. They can't even win elections in DuPage County.
I assume there will now be some mostly peaceful riots over the decision.
Way too cold for that.
A majority of U.S. Senators (57) voted to convict. Trump is guilty as hell.
Guilty of being a continuting political threat.
Now can Joe get me and my family their token scraps from relief bill. Is Trump a “continuing political threat?”
His own party has invited the Dems to hound him to his grave with civil and criminal litigation.
Well, from one perspective, I thought this presidency went very well.
Trump is guilty as hell.
Guilty of what? I'm reminded of the old saw: If you have the Law, pound the Law. If you have the facts but not the Law, pound the facts. If you have neither, pound the table.
Democrats have been pounding the table.
@boatbuilder:
Thank you for that, Farmer. Reassures me.
As soon as someone threatened to have Pelosi have to admit that she turned down help from Trump, it was ovah.
But so is my relationship with the GOP

@Roughcoat:
Get This! The Cuomo Covid whistleblower has been appointed to Biden's staff!

Among the vandalism, someone spray-painted the word “traitor” on the driveway of his Philadelphia home. Washington Times

His speech to Congress attempting to derail a sitting president's diplomatic affairs was an insufferable act of political interference.
As bad as what Obama and the Left did to him in Israel's elections? Obama directly attacked him and openly interfered in Israel's election.

@Gahrie:

Israel was never at war with Bahrain or the UAE. There are people who believe that Trump, literally, created the destruction, that he killed every person who died from COVID, and enacted fascist polices to oppress minorities.

Iran is directly funding those wars.
Those wars would disappear overnight if Iran stopped funding them.
You are lying to yourself about your motivations.

The Middle East gives some people emotion sickness.
