"I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life."

"We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!"

Tweeted Trump a few minutes ago.

AND: Look what that means. Apart from the news item — he feels good and is about to leave the hospital — we can see the beginning of his new framing of the covid issue: Fear not! Don't let it run your life! We have great treatments, great medical personnel! It's the new-old Trump optimism. He's still advocating getting out and living your life. He's been through the illness and what he's learned is, it's not so bad. I'm sure his opponents will pounce with recitations of the number who have died — 215,000!! They'll take the side of closing up, locking down, hiding your face, waiting and waiting to get back to life. They may be right, but maybe people will vote for what they want: Freedom! Back to normal! Don't be afraid!

We still have to wait and see if he really is wellish but I was struck by the news coverage of Trump's illness. I went searching around for a news source to follow developments and kind of came up empty. I settled on Breitbart, which I barely know exists except as a target of derision by the left. I have to say, Breitbart looks like they played it straight, providing news that seems to have adhered to actual events. I also went to CNN, something else I rarely do, and I have to say, CNN's coverage was embarrassing.

I am with Trump on this one. There is a huge philosophical divide in this country between those who are cowed by fear of the virus and want to stop it at all costs and those who realize that we need to get on with our lives and stop the devastation that the fear has caused. I don't know if it will help Trump get reelected but I don't think this will hurt him either.

Glad he's feeling better. I do believe that the dangers of Sars-Cov-2 have been totally exaggerated by quacks and hacks and scaredy cats.

But, I do believe that the vulnerable (over 70 or over-weight or other ailments, like diabetes, should take extra precautions). So, it's good that DJT went to Walter Reed to check it out.

And, I'm such a nice guy, I would hope for the same outcome for Joe Biden, if he tests positive. And, since he ain't fat, he's probably less at risk.

A gentle reminder -- UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had it months ago, was hospitalized for it, and then we learned he didn't have it. Lotta shifty ground, here. But, most importantly, glad Boris is doing fine.

Do face diapers work? No.

To have even a chance of a mask working partially effectively, you have to have one made of the right material, you have to wear it properly, you have to change it/disinfect it every few hours of use, and you have to stop touching and adjusting the fucking thing. There is probably far better results garnered with just constant handwashing. The only real way to avoid being exposed to COVID-19 is just isolate yourself from every other human being until an effective vaccine is released, which might well be never. This virus is all but certain to be with us from now on in one mutation or another. Deal with it.

Megthered said...

Of those 215,000 how many really died of Covid? Most were elderly, debilitated nursing home patients or people who had comorbidity and complex disease processes already. That brings the number down significantly. Maybe people who are relatively healthy will realize it's not the Black Deaath and stop wearing the face diapers and start living their lives again.

On the contrary my impression is that Remdesivir at least is widely available now.

As for Herman Cain, he was one of the majority of that 215,000 that had co-morbidities. A substantial number of them would have died with or without COVID, if not when they did, not long after. Every death is unfortunate, but most are inevitable, something the left at least pretends not to understand in their quest to defeat Trump.

Yes, absolutely appalling.

The problem with COVID, as one of my dental clients put it, is that those that it affects, it kills. Most people, seemingly even the large majority of elderly, seem to get through it with little lasting damage. But, for that group that for now unknown reasons are susceptible to its ravages, it's devastating. The question is -- what group are you & yours in? How do you find out except the hard way? But -- what do we do? Shut down society, which brings its own form of devastation (e.g. ya checked the suicide and reports of family abuse rate lately) in defense of what seems to be a small group of the vulnerable?

I sure as hell don't know the answer, but I also don't fault Trump for picking a side and going with it either.

The dems once rallied around “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. That optimism was prevalent in America for decades. In his own (typically) poorly stated way, that’s I think what Trump is getting at. But so much of culture today has devolved into fearing any and all risk. Kids can’t be left unsupervised, no one is safe if there is a firearm anywhere, the world will burst into flames in 15 years if I drive a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, we can’t go outside until there’s 0 chance of anyone catching the Vid. The question is, are there enough voters who are still moved by the idea that fear is the real enemy, or have the left succeeded in making America into a risk-averse land of fear?

Every day patients decline from "COVID safe" to "COVID vulnerable"--heart condition just a little bit worse; blood sugar situation just a little bit worse; etc. Many patients who would survive if they got sick today, will die if they get sick a year from now.

Instead of taking the prescribed amount over the 3 days immediately after my chemo, I spread it out over the following week. For me the week after chemo was usually horrible. During that week I saw Hamilton and attended two concerts that I was looking forward to all scheduled long before my cancer diagnosis. Death comes for us all. That doesn't mean we should court it foolishly, but the fact is that in a normal year something like 7,500 Americans die every day. Many of them are quite old, many are in terrible shape, and a smaller number are young and appear perfectly healthy before something horrible (disease or injury) befalls them.

It's sad, but it's life.

I will bet you that by the end of the year, the excess mortality--number of people dying each day or week compared to the average of recent years--which spiked in late Spring but now has come way down, will dip into the negative range. We will see that the grim reaper simply came a few months early for many people.

Also sad, but also life.

We could have kept the number of dead lower if our "public health officials" had been smarter and more strategic- recognizing the truly vulnerable and protected them instead of acting like everyone had the same risk. This is a good question, and I don't think its anywhere near 215,000. In Colorado, attending physicians at nursing homes reported that they were pressured to call all deaths there 'covid' deaths - even when they were clearly from other causes. And we had one man in a traffic accident and another of alcohol poisoning classified as 'covid' deaths because they tested positive at their autopsies.

Will they ever confess the truth? Probably not.

You are completely misunderstanding that. Once your body and the therapies completely fight off the virus—the virus is killed, and you are no longer a carrier or spreader. Boris Johnson testing negative for COVID after his release from the hospital does not mean he never had COVID. It’s quite possible a blood test would show that he had developed the antibodies for COVID which would prove he had it.

Look for that. ( I do not think there is a source in the world declaring that Boris never had SARS-COV-2, not even Boris himself.)

I agree with the President. I was so stressed out by the media hype the first few weeks beginning in mid-March it was effecting my physical health. I finally did some research on my own and found that although I'm over 60, I'm not at great risk of suffering overly much if I did get the virus. Chances of getting it at all were also low since I live in the country and have very little close contact with those that are not family. And, although my job involved interacting with others, it also did not involve close contact.

I finally decided to have a positive attitude and not be afraid. That was the best choice to make for me.

From what I understand, this is the first time in history we have locked down the healthy people during a pandemic. In the past, we quarantined the sick and the others went about their way. That is what we should have done this time. Simply quarantined the sick and and advised those that were at most risk to stay in low-contact environments, and then cautioned everyone to wash their hands and use other simple precautions. Locking people in their homes and bankrupting businesses was a bad idea.

Cain was diagnosed in 2006 with stage 4 colon cancer that metastasized to his liver and was given a 30 percent chance of survival. He passed away 14 years later WITH Covid 19 not FROM Covid 19, happy to be given those extra years he was not expecting, and those that bring his name up in order to criticize people who attend Trump events are being disingenuous. Cain was a big Trump supporter and therefore people use his death to try to criticize both Cain and Trump.

Now look at the daily death graph (I'd encourage you to click the rolling 7 day average button to smooth things out). The deaths for this much large case peak is about 1/10th size of the daily deaths at their peak in April.

These are the survival rates for the disease per the CDC as of the latest numbers i could find (Sept 24th).

0-19 99.997%
20-49 99.98%
50-69 99.5%
70+ 94.6%

Yet every lefty I know thinks that the disease is a death sentence. To be fair, they also believe that the Earth warming 2 degrees in the next 100 years is a death sentence. As was population growth, nuclear war, bumble bees dying, GMO's and a host of other things over the years.

Keep in mind, the above mortality numbers are for those confirmed to have contracted the disease.

Yet they think that Biden is being perfectly rational hiding in his basement, and metaphorically do the same.

They are folowing the science. blindingly unaware of what the real risk is. And what the science is really telling us.

Trump was not the benefactor of singularly extraordinary medical care. 94.6% of his cohort would likely also have survived in hospitals anywhere, or even by simply staying home and waiting for the disease to pass, as my wife was advised.

Follow the science, act rationally, and be not paralyzed by fear.

215,000 people did not die from Covid! That is the big lie. The number has been a lie since the beginning, and it has not been the CDC lying about it. They have admitted all along that it was deaths from almost anything, but with a Covid positive test, or sometimes just a suspicion and no test. The only deaths left out were obvious traumas, some of which even got counted. The incentives, both political and monetary caused this. It was incredibly unscientific and dishonest.

The number of deaths with a positive test is practically a useless number. You can't get anything valuable from that number other than money and power over people. It has done that job of deception, fear, and corruption very well.

It is impossible not to notice that the media immediately attacks any and all therapies and medications that provide either palliative and healing potential.

There is certainly a reason for that: they need a maximum crisis atmosphere with fear seeping into every corner so that they can bounce on in with their Big Government "solutions" that will "keep you safe"...which in reality alters the fundamental relationship American citizens have with their government.

He was leaning forward and coughing just to get air. Stayed in that position for about 20 minutes. Raw and rough. Cough after cough. Awful gurgling sound.

Then I listened for a while, and amidst the beeps and circulating air, I heard down many hacking coughs.

I have never heard leukemia described as "cancer of the immune system."

Most of the time the immune system is about immunity, that is fighting invaders like bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi. But part of the immune system makes the red blood cells, which have nothing to do with immunity.

Thus we could legitimately say that leukemia is always about the immune system, but more likely there is a distinction being made between white blood cell leukemias and red blood cell leukemias. There are many different kinds of leukemia. Almost every different kind of white blood cell has its own leukemia. That is a cancer where only that particular immune cell type is affected.

215,000 people have died from Covid-19, the flu, and pneumonia combined in 2020.

Why do you think they are combining all 3 of these causes of death in their media reports?

Somehow the red Covid line tracks up to account for almost all of the deaths in 2020.

And the 2018 flu season had more total deaths than the 2020 flu season.

This is all bullshit.

Of course I'm glad and relieved he's gotten the best treatment possible, but I know I wouldn't be getting the same.”

Trump gets the same care that the House and Senate and USSC members get, it’s good to be king. Biden had his brain surgery, twice, at Walter Reed, so he gets the best too. Biden said the nurses “breathed oxygen into his nostrils”. You and I aren’t going to get that! He must have gotten some good drugs.

Howard: "Hi Inga!

These people are drinking Kool-Aid from a fire hose. Next they will break into St. Vitus dance... unexpectedly"

Howard, did we ever get a body count from that combined chemical weapons/nerve agent attack executed by Trump against those innocent mothers who were simply breast feeding their babies while singing songs from the Sound Of Music?

Given your histrionics it had to be in the tens of thousands.
