"Commissioner Resigns After He Threw a Cat During Zoom Meeting/'OK, first, I’d like to introduce my cat'..."

"... said a planning commissioner in Vallejo, Calif., lifting it close to the camera and then, with two hands, tossing it off screen.... The cat squeaked as it was being thrown, and a thud could be heard."

The NYT reports.

Chris Platzer, a member of the Vallejo Planning Commission, told the Times-Herald in an email that he had resigned from the agency, effective immediately.

I laughed so hard I platzed.

More cats should be thrown. They kill songbirds and are presently eating the faces off of countless elderly corpses, dead of coronavirus, locked in their lonely apartments.

This incident is already being memed as per my teenager

The nation's Paper of Record is reporting on how a minor official in Vallejo, California tossed his cat out of the room during a meeting?

He was also seen in camera swigging beer.

Guy hadda be a Republican, right? Right?

How soon before the law comes after him? No, really.

Cats always land safe. So this cat must have faked an injury because of its hurt feelings. But we can all send it a bag of Temptations Cat Treats to the Commissioner’s address.

That is a great last name for someone on a city planning commission.

A thud? I doubt it. Cats always land on their feet, unless you toss them sideways at too low an altitude. My brother always loved to toss the cat in the air over the bed or coach and she always landed on her feet, angry feet to be sure.

it's a clean win for him. He won't have to put up the work anymore during these turbulent times.

Cat most probably not hurt at all anyway

Get real time: who among us hasn't thrown a cat? I mean, not in anger or into something, but in an out you gokind of way? It doesn't bother my cats at all.

Big Mike said...

As God is my witness I thought cats always landed on their feet!

This must be what it means to throw a hissy fit.

Did the cat land on its feet? I don't think this guy was enjoying his service, although he was enjoying his beer.

The cat squeaks. The mouse meows. The dog cries? The dissonance grows progressively louder.

So not actual cat juggling?

They’re going to take his cat away from him because of cruelty to animals. Then they’re going to euthanize it.

Narr said...

I've never thrown a cat.

For one thing I'm allergic to the beasties and if I have to move one I will try (in order) barking, bellowing, small projectiles, nudging with a shoe, and as a last resort a gentle kick does the trick.

Narr
My dyslexic friend always wanted to kick the cat down the road

Recently my cat Bud was sleeping on the kitchen counter, when I heard a tremendous crash. I thought a bookcase I use in the kitchen for storing cleaning supplies had been knocked over. When I ran into the kitchen the bookcase was in its place, but Bud was lying on the floor, conscious but clearly dazed. He got up and started walking but was limping. I was hoping he'd just sprained it but when the limp didn't go away I took him to the vet, and an X-ray showed that his right foreleg was fractured. He's been fitted with a splint, but the vet says if that doesn't work out, they'll have to amputate. So that guy in California who threw the cat could have seriously injured it.

Reminds me of The Simpsons' Crazy Cat Lady, who shows her displeasure by hurling some of her dozens of cats at people who annoy her.

He threw the cat to assert dominance. Otherwise the cat would walk all over him.

MayBee said...

I'd have to see the way he threw it. Our cat jumps down from a 7' cabinet all the time. It makes a thud but it's his choice and he isn't hurt.

When you’re a planning commissioner, you may be able to grab one, but woe unto you, if you just start throwing one around during a recorded session of the Rezoning of Parcel B-4.

Y'all ever been to Vallejo? Not a happenin' place. Makes Bakersfield look posh. I sometimes have to drive thru Vallejo on my way to Napa vineyards for wine tasting:)

Just kidding. Hang in there Valljejo. Wonderful ex-Navy base there, Mare Island - famous for submarines. Bubbleheads.

How many times have I thrown our cats? Never. Ever. I wouldn't dream of it. How many times have I tossed our cats? I'm not sure, but I think it is a lot. With the right cat, and the right camera perspective, I'd be cancelled.

You don't expect them to report on the Adventures of Joe Biden or the fact that the FBI framed Flynn, do you?

Knowing only this about him would get my vote, maybe even if he was a Democrat. Some of them are real people.

Yep You know that's what it was. Maybe a whole bunch of them, but even one can get it done.

How silly to throw the cat. It was a fourth down situation, he should have punted.

I listened to the audio from the meeting this morning. The guy was completely blotto. I think it's funnier that he was drunk during the meeting and gave his cat an introduction in the proceedings, than the supposed cat abuse.

Anyone who has had a cat knows they can be stubborn and annoying when they feel like it. For instance you open the door to let them out and they linger on the threshold, being indecisive. So you give them a little toss and make the decision for them.

Vallejo has really cracked down since the Zodiac killings.

If they'd caught that guy when he was still throwing cats, lots of people might still be alive today.

Caligula said...

"Cats always land safe." Unless the cat has lost all or most of its tail. They use their tails to control angular momentum, keeping themselves feet-down.

And even with a full tail, a mishap on a ledge outside the window of an apartment on the tenth floor is feline-fatal, not "safe."

This must be a feel good story? Something to bring a smile to your face for a few moments and take your mind off of the govts over reaction to covid19. It is such a non-event.
Animal abuse? For tossing a house cat? No.

While animal abuse is real, and needs to be taken seriously, equating this to abuse harms animals, not helps

Reminds of that NFL quarterback, Vick? that got busted for dog fighting. Yes serious, but way overblown. I made the comment to my wife when it first hit the news, that just wait, one of these pampered NFL thugs is going to beat is wife?SO, and the only action taken will be debate as to when a players personal life shouldn't control his NFL career. In fact that has happened.
People are more emotionally invested in animals than humans. I love animals, but never get them confused with mankind.
