"Steve Jobs would not be happy that his wife is wasting money he left her on a failing Radical Left Magazine that is run by a con man (Goldberg) and spews FAKE NEWS & HATE."

Tweeted Donald Trump, quoted in "Trump attacks the sixth-richest woman in the world for her ties to The Atlantic" (CNN).

I only read that because the headline was so odd — "the sixth-richest woman." Is that supposed to make him seem more sexist than calling her Steve Jobs's widow?

Scott Adams said the same thing. New energy source: hooking up a battery to Steve Job's frantic spinning in his grave over his widow blowing his money on this absurd crap.

I saw a photo of Laurene Jobs the other day and she is doing one of my pettiest of pet peeves: trying to have cheerleader hair as a middle aged woman. Not dignified.

She met and married Jobs after he made his money. She was an alternative medicine enthusiast and may well be the one who convinced him to attempt to treat his curable (Islet cell) cancer of the pancreas with herbs and non conventional methods. He belatedly had surgery but too late. She killed him.

Donald Trump is a guy who knows people and has been places. His critique, as with most of his critiques, has the ring of authenticity, as it might not, coming from, say, George Bush.

He probably knew Steve Jobs, probably saw the side of him that was careful with his hard-earned money. A pair of nonconventional thinkers. The Jobs-Trump comparison has been made before:

Steve Jobs gave us President Trump - The Washington Post
Steve Jobs and Donald Trump from www.washingtonpost.com
Sep 5, 2017 · Donald Trump captured the Republican ballot line even though he had no appreciable connection to the Republican Party. Nothing like it had ever ...

Meanwhile now the nattering nabobs are turning this into, Trump encourages harassment of Jobs's widow. Because the truth, is never, never enough for them.

Of course, it is fake news. Ann’s previous post indicates why Trump is right there. Trump, again, calls a spade a spade. Interestingly, his people are starting to follow his lead - esp Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Amb. (and former acting DNI) Richard “Ric” Grenell. Love that she comes into her press conferences with binders that lay out the fake news and lies that the MSM attacking Trump there have spewed.

But no one does it as well as Trump himself. Nothing he said was false. Jobs’ widow did use the money she inherited from her former husband to buy the Atlantic as a vanity project. It is losing money. And the story was fake news - with no actual corroboration, just the same third hand stories heard by multiple people from the same people, stories that were refuted by the people who were actually there, including Amb. Bolton, far from a Trump fan these days. The Atlantic tried to do their part in turning Trump out of the White House, with this story, but ended up looking both incompetent and vile at the same time. Bring a knife to a gunfight with Trump, and expect to be ventilated, if your first strike isn’t fatal.

As Lincoln said of Grant: "I can't spare this man, he fights!"

They couldn't put "Steve Job's Widow" in the headline because "Jobs" might remind their readers of the excellent Jobs report. They couldn't use "widow" because it might be a reminder she married that money. Trump fixed that for them.

Laurene Jobs was photgraphed recently on her $110 Million yacht that was floating around in the Mediterranean. Whatever money she pisses away on The Atlantic, she can't even be noticing that. And the money he left her? Please. Park that antediluvian, patriarchal view of modern marriage, President Trump and join the 21st century.

In just about any way you choose to measure Steve Jobs, he was a sigma (and sometimes two) off the norm. No one could possibly know what would or would not make him happy about what his wife is doing with the money he earned.

But, yes, his wife is a dingbat.

Can’t criticize Obama either. He’s black. It’s almost as if being anything other than a white male disqualifies you for the job of POTUS, which comes with heavy criticism no matter what you do. It’s part of the job. I think that Obama was better at taking criticism, BTW, than his supporters and water carriers in the media. Hillery (love that spelling), not so much.

Lol. Trump just has a gift... he reduces Mrs. Jobs to a trust fund baby. He also speaks for a dead man who cannot respond. And he forces Apple into the awkward position of having strayed from its genius founder’s vision. This extends to all of tech, the pretend Libertarian guardians of the gates.

It really doesn't interest me what Steve would have thought of what his wife was doing with his money, and I knew him for a short while 40 some years ago. What does fascinate me enormously is how these great heirs, Pritzkers, Walton's, now Jobs, (and others on the past) have no idea what do do with that money except spend it and think their view on anything matters.

I think they are not accepted as equals by modern wealthy who are in the process of earning and building their own wealth, so they find acceptance among people who prey on their sense of guilt over having such great sums. Without that, those people would have nothing to do with them for they offer nothing else that is valued.

It needs to be seen in the light of who pays for sex and who gets paid for it. Trump has the payer chromosomes. I worked and saved for my money, but I wish men had the same additional option to wealth as a beautiful woman. I could do that. Give a rich woman everything non-financial that she wants and become a billionaire. As long I had that marriage thing in the bag, I wouldn't even mind her cheating. I might even encourage it, and encourage a divorce as well, so I could essentially retire from my "job" rich and free. "That's storybook, man".

Yes, Trump is punching up. I don't think the headline writers understand the mistake they made with "6th richest woman in the world". That won't buy Biden any votes at all, but it will buy Trump some.

If I recall she is kind of MILF-fy. But, like many women who have or crave power (cough, Hillary), she did nothing to earn it other than marrying a brilliant man.

Same with Jobs. People throw the term 'genius' around but he actually was one. He built products that changed the entire planet.

Jobs should have left his money to the local cat shelter...it would have done more good.

I asked about the other 9 women on the list. Here they are in wealth order:

Alice Walton
Julia Koch
Mackenzie Bezos
Jacqueline Mars
Laurene Powell Jobs
Abigail Johnson
Christy Walton
Ann Walton Kroenke
Blair Parry-Okeden
Nancy Walton Laurie

In several respects, the 10 richest women in America are not a very diverse group. They are all white, they all inherited the bulk of their fortunes, and they are all over the age of 40. The majority do not currently take an active role in the management of the companies from which their wealth is derived, with the exception of Abigail Johnson.

Pretty much what I suspected. I am not sure about McKenzie Bezos, though. She was, I understand, instrumental in the founding and growth of Amazon. For that, she should get some credit for creating her wealth. Not all, of course, being married to Jeff Bezos was a big help.

And Abigail Johnson. She inherited her wealth but, since she also runs the company she inherited, it would be interesting to know how she has done growing the wealth. Was she a Kennedy, making a small fortune after starting with a large one? Or a Trump, making a large fortune after starting with a small one?

Fortunes run from $54B for Ann Walton to 7B for Nancy Walton.

In October 1989, Steve Jobs gave a "View from the Top" lecture at Stanford Business School. Laurene Powell was a new MBA student and sneaked to the front of the lecture and started up a conversation with Jobs, who was seated next to her. They ended up having dinner together that night.[12] A year and a half later, on March 18, 1991, they married in a ceremony at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park.[13] Presiding over the wedding was Kōbun Chino Otogawa, a Zen Buddhist monk.[13][14] Their son, Reed, was born in September 1991, followed by daughters Erin in 1995 and Eve in 1998. Laurene is also the stepmother of Lisa Brennan-Jobs, Steve's daughter from a previous relationship, who was born in 1978.

Powell Jobs co-founded Terravera, a natural foods company that sold to retailers throughout Northern California.[4][5] She also served on the board of directors of Achieva, which created online tools to help students study more effectively at standardized testing.[5] Before business school, Powell Jobs worked for Merrill Lynch Asset Management and spent three years at Goldman Sachs as a fixed-income trading strategist

If you inherit your money from a dead spouse, parent, or any other family member, no thinks you are some sort of esteemed person. No one thinks, oh Steve Job's widow, what an amazing person. Same goes for Jeff Bezos' ex-wife, or the Walton children. Think of the general opinion of Paris Hilton. And then realize that she is a person who actually tried to do something and make something more than just being a rich scion.

I can see Job's attraction to her. She is attractive and as a UPenn and Stanford graduate obviously not dumb. The Atlantic is pocket money to her. A plaything that makes her feels she is making a social contribution. It's not like she is running Apple or some large enterprise so this keeps her "busy" while spending her money which she will never spend down unless she gives it away. Even a 1% return on her wealth will still leave her with an annual income of at least $100 million after taxes. If I wasn't old, fat and married I could be her boytoy. I don't thinks Jobs would have cared much for how she spends her pocket change unless it's on a harem of boytoys.

Caligula said...

I don't know what Steve Jobs would have wanted. But, The Atlantic does seem to go totally rancid-rabid during presidential election years.

Now that it has put up a paywall to keep the riffraff out and dropped online comments, I'd expect it to be more rabid than ever.

The Atlantic has reached the point where the rare non-rabid article has become noteworthy just because it stands out so against the background of the crazier stuff. I suppose it won't be long before even these rare exceptions disappear.

Yet, they seem to have found a core audience. The New Yorker mostly caters to a higher income bracket, but I'd expect there's more than a few readers who religiously read both.

Which plutocrat am I defending? Do you consider my correcting the baseless accusation by the Hotheaded Doctor's that Laurene Jobs "murdered" her husband a defense of whatever plutocratic activities she may be involved in, (which are...)?

(Jobs himself, and Apple, can be accused of plutocratic behavior, and I know Jobs was guilty of objectionable behavior personally to people around him, including friends and family, but I do not have any idea what Ms. Jobs is or has been doing with her life. Owning a part of The Atlantic magazine, all I am aware of, is not objectionable.)

The general opinion of Paris Hilton is based on rich heiress stereotypes, and is wrong. She was disinherited because of her antics. Basically, the entire family was...

She runs a retail empire based on selling one prod- Paris Hilton. Skincare, perfume, t-shirts, and other items all labeled with her name.

In addition when you see new coverage of her at some club or another, she’s there being paid for being there because she’s Paris Hilton. I’m not in the income range that gets me into parties where DJ Paris Hilton is spinning the discs.

Do I approve of her lifestyle? No, but she doesn’t care and shouldn’t. Do I approve of her entrepreneurial skills? Well, yes.

Is she a winner or loser in life? At 49 she has money and fame, and possibly, a few real friends. But at 39 she doesn’t have kids, and isn’t likely to. At 65 I have a house, retirement pay though I’m still working a stress free job, a wife for 42 years, and 5 successful children. I have neither fame nor fortune, but I’m a winner in life as part of me, my children, live on. Along with my now up to 6 grandchildren.

Cook, like most of the people here, I just get tired of your communist antics sometimes. I have dealt with hundreds of people who made bad decisions about their health and regret it later when it is too late. Steve McQueen had no good alternative. Jobs had a good option that he neglected and with an alternative medicine type gold digger for a wife, his later regrets sound familiar. I've seen it many times. You, on the other hand, with your close personal relationship with Jobs and your extensive experience in the food service industry, of course, know better.

You still have not provided a scintilla of evidence to show that Jobs' "alternative medicine type gold digger...wife" was or is either a gold-digger or that she counseled Jobs to not have surgery when it was first suggested he have it. Exactly the contrary is stated by Jobs' biographer in his book about Jobs: She urged Jobs to have it, and Jobs preferred to try alternative methods. He was always a hippy-dippy cosmic seeker at the same time he was a hard-nosed businessman.
