Jersey Fled said...: Wife and I cast our votes for Trump today. We are pretty much required to cast our votes by "mail" this year, as machine votes will be treated as provisional, which means they will be counted last or, more likely, not counted at all. The process of filling out the ballot was pretty straightforward, although it must be followed precisely or the ballot might be disqualified. I can see some problems in that regard. We dropped our ballots off at our municipal building as we don't trust the USPS.

I was prepared to be highly skeptical of this method of voting, but have to say that it wasn't too bad.

Still, the question of vote harvesting scares me. We received a ballot for our daughter, who hasn't been living here with us for more than ten years, and is now registered elsewhere in the state under her married name. The only safeguard against our filling it out and posting it is the fact that it needs a signature. Not everyone will run ballots like this through the shredder, as we did.

Feeling more optimistic about a Trump win based on some analysis I've read lately on just how slanted the public polling has been in favor of Biden. Maybe I'll post something on that subject later.; 10/10/20, 7:39 PM

China has more than enough to make a blockade effective. That will on its own end Taiwanese trade. Taiwan cannot guarantee safe passage against what is already overwhelming naval and air power (for this purpose anyway), and left to its own resources will have to surrender, within months probably.

This leaves the US. The US is the only power that can organize and defend convoys to Taiwan. Imperfectly; there are certainly going to be casualties. Any merchant ships and crews will have to sail under US guaranteed wartime liability and compensation. The situation will be akin to WWII British convoys to Malta. But that means a US act of war against a very dangerous nuclear power.

When such a USN protected convoy approaches the Chinese interdiction zone, who will blink?
