I run most mornings but not this morning because I am getting over the Solo 50k I did Sunday and I have to get to the airport. I'll try to get in 3 when I get to TX. This weekend I'll do 10 miles each day. No rest for the weary as I am getting ready for an overnight 12 hour event on July 4th. I was supposed to do an organized 50k last weekend but it postponed. My training was going so well that I didn't want to waste it so I ran a solo 50k at the Cornelia Fort Aeropark in Nashville Sunday morning. 1.25 mile loops up and down two former runways with track style curves connecting each end. It went well; I PRed.
MLL. I saw an interview with Tiger Woods. He said one of his worst life decisions was including running 30 miles a week, in his conditioning. He notes it ruined his knees and hurt his back. What I took away from his comments, took me back to Grandma's mantra. "all things in moderation."
Yeah, I saw that thing about Tiger Woods. If I had any pain in my knees, it would make me worry. I'm running 1.7 miles a day and feeling absolutely zero pain. I'm running on dirt paths, not concrete or asphalt.
@DB..I will be commuting to the west coast today. Tomorrow I have 3 segments, all on the west coast. All the flights I have either operated or commuted on over the last month have had loads between 10 and 30%. I see NBC is talking with the Boeing CEO who is saying recovery will take 5 years and may take out a Legacy carrier. United’s displacement bid that came out a week ago appears to be setting the table for a large furlough late in the year. As much as 30%. Exposure for long haul flying with augmented crews is extreme. The only silver lining is that retirements remain high throughout the industry and will not peak for several years.
I'm jealous. I miss running, I ran about 20 miles a week for 20 years but now one knee is trash and I can't. Feels great when those endorphins start popping.
I am missing part of my knee cap from a car accident and was advise to stop running by an sports orthopedic doctor, to try and save the knee over the long term. Since then I've transitioned to yoga and whenever I do go for a jog, I mostly just walk now, the knee feels very strong.
Tiger Woods should have done yoga and calisthenics. I think it was the lifting the weights to become the size of a green beret that messed him up. 30 miles of running a week is also too much, especially with all the walking golfers do or should be doing.
Thank you for sharing your morning routine with us Meade and Althouse.

Pain is a great early warning indicator. Mostly I was reminiscing about the wisdom of my Grandmother, our elders. Length of life affords those that have turned the calendar many times, a perspective that is worthy of examination.
I am so pleased that morning frosts are now over. (He wrote with hope and a 99% certainty). But I'm having trouble getting up early. Maybe tomorrow. A good morning walk is a great tonic.
Undoubtedly Tiger woods was juicing. Not that there's anything wrong with that. On top of that he's probably using a lot of ibuprofen for the pain. That's not good for your joints long-term. Chronically taking painkillers is about as smart as taking your temperature gauge off your automobile once it starts to overheat.
It's officially running if your pace is faster than a 9 minute mile; any slower is a jog. If a bear or badger is chasing you, then it's definitely running.
Unknown@932-- so the bear or badger is definitely running at >9mph?
Howard@909-- I see these "what pain?" commercials and shake my head. "What long-term side effect?" is what most people need to worry about. IMH IANAD O.

I guess it would be pretty stupid to base my fitness routine on what one other person said about how running affected him with his particular physiology. I suggest you keep following Grandma's advice and I'll just keep on doing what works for me, in moderation and occasionally in great excess, with perfectly healthy knees and having never had any back problem whatsoever after decades of long distance running. What a dumbass comment to make to someone you know nothing about.
I hated running. I did it because I had to in the Air Force for 24 years. Now I can hardly walk. Every step I take shoots a stab of pain in my hip joints. Orthopedic doctor said there was nothing he could do about it. Every morning, at 5:30, I walk our dog for about 30-45 minutes. We probably cover about 1/2 a mile. Sometimes I have to stop and rest my hips. Three miles an hour has been the standard marching rate since Roman times. The Roman mile was a thousand paces (not steps, a pace is two steps), approximately 5000 feet. The word Mile means thousand (Roman numeral M). Three miles was a league, an hour's march. The Roman Empire was measured in leagues--marching time for the Roman army.I could barely make a league in an hour today, maybe.
BTW, 280 ft was added to the English mile by Queen Elizabeth I to standardize it and make her miles equal to 8 furlongs.

Who is that?
Jeez. I'm still just sipping my coffee.
Is that our host? Nice technique. Truly a blazing sun, was it a blazing run?
Your dedication to the daily run is impressive, made more so because I hate running.

MLL:
You are flying? Please report back.
Have you considered a drone for pictures? You can get ones that can follow you while you jog.
Runrise.

Did it about two weeks ago. Loved it. Hardly anyone there. Plane 1/3 full. I have to wear a mask this time.

Looks like AA is being chased by a Scooby Doo type spirit. Run Shaggy, run!
Is it OK to wear mascara in the mask era?

"Runrise" said Scooby-Doo!
It looks cold there.

Ann:
Where did you get the idea that you are old? You get up at 5 and run.
Running from Mount Doom!
Stay out of Sauron's gaze!
Two immediate titles for the photograph came to mind:
“Leaving Paradise (CA)”
“Lot’s Wife”
Great photo! Is Meade the better picture taker?

Looks like an Oblivion gate from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. No daedra, fortunately!
Look who needs a hair appointment
9 minute mile is not 9 mph.
With my short legs I really scamper at 6mph!
Need mor covefe. Numbers are hard.

Exit, chased by a bear
