A key point in the US women's soccer pay lawsuit:

(The judge) emphasized that the women had agreed to a deal with more security and benefits rather than gamble on the higher upside of the men’s pay-per-game deal, a central point in his finding that the women hadn’t proved their pay-discrimination point.

IOW the women did not fairly recognize the value of the risk aversion benefits they are receiving.

It seems to be a common refrain: women view themselves as 'smarter' by choosing more secure pathways, then demand pay equality with those who choose higher risk/reward scenarios.

Twin Peaks had the best music of any television show ever done.

Great music! It's strange that someone of Badalamenti's talent seemed to write/perform mostly soundtracks.

My fave Twin Peaks was the arm wrestling scene in S03:E13 -
"Starting position is more comfortable." LOL.
Then he crushes the guy's face with one punch.

After 3.5 years of lies about Russia and an impeachment of an innocent man over the actual crimes of Joe Biden - & all sorts of media lies going along with these hoaxes and lies
ie: the corruptocratic-Maddow-Hillary bullshit spreaders - is it any wonder some people think this is another hoax to take down Trump and install Hillary?

The thing I don't get is this: there is almost a glee from the Ken B's and Inga's whenever there is bad news on the Covid front. Do these people know how petty and low they sound whenever they start a thread announcing how many more people are dead from Covid?

What makes people like that tick?

By Hugh Walpole

W S Maugham's send-up of him at the beginning of Cakes and Ale ruined his reputation.

@rehajm, I read that too. Too many women here in the 21st century make bad decisions, then later want a do-over on the grounds that, being mere women, they aren’t bright enough to make the best choice. I see it as a betrayal of what feminism in the 1970s was all about.

This one is very calm and peaceful. Expressionist Diner feels violent and dangerous. And they're so close in color and composition. Odd.

"Sincere question for Christians: how do you reconcile your conception of God as revealed by Christ with the god of the Old Testament?"

The question is: what lessons are we to take from the Old Testament? And the answer is: How did Christ take the Old Testament?

For example, he said "This is how you pray. Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen." This can be reconciled with the Old Testament but I wouldn't have thought of it myself at all so that is why it is presented as a revelation.

At other times, it is specifically said "A new commandment I give to you."

Anthropology and archaeology are in such a state of flux that it's hard to know what in them is central and to be reconciled with Christian revelation. Meanwhile it has never been the Catholic or Jewish or Islamic position that the Bible means in all its words exactly what a sixteenth century translation would suggest to an average sixteenth century reader in England or what a twentieth century translation would suggest to a Greenie. It is clear from the Bible that in the time of Christ the then existing part of the Bible was being misinterpreted by important segments of Jewish leadership, especially the Pharisees.

J Farmer,

That is a question likely not suited to this format, but here is a stab at a beginning of it.

Just remember, anything you could possibly tell him, he knows already. And will cheerfully explain to you why you are wrong.

I see this in your commentary. You are deeply aware of the obviously desperate--those in groups homes, foster homes, shelters, etc.

That's exactly how he makes his money. As a Government contractor running an Island of Misfit Toys.

You seem to approach those of us who believe as lab specimens. How curious these people are. How unlike me. Stop it. It is unseemly. I could equally dissect you as a specimen, an object. How strange, this man, who is oblivious to what God has made obvious. Instead, I see you as human, fully human, and thus not a thing to be examined.

The pity is, being rich and connected, he will probably succeed in acquiring a kid "of his own." Not having a child - getting one. Then he will regard it as a laboratory experiment; it will disappoint him; who knows what happens next-good luck to both of them.

He won't be to blame, after all; it's not his blood; he knows all too well the defect rate on misfit toys. In all sad sober earnest he might be better off with a dog. A dog will never disappoint him.

“I have two sons who fall into this category. One, my oldest, has matured into productivity and discipline, with large doses of tough love from me. Thank God. The other, my youngest, is struggling. I try to offer advice, but....I am his mom. What do I know? He isn't going to end up homeless, or in prison (my middle son, sadly, is there), but he might never really launch.”

From the woman who seems to think she has the power to direct everything and thinks she controls other people’s conversations, she couldn’t raise two out of three sons to be productive adults.

I guess I have much to be proud of in how my four children turned out, being raised mostly by myself after my husband died.

Inga, speaking of Bronze Age myths, have you ever heard of Niobe?

I would forgive you for writing that, but I think that necessitates you regretting it. I hope you regret it. It's really one of the worst things you have ever said. You know that I don't routinely attack you, so I hope you will take my words to heart.
