I guess Blake Shelton is persona non grata.

Beautiful lady, and talented.

Brimley is still alive. Stefani was almost 16 when the movie came out. They’ve both aged well since then.

I’m 83 days away from the line. Had no idea.

I certainly don’t feel like it, being the father of a 4 year old and 1 year old.

Hard to tell them apart. After all the number of days you have been alive determines all. Or is that skin tone.

It looks like she has aged gracefully and beautifully.

I just saw this for the first time today and I have been laughing all day.

She still looks 23. It's amazing. I would inject myself with her blood if she started her own Goop. Gweep maybe

I went to school with a guy who claimed she was ugly.

I was aghast.

He ended up a few years later making rounds through a Mayo as top brass enlisted. Moved back to his hometown too. There are a lot of big fish in that little pond. Most are actually in other ponds, bigger, much moreso in some cases, most of the time.

I heard later she (Steffani) was known to stink of sweat back in the old drug days of super juicy fluids all over.

Latest was/is* Gavin made her always appear in full makeup, even at 3:10 or 10:00, am/pm don't matter, otherwise he would divorce her.

*Who knows?

The first time I heard of the Brimley Line was in reference to Tom Cruise.

Talk about a 'grim milestone'.

I know someone else who thought Vanna White was ugly.

It took me decades to figure out what she meant, but I can see it now. I could see now even Vanna at 25 what this person was referring to.

The most interesting thing now though is Katie Lee who blanked a Cuomo. After Billy Joel loosened her up morally, for sure.

Finally, I heard the song I appreciate most when juxtaposed with Hardin:

"Baby, why won't you just meet in the middle,
I'm losing my mind just a little,
So why can't you just meet me in the middle?"

And I say this as someone who feels the cast of the TV series The Middle are heroic auteurs the likes again we won't see again soon, unless like me it's in our own mind.

The interweb says Brimley was 49 when he acted in Cocoon.

Wilford Brimley's role in "Absence of Malice" will be immortal.

Ann Althouse said...

The surprising thing is how young Brimley was when he played the stereotypical oldster.

I recommend this Twitter accou, which is totally devoted to the crossing of the Brimley/Cocoon line. Some even cross the double Brimley.

To you the surprising thing is .... more powerful from your perspective than what you seem to have concluded given what you've written previous/now/future.

“The surprising thing is how young Brimley was when he played the stereotypical oldster.”

Yes Althouse, we know yur not an typical oldster.

You’re the cool mom who liked going to the concerts w/ the kids! As you’ve bragged.

Cool.

The Antareans were literally a glaring example of white supremacy.

And they took only white people with them (scroll down).

guildofcannonballs said...

"... the stereotypical oldster." is a good point if there were such a thing, which there isn't.

Figuring out why there isn't "the stereotypical oldster" is what this crisis will take, and you sadly are not up for it.

Consider how frustrated you felt when as a woman your role was to moderate, because males kept acting up. Now simply (merely as you may like) consider men saying "okay." We men won't moderate you anymore. Surely Utopia must await.

Lotta great stories and history fulfill your wants and desires, so let's just see what plays out then shall we?

Wow I would think a rich trophy would just do rich trophy things, but to imitate Donald Trump's daughter so conspicuously is courageous.

Brimley/Cocoon Line

The interesting thing about it is that's it's contrived, yet completely uninteresting.

Mark said...

I know that this Gwen Stefani person sang that one song a long time ago, and I know I've heard the name many times since, but really what has she done since then?

Stephen said...

The first time I saw Wilford Brimley was in 1981's Absence of Malice. He shows up for a few minutes and dominates the room in the presence of Oscar-winners Paul Newman and Sally Field. How anachronistic that movie seems today--with the journalist character played by Sally Field clearly doing evil by revealing secrets that hurt innocent people, and Wilford Brimley's DOJ official who used his power to fix things while displaying integrity. Like I said, an anachronism.

Michael K said...

My link to the Brimley scene in the movie seems to have disappeared.

Another moderation annoyance.

Try again.

h said...

DO NOT, no matter what else you do, DO NOT google "Don Imus" and "Wilfred Brimley".

I recommend that we reflect on the following facts.

(a) the "Brimley line" is based on numbers of days since birth. however, some people live many days for every day since birth, others live only a few hours a day. As such the "Brimley line" is inaccurate and hopelessly useless.

(b) in practical Christian theology, looking much younger than your actual age can be a sign of one of two things (well, more than two, but I am keeping it simple) - (Roman Numeral One) in Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov, an elderly monk who looked 20 years younger than his age was described as looking younger because of his internal selfishness .... (Roman Numeral Two) by contrast, having a good heart, with joy and love for others, can keep some people, who are not faced with the necessity for heroic travails, looking young for a long long time.

(c) I talk about myself sometimes, not because I like to, but to encourage others, who have suffered more than me, or almost as much as me, to reflect on how much they have suffered, the way I have suffered (while still remaining a person with faith and joy in his heart, thanks for asking), and to reflect on how much God loves those of us who have suffered (which is almost all of us)...

so stop reading now if my comments have annoyed you in the past, if not , read on , my young friends ......

When I was about 6 or 7, I was a veteran at knowing a rotten person when I saw one, and I really really hated rotten people, and could have stared down such a person as well as General Krulak or Yul Brynner could have at the ages of 60 or 70.

That being said, nobody as pretty as Gwen Stefani has ever shown much romantic interest in me, well, no natural blondes, anyway, well, at least two, but no more than two in all these years. That I know about.

and no, I do not hate rotten people anymore, I reflect on the fact that we should not judge, because we do not know everything, and because God advises us not to judge each other ....
that being said, it is extremely rare that rotten people enjoy being in my vicinity. Just saying.

In our era of better nutrition and exercise, we forget how fast people used to get old back in the day. William Hartnell was in his mid to late 50s when he was on Doctor Who and his frailty was a recurring plot point on the show. Sylvester Stallone just did another Rambo movie at 72!!!!

Gwen was and is awesome. Love that girl.

Hopefully we all make it at least to that timeline.

I liked Brimley best as the hitman in The Firm. My Okie step father in law was a dead ringer for him.

I would subscribe to Gweep. No doubt.

[Max von] Von Sydow often portrayed characters that were much older than he was. In The Exorcist (1973), he played the 80-year-old Father Merrin ("The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!") when he was 43.

Brimley began as a stunt man and horse wrangler.

I never heard of the Brimley/Cacoon line before. My line was the the Abe Vigoda line. That's when I noticed I was older than Abe Vigoda was when Barney Miller premiered. It's hard to believe that he was only 52 when he played the Sgt. Phil Fish on that show.

I’m playing a person that is older than myself but that’s because of my age.
