"Kyle Rittenhouse was released from jail in Wisconsin on Friday afternoon after his attorneys posted $2 million bail..."

"... setting the teenager free as he awaits trial for fatally shooting two men and wounding a third during summer protests in Kenosha, police said. His release came over the objections of family members and lawyers for two of the men he shot. They had asked for higher bail and voiced concerns Rittenhouse would flee, which his lawyers have said he would not. The 17-year-old’s release was funded by donations sought by his attorneys, who appealed to the political right, where Rittenhouse is popular. Those lawyers also are seeking to overturn Democratic President-elect Joe Biden’s victory."

That said, what I would want to know is if the article mentions the criminal records of the victims and what they were doing at the time of being shot?

who appealed to the political right, where Rittenhouse is popular

Yeah, the political right tends to favor the kind of person who killed someone who served prison time for raping 5 preteen boys. He served 14 years, so those boys are likely adults now. Can't blame them for not being public, but imagine the optics if they could have been sitting at the bail hearing.

Kenosha: Joseph ‘JoJo’ Rosenbaum and the Problem of White Trash America

Joseph Rosenbaum — depressed, homeless and alone . . . had spent most of his adult life in prison for sexual conduct with children when he was 18 and struggled with bipolar disorder. That day, Aug. 25, Rosenbaum was discharged from a Milwaukee hospital following his second suicide attempt in as many months and dumped on the streets of Kenosha. . . .
Hours after he was released from the hospital, Rosenbaum stopped by a pharmacy in Kenosha to pick up medication for his bipolar disorder, only to discover that it had closed early because of the unrest.
He visited his fiancee, who was living in a cheap motel room, but she told him he couldn’t stay the night. She had pressed charges against him a month earlier after a fight in which he knocked her down and bloodied her mouth. If Rosenbaum violated his no-contact order, she warned, he could be sent back to jail. . . .
The weeks leading up to Rosenbaum’s death had been as chaotic as his life. Raised in Texas and Arizona, Rosenbaum met his father only twice and told his mother that he was molested by his alcoholic stepfather “on an almost daily basis,” according to court documents.
When he was 13 his mother was sent to prison for two years, and Rosenbaum was sent off to a group home, where he began using heroin and methamphetamine, according to court documents. By 18, he was in prison for sexual conduct with five preteen boys, the children of people who had taken him in after his mother told him to leave her house, according to a presentencing report. He spent most of the next 14 years behind bars.
Not long after he was released in 2016, he met a woman in Arizona and fathered a child, but the relationship didn’t last. When the woman fled to Kenosha, Rosenbaum chased her. . . .
[In December 2019] he and his new fiancee, whom he met in a Wisconsin hospital, were braving the winter in a tent they had pitched in an overgrown lot behind an abandoned department store. . . .
They spent their days at nearby fast-food restaurants where the staff sometimes gave them free meals. At night Rosenbaum, his fiancee and her cat huddled under piles of blankets. “We lived off of each other’s body heat,” she said.
In the spring, the police confiscated their tent, so they slept for a while behind dumpsters in town. Eventually, the county’s social services department helped them get a room at a cut-rate motel . . .
Aside from one supervised visit, he never saw the child for whom he had moved to Kenosha. In June, he attempted suicide by overdosing on pills. A month later, his fiancee confronted him after finding pornography on his phone. Rosenbaum body-slammed her, according to police, who took him to jail and then released him.
One week later, Rosenbaum called a suicide crisis line. Police found him vomiting and having convulsions outside a McDonald’s. He spent a few days in the hospital followed by a few more days in jail for violating the no-contact order with his former girlfriend. Then he was sent for more treatment to the mental hospital in Milwaukee.
Two hours before he was killed, Rosenbaum left his fiancee’s motel room and caught a bus for downtown, where a second night of protests had erupted.

I imagine Rittenhouse had a better time in jail than most "criminals," considering what he was in for. Still, ours is a creaky, maybe broken justice system, that jailed him for weeks for one of the better documented displays of self-defense that we've all seen, while rioters and looters walked free or stayed jailed barely long enough for a nap.

IF there are any lawyers who read these comments, I have a few questions maybe you could answer:
Is bail supposed to be punitive, rather than just a means to ensure the defendant doesn't flee?
Is there any reason to believe this defendant would flee if released on his own recognizance while awaiting trial?
Is there any reason to believe that, if this defendant was inclined to flee, losing $2 million of other people's money would stop him?
Will this case be tried in front of a different judge than the one who set the bail amount?
If the answers to all the above questions are no, how can the defendant expect a fair trial in front of this judge?

bagoh20 said...

The important thing is this:

"Antifa associated goons who carried out an unprovoked attack on him..."

While armed and aiming a handgun, and using improvised items as clubs chasing Kyle as he ran away before ever resorting to using his rifle as a last resort. Who would let that crazed mob of felons just beat them to death when they could stop it?

He also immediately tried to surrender to cops and then turned himself in. That does not sound like a flight risk. The bail is punitive and unjustified for an obvious self defense.

bagoh20 said...

The hardest thing for me to understand is why the Left and the Right get two different systems of justice in this country.

Where is the guy who fired a handgun at Kyle and tried to kill him while chasing him down and yelling racist slurs?

Where are the charges against people on video breaking election laws - actually filling in ballots one after another on clear security video?

Why are people like Hillary and Comey free when we know with certainty they committed high level serious felonies against the entire country. Not even charges. Yet General Flynn was pursued and ruined over nothing.

How did we get here and why does it persist? I'm asking seriously for an answer. I don't understand this.

Thank you Iowan2, tcrosse, and tommyesq for the thoughtful responses to Mark. At least one of the people shot confessed to intending to kill Rittenhouse. Another is seen on video threatening to harm another person that he then mistakes Rittenhouse as being. Both of those people had criminal records that suggest a history of violent crime, meaning they were likely to carry out their threat of harm. That's two compelling arguments for self-defense. Bumble Bee makes another compelling argument. I've got nothing from Mark but conjecture and deflection to unrelated topics.

Anonymous said...

The kid was being chased by people with at least one gun.

Two guns for sure, and probably more. The timeline tape his lawyers released show pretty clearly that Kyle didn’t shoot until the tall bearded hippie guy had taken a shot at him with his revolver. Kyle’s back was turned so he didn’t know which member of the antifa mob was trying to kill him. Under the reasonable-man standard, I think he would have been justified in shooting anyone in the mob, or even everyone in the mob, and I wish he had. But the next thing he knows, the bald angry-elf pedophile had a hand on his rifle, at which point he is legally considered in possession of the weapon and even more of a slam-dunk legitimate target of armed self-defense. Good riddance.

Kyle is going to walk, and when he does, we need to make him rich and famous for giving Antifa exactly what they’ve been asking for. He showed more bravery and good weapons discipline than many a sworn law enforcement officer.

The other thing we need to do is to prosecute the DA and see if we can’t get him five or ten years in Federal prison for official oppression under color of law for daring even to file these ridiculous tyrannical charges. At the very least we can try to strip him of his house, his pension, and his law license. We have to start following Alinsky’s rules and ruining the lives of individual leftists. They hurt a lot sooner than institutions.

The video coverage of the events in question is pretty complete. You can see criminal #1 firing into the air. You can see Rittenhouse being pursued by multiple older men, rioters with violent intent. You can see him react to the (illegal) shot, thinking that he was the target as the multiple male rioters were chasing him. You can see victim #1 get it, and victim #2 getting it as well, as he attempts to strip away Rittenhouse's weapon after Rittenhouse was distracted by being hit by another criminal with a skateboard. There isn't much doubt about what happened, compared to other similar targeting crimes involving a victim's self-defense in the face of multiple attackers. The video record is exceptional. The prosecutor's track record is also in alignment with his past professional efforts. He has no qualms going after people who make good victims for his political portfolio. You get what you elect. If people from Kenosha like seeing Main Street burn, like seeing mayhem in the streets and businesses demolished by outsiders, like seeing their upstanding neighbors prosecuted for defending against these things, then they're on the right track. Keep voting, folks.

I am not so sure about that. Kenosha is a small city of 100,000 (more on the geography later).

The first night of the riot caught the city off guard, and the situation spun out of control real quick (all the fires). The second night, thanks to our dickless governor Evers, there was no National Guard presence, so it was up to local law enforcement agencies and people like Rittenhouse to establish some semblance of control.

As to the geography (for future reference), Kenosha courthouse is over 6 miles from the Interstate, via surface streets. To the east is Lake Michigan. To the north about 3+ miles out takes you into the Village of Somers - mixture of suburban homes & farm fields. To the south 3+ miles takes you to the Village of Pleasant Prairie. Also a mixture of suburban homes & farm fields. Kenosha County was 51% Trump, Village of Somers 4/5 wards were Trump, Village of Pleasant Prairie wards were 5/5 for Trump. Those villages are also accessible by surface streets only. No freeways (other than I94) to jump on to make a quick getaway. So, any trouble makers coming into Kenosha will be easily cut off from I94. Fleeing into the Villages they will likely encounter armed citizens - this would be the land of tall pickup trucks with flags. They will be ready.

In September, local law enforcement was presented with the opportunity to do a test run. A peaceful protest was going to happen at the Kenosha Courthouse. Credible information was received that there was a group of cars with blacked out license plates on I94 moving in a caravan like manner. There was a multijurisdictional response, a perimeter was established closing off traffic downtown, and the protest was indeed peaceful. Some police scanner chaser live streamed the response on Facebook. From what I can see at the end of this video, law enforcement officers outnumbered protesters.

Understand, this is a show trial, and it's working exactly as planned. Kyle may eventually be freed, but who wants to go through what he is being put through, just to defend their neighbors' property? And exactly how many times are we going to raise two million dollars bail to free the victims of the Soros Machine? It appears that the professional city-government scum, graduates of "Public Administration" programs at shithole universities, have taken over most cities of any size, and are using tax funds to attract and maintain a rabble of parasites who can be counted on to riot on any pretext or none, and to re-elect the scum and their Soros prosecutors. 70 years ago, a media that was every bit as biased as the one we have today (just better at masking it) convinced the country that "McCarthyism", that is, the hiring and firing based on political views, was the worst thing that happened ever.

Then the communist infiltrators that McCarthy was trying to stop (but failed due to the Stalinist media show trials he was subjected to) spent the next 70 years hiring and firing based on political views, until they held 90-100% control of every institution, and no one noticed or cared.

Everything we are seeing today is the inevitable end result of what was uncovered, but not even slowed down, then.

Qwinn said...

I will add that, when only employed by one side, the tactic of firing and hiring based on politics is an unbeatable tactic. It will result in 100% political control of the targeted institution 100% of the time within a single generation (and they've been doing it for over 3). Once successful, it doesn't matter if the other side does it too, the takeover cannot be reversed.

The only possible fix is to completely disband each institution, recreate it, explicitly ban anyone in the old institution from being hired in the new one, and explicitly bar hiring anyone from the political ideology that has overwhelmingly proven it cannot be trusted not to do the same to everyone else. Forever.

Jupiter said...

By the way, although we raised two million to bail Kyle out, Dominick Black, Kyle's 19-year-old friend, who bought the rifle and held it for Kyle, has also been charged. You can donate to his defense here.

They might agree to a plea bargain, but they're not going to drop any charges. They are cynical vermin with a political objective. Trans/homosexual, tolerable. Trans/homosexual rape... rape-rapist and pedophile. Wow, I did not know. Who let him out of prison. This is the Boy Scouts encounter with political congruence, liberalized, and progressive.

That said, the political right is libertarian. The political center is conservative: Pro-Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Do you think he'll be acquitted?

I say he has a good shot at it...

It’s an outrageous injustice he was even charged

Sorry Kevin. He would have been released on his own recognizance.”

Sorry, Danno. He would not have been charged.

Anthony Huber’s father, John Huber, attended the hearing earlier this month and suggested a bail amount as high as $10 million. He called Rittenhouse’s self-defense argument “impossible” and described his son as a “hero” who tried to stop the teen.

I would say to John Huber that if he had raised his son to respect other people, and not to commit arson, then the son still be alive. But John Huber failed as a father and now his son is dead. Pity.

Yes, let's start publishing the criminal background of every murder victim, Leland.

No, dumbshit Mark, we should always publish the criminal records or every person harmed while violently resisting arrest, or where the defendant is claiming self defense

Because in those cases it's an important element for analyzing the "crime"

Also, any time the family / victim claims that the "victim" is a wonderful human being, that person's criminal record, or lack thereof, becomes important to the story

Which means in either case, only a lying sack of shit hack would hide that information

The system grinds on. Wake me up at the verdict.

You can go back to sleep, Howard. The verdict is "not guilty on all charges", with the jury gathering afterwards to thank Kyle for a job well done

Frankly surprised it took this long. I am of the belief he will not spend another day in the pokey.

It's going to depend on where the trial is held.

Traditionally bail is for amount of flight risk, plus amount of perceived danger to the community
No

Understand, this is a show trial, and it's working exactly as planned. Kyle may eventually be freed, but who wants to go through what he is being put through, just to defend their neighbors' property?

Kyle voluntarily turned himself in to the cops.

I fBiden becomes President, the response to this is going to be to simply shoot the BLM / Antifa people from ambush, then disappear

No muss, no fuss

We already do. When there is a claim of self-defense, a defendant is entitled to introduce evidence at trial as to the victim's violent propensities. Criminal convictions for violent acts are especially relevant.

Where are the $0 bail/decarceration folks?
