At the Lakeside Café...

... you can talk all night.

And don't forget about the Althouse Portal to Amazon. Here's something good I just had delivered: a Versa-brella. I thought I needed to buy a big patio umbrella with a heavy stand to arrange for the shade I needed to enjoy the deck, but for $20, I got a very nice, highly adjustable umbrella that clamps to my Adirondack chair.

Given the weather and the calendar the crappies in Lake Mendota should be finishing their spawning cycle. The bluegills should be moving into the shallow bays for their reproductive event. It's a good time to be a fisherman.

Why would trump accuse joe Scarborough of killing a co-worker 30 years ago? He must know it will distract attention from his great work against the invisible enemy.

For the past few nights I have been outside at dusk, sipping G&T's and watching and listening as bats catch and crunch Junebugs! Honestly, in my lifetime of observing nature, this is a unique episode.

Althouse, I understand the reasons for moderation. By the time I arise in the am, your posts are over 4 hours old - but enjoy the comments although reduced in number.

I hope you are still searching for an solution - when you decide to jump to a pay mode, I'll be there.

On Saturday the LA Times published an article that had a great title:
HOW L.A. COUNTY BECAME CORONAVIRUS EPICENTER: Slower shutdown, density, poverty among theories.

And I thought, great, answers to my questions!

But when I read it, I was severely disappointed.

The comments and my knowledge were a lot more informed, than what I got from the article, by a UC Berkeley Biology and English Graduate, the top public university in CA.

Key Points Missed:

1. 3 Days delay between Bay Area and LA Closing did not make a huge amount of difference.
2. No mention of how over 50% of deaths have been in nursing homes.
3. No mention of how many infections were in institutional settings, such as Prisons and Nursing Homes
4. No mention of how the MTA has decreased number of buses, due to less bus riders.
5. No mention of where are being getting infected.
6. No mention of demographics of which areas are most heavily infected in LA county
7. No mention of R Factor, and how increased number of infections is due to testing increasing 400% in last 4 weeks.
8. No explanation on why SF has so few cases
9. No mention of Coronavirus in homeless
10. No mention of impact of masks
11. No mention of demographics of mask usage, and impact on infection rates. A comment mentioned crowds outside a section 8 building, wearing no masks.
12. No comparison between NYC and LA on death rates
13. Claim of high higher density just does not make sense in LA. We are not like NYC, much less SF.
14. No mention of CA policy, at least for first 15 days, of requiring Coronavirus tested positive patients to be admitted to nursing homes. I am not sure if the policy is still in place, or if there are incentives for a nursing home to admit Coronavirus patients.

I think Trump calling for an investigation of Scarborough as payback for all the bogus investigations and ridiculous accusations made against him and his nominations. In this case, Joe is a scapegoat for all the other media. I think Trump knows it's ridiculous.

That's lovely, Prof.

The first hour of GRANT (History Channel 3-night special event!) is about enough. Too bad, but these things no longer surprise me. A great man, he deserves better than cheese like this.

News from Ohio:

"The number of deaths from the coronavirus in Ohio’s nursing homes is now over 1,200. That means long-term centers account for nearly seven out of 10 deaths from the virus in the state."

Well probably, but the fact the medical examiner in that case is umm compromised is also interesting he went to jail in 2012 for inappropriate handling of body parts

In the graduating class of 2020 there are some who go into lockdown waiting for colleges to be safe for them and their professors and there are others who start jobs delivering to their former classmates who are locked down. The Republicans want everyone to come out and share the risk but the Dems want to lockdown to continue till there is a vaccine and the Precious Ones are safe.

Even more fun, was the left that started the rumor at the time, including DailyKos and Micheal Moore.

"Why would trump accuse..."

Find me a case where Trump was first with the attacks on anyone. What's the ratio of insults and accusations between Scarborough and Trump? 10,000 to 1? Scarborough attacks Trump for hours every single day and gets paid for it, and Trump returns one shot, and he's the villain?

You might want to check your insurance and see if TDS is covered. Maybe you can file for disability.

Just to be clear on all the connotations of the term "Karen," via Instapundit:

"He began filming “because she refused to put her dog on a leash and he sensed she was going to go full on Karen. And she did,” Cooper tweeted, referring to the social media shorthand for white women who call the cops on black neighbors over harmless incidents."

With apologies to the Karens in my life.

We have been going these summers since I was child. I flew back from CA a few years ago to spend a week with family,.

Looked into trading in my older HD Kindle Fire on Amazon. They offered me $5 for it. Shipping is free, but for that little I'll keep it to use as a music streaming device.

Should hear today about our house buyer's financing application. They were pre-approved but the bank had to do a value assessment. Mrs. stevew will lose her shit if they don't get approved. Mover comes June 12, plans are underway for our new place, and we should have a temporary home rental lined up by this time next week.

Headed into my work office today to pick up a docking station for my laptop. If I'm going to be working remotely it will make the setup a little better. The company will allow me to enter the building, asks that I stay as short a time as possible, touch as few things as I can, and don't wander around. I am to send an email to the facilities manager after my trip documenting where I went and what I touched.

Trump going after Scarborough is both a distraction and the sort of payback, by example, the ken in tx mentions. He is often trying to preempt something with this sort of thing. I don't follow all that noise enough to know what. Noted he's toned down his critique of the Obama Administration a bit the last few days, maybe out of respect for Memorial Day? Speaking of which, that was a great speech yesterday.

Gander, meet goose.

Exactly Ken in Tx: Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Making the young girls parents relive her tragic end is a small price to pay to bolster the Empresses vanity hurt by his obvious lack of leadership and poise in the face of a Pandemic.
