Interesting how ANTIFA and other Far Left militant groups can take over a city without barely a wimpier from soft Do Nothing Democrat leadership, yet these same weak leaders become RADICAL when it comes to shutting down a state or city and its hard working, tax paying citizens!

A natural and undeniable campaign narrative with which Biden and the dems will be confronted.
Not by the dems of course, but in the republican ads that aren't censored by the legacy and social media.
I really hope the Trump campaign uses the footage of the dems celebrating the destruction of their own cities along with Howard's Heroes in Seattle while sending armed personnel to break up moms and kids playing on playgrounds, arresting a father for playing baseball in a park with his daughter and busting up orthodox Jewish funerals.
Good one. That'll sting.
Republicans were already making inroads with minorities and urban voters. It explains the timing.
About fifty years ago I played around with Tarot cards. I remember the phrase “penetrating matter, and informing it.” Describes some of Trump’s tweets.
hmmm. He's got a point
Could it be they prefer destructive forces while having antipathy
towards the edifying ones?
Good news Howard! Howard's Heroes in Europe shout antisemitic chants, including “dirty Jews,” at a massive demonstration against racism in central Paris, France, on Saturday.

There is now open alignment between the marxist-anarcho left/dems/islamic supremacists/ChiComs.
Love him or hate him, he does have a point.
Can’t wait for the series of Trump - Biden debates.
Love to see how Joe babbles his way through them...
“We hold these truths to be self- evivevebt - you know the thing”
And now everyone focuses on the misspelling. Very productive.
Barely a wimpier of covfefe?

Wimpier, haha, yeah, we get it.
But it's almost, almost as if Dems have chosen sides.
Hard to argue with that tweet.
Okay, now it really is TOO obvious that our President is doing this on purpose. Shirley even the most afflicted TDS victim won’t fall for this.
Occam’s razor: Apple spellcheck corrects “wimper” to “wimpier”.
It's pronounced Wim-pee-AY, and it's French.
That's going to leave a mark! You go girl.
Shoulda been “...bearly a wimpier...”
Probably shoulda been in all caps too.
DJT is off his game.
just like you to point out a typo - and not even comment on the content. Sigh.
Without a "wimpier" which is basically "a timid response"? That is hilarious. He sends the media off on a tangent with every single tweet.

it's Flag Day, and Trump's birthday.
... coincidence? ;-)
He ain't lying...
Trump is going to play the 'I wasn't the one who put you all out of work' angle for every vote it is worth. Rightly so.
Trump knows that’s how most people speak. Elites don’t.
Misspelled but absolutely true. If the Dem governors had any smarts at all they would have thrown in the towel after last weekends protest/riots.
Indeed. Also - the hack press are un-interested in anarchist left-wing antifa militants with guns.
So much for the gun debate.
Gets whimper and Wimpy both into one word. Concision.
Trump is going to play the 'I wasn't the one who put you all out of work'
And if there is a second wave, Trump now has cover to blame the increase illnesses on the protesters.
Blaming Trump for (a wish for) second wave was the best hope for the Dems.

The left furnishes the Trump campaign with so much material they don't even need to add editorial comment. Show Whitmer kneeling in a crowd of protesters and then cut to that 77 year old barber being arrested for cutting hair.
Pacwest got the real intent here. Trump is preparing battle on the economy, and it will be hard for the Democrats to answer this tactic. It isn't like Trump was the biggest supporter for the shutdowns, and it was the Republicans that pushed back against it, and are still doing so.
It's not just "wimpier" that's wrong. It's also "without barely."
There's an artistry to it.
Misspelled so that the TDS mob will spread his message for him.
But misspelled with a word he wants everyone to be hearing as the subtext of the tweet.
Without barely is okay. It's even less noise than barely a wimper.
Trump's impotence as a leader is now plain for all to see. Ann Coulter was right.

I can go on.
Thats called smart.
Autocomplete is a botch.
The obvious solution is for the President to express his candid views to the media and to let them make typo corrections as they faithfully report things. Why can't that happen?
People also say "I could care less" and even though that is incorrect, everyone knows what they mean. People will read Trump's comment the way he meant.
btw, im not picking on you Ann as far as presenting this. I try to correct my mistakes, but not always. sometimes I start sentences without a capital. I dont have to worry about 20,000 media members dissecting every possible meaning behind every possible word either. Petty people worry about petty things. (again, not directed at you).

The point of language is communicating.
On what level is Trump wrong, if his goal is disseminating his ideas around the media censors who will be unable to resist pointing to his alleged wrongness?
Althouse sees the game.
But she's kind of a pedantic.
Should have used "with nary"?
Grandad shouting at the tv on his birthday.
It's "with barely," not "without barely."
It's like "can hardly," and not "can't hardly."
I think the substance of the tweet is worth understanding and discussing. I didn't put this up solely to point out the errors.
DEM mayor and his wussie police chief allowed the rioters to do awful things to downtown restaurants and shops in beautiful Charleston, SC on Saturday night, May 30th. Millions of $$ of damage, customers and restaurant staffers scared to death.
Kumbaya, my ass. B_stards!

“without barely a” wimper.
Texts autocorrect wimper. Mine chose “simper” the first time. Wimpier was the option on the right. It isn’t difficult to figure out what happened.
I know you carry a fancy that you are as smart or smarter than Trump. Pedantic games are played by pedantic people who find themselves at the end of an intellectual box canyon. The self styled elites are the worst.
But any cruelly neutral observer would know the truth.
“ I think the substance of the tweet is worth understanding and discussing. I didn't put this up solely to point out the errors.”
I am less convinced “without barely” is an error. There are lots of phrases like this, that shade into a redundant negative. You sneer at “can't hardly” but it’s standard in some dialects. This is a trace of a subjunctive used to express doubt. In French, which has a robust subjunctive, formal prose inserts a redundant negation “ne” in such cases. It has a formal name in French grammar. https://french.kwiziq.com/revision/grammar/how-to-understand-the-ne-expletif
This was not uncommon in English in days of yore, and one see this kind of faint echo in regional dialects, especially in the south.
William,
To be fair, the last Republican mayor of Charleston was during Reconstruction.
So it's Trump's fault.
Jeniffer Love Hewitt says it's "Can't Hardly Wait" and who am I to argue.

“...yet these same weak leaders become RADICAL when it comes to shutting down a state or city and its hard working, tax paying citizens!’
Astounding how he expects people will simply forget that he signed on to the social distancing and even bragged about how many lives it saved. Now he tries to get his followers to forget all about what he said and did when he advocated social distancing. And his followers will comply.
"But she's kind of a pedantic."
Not a pedant?
Sorry- couldn't resist. ;)

“I think the substance of the tweet is worth understanding and discussing.”
Oh OK. Well then:
It’s total BS. And it’s embarrassing that you think your commenters are dumb enough to think a city has been taken over, such that your commenters want to use this alternative universe tweet as anything more than another throw away chance to say that the libs suck shit. Which is what they say re everything and anything.
BTW, I happen to have been all over the city recently. And am still here. There are (literally) open doors and small kids out playing and tweeting birds and joy everywhere. (BTW, we (w/ our dogs) rack up at least seven miles jogging every day.) So, it’s really obvious to me that this is BS. But, even your con DJT lovers can’t really say much that they haven’t already said. “Libs are evil, DJT is great.” What more do you expect from this tweet? Seems like fussing w/ the text is a welcome change.
IMHO.
A friend of mine is concerned we may be headed to civil war. Many liberals said “not my president” about George Bush and about Trump. I know almost no conservatives who said that about Obama. The venom on the left will need to be put down in one way or another.

Stuck clock alert. Birkel is right. That is why I fought pedantry with pedantry, in explaining about the remains of the subjunctive in regional English.

LOL!
ARMs penchant for projection amazes me.
“...without barely a wimpier...”
He gotcha, Professor! Hah!
Don't the Dems hate it when Trump speaks the strait truth.
But then evil hates the light. For when it shines the cockroaches scurry for cover.
The substance is worth understanding. Talk about having low expectations for the chief executive of the federal government.
But she's kind of a pedantic.
Kind of? There's a picture of her next to the definition in the dictionary! However it is a forgivable thing in someone who works with words and their meanings. I just don't understand why it doesn't make her a Scalia type originalist instead of a "words have an emotional gestalt" "words mean what I intend for them to mean" Progressive type.

FIFY
bigly bad grammars.
oh well. Still better than these cons and fools.
The substance is obvious.
Trump makes the argument about the lack of virtue among his opponents. He uses the classic hypocrisy pincer enhanced by values inversion - a pincer with painful spikes attached. Well done, but the setup was just lying there for all to see, just needed picking up and squeezing.
Its difficult to wiggle out of this, within the usual rules of controversy, though of course they have rarely applied. The argument part of these fights is rarely the decisive thing. Wars aren't won by fencers swords but by weight of artillery fire.
Does Trump have a way to counter-fire sufficiently? He did in 2016, using guerrilla tactics, of being strong in just the few spots where his enemy was weak, and relying on, effectively, subversive samizdat.
The substance of the message is obvious Readering - the Dem establishment is hypocritical and, moreover, their values are inverted, loving the useless and harmful while hating the useful and beneficial.
I propose to fight along this line until October. Every Republican Senator and Congresscritter should follow his lead, down to the least typo. "Barely a wimpier" is a brilliant. Who's wimpier, Biden, Schumer or Pelosi?
She needs to eat more than rice cakes.

Did you happen to stop over in CHAZ to see Howards Heroes put the street preacher in a chokehold before they bloodied him up?
That will teach him about straying from an islamic supremacist or Maoist line, eh?
Tell us more of this paradise on earth.
I'm Not Sure:
Yes, you did fall into the trap.
Thank you for playing.
(When I have to explain it, it isn't as funny.)
Ken B remains a cvnt.
No alert necessary.
Oh, the spelling error is definitely intentional- the tweet will be retweeted by Trump's enemies for the next two days.
"without barely" is unintentional, but it is a common thing in English as others have noted- I can't even, at this point, call it an error.
Gahrie,
Most of the people in academia think very narrowly on a narrow topic in a narrow field about which few others care. It's kind of baked into the proverbial cake - which you should not be forced to bake, btw.
Very few of them think widely about broad, meaningful subjects that matter to many. It's a failing of the academy. There are so very many more that attract greater attention!
You don't get published thinking about big issues that cross over fields.
I have no doubt pedantry was a very useful skill, professionally. And less useful elsewhere. But on this blog it creates a special something. It's unavailable elsewhere. So it works.
And here we are.
There's just one question left in my mind. Do the Dems know? Are they pretending or are they all hysterically deaf? Whimper or wimpy or both at once?
> I think the substance of the tweet is worth understanding and discussing.
Yes.
He is pointing out the hypocrisy of Dem executives.
They love messaging to establish shared values.
Church is not worth gathering.
Protest are worth any number of deaths.
Businesses can be "locked down" forever, while big stores remain open.
side note:
Test AND QUARANTINE in central state run facilities WOULD work: they do this in VN, TH, China, Singapore.
(media and gov always call for "more testing" without explaining what comes after positive results)
US will not attempt the QUARANTINE, so its "everyone without a lobbyist" suffers based on the city and state leaders virtue signalling.
Trump speaks facts to truth.
Democrats are Pro-Choice, selective, opportunistic, once too often. Time will tell if their appeal and utility to the 1%ers is sustainable.

Trump messes up grammar and spelling, but his thoughts are spot-on.
Althouse clutches pearls, swoons.
My God, how many times must Trump's tweets blow up in the media before these idiots understand that the spelling errors draw attention to the message, at least among LIVs who otherwise wouldn't care? If Joe Biden is seriously relying on a "Trump's a wimp, crack down!" impulse, he'll be bitterly disappointed. And quite a few nationalists are smug about leftist cities burning, if they're not openly celebrating. They're not wanting to provide gas and matches to the BLM protestors setting the NY elite storefronts on fire, but give it time.
By the way, I can see that almost all the liberals here are coming out as Coulter fans- but the fact is, she's taken the ticket. We know she's trying to earn her pay by being in the Too Right Wing for Trump, which is the only acceptable position. If Coulter was Right Wing for Trump, she'd be in serious danger of deplatforming. Tucker Carlson is the same way. At TheDonald.Win, Fox is regarded as having a MAGA Boomer veneer, at best.

A simple truth my intellectual betters refuse to acknowledge. President Trump is always selling. Before you critique the message/messenger, figure out the message and the target audience. But the President also knows the medium is against him and factors that in also.
This is all intuitive, built up over a million interactions during his lifetime. This is not cognitive output, its instinctual.
It's not just "wimpier" that's wrong. It's also "without barely."
Isn't that like the regardless/irregardless thing?
Is grammar policing a form of Karen-ing?

It's Althouse's blog and she thinks it's blogworthy. I may not agree (I don't), but, as Ronald Reagan once said, she paid for the microphone.
Similarly, Trump paid for his microphone.
Ken B have you seen that male suicide deaths in California outnumber WuFlue deaths over the last two months, just like us covidiots told you would happen if the economy was stalled unnecessarily? That doesn’t even factor in the pain and suffering from millions of delayed transplant, joint replacement, hernia, crushed vertebrae (my wife has two and an untreated compression fracture of a third), and more “elective” surgery and dental work etc. You shutdown shitheads have blown any credibility the health experts had.
