Morning Joe on the State of the Union: "We expect the President to crow" about the impeachment acquittal.

I just heard that on the car radio as I was driving home from the sunrise.

5DA7F306-7D8A-43B2-BEB1-16B7F4944F4E_1_201_a

Do you expect Trump to use the SOTU to crow about the impeachment? I don't even think he'll bring up the subject! The best political use of the SOTU is not to seem partisan or political at all. I expect Trump to say the state of the union is great, to highlight what he believes are his many accomplishments, and to lay out a future founded on those accomplishments and leading to more greatness. It's weird to think he'd use the SOTU like a rally and go on about the impeachment hoax and the "perfect" phone call.

I remember when Trump was the weirdest thing around. But the reaction to Trump out-weirded him. And here we are on the morning after the Iowa caucus and the Democrats don't seem to have been able to make their way through a predictable, planned event that should have been the height of normality. And here's morning Joe imagining the President behaving chaotically at his well-planned event.

By the way, speaking of Trump and his "greatness" theme, I thought of a slogan for the Democrats, to offset Trump's "Make America Great Again"/"Keep America Great": "What's so great about greatness?"

I also thought of "Oh, great," but you'd have to say it with sarcasm, and a slogan can't depend on saying it in the right tone of voice.

ADDED: Meade said: "We expect the President to crow, and there you have the sunrise.... It's funny that crowing is what a rooster does, and you use the word, but crows don't crow."

AND: Reading the "ADDED," I said: "Morning in America"... and then there's Morning Joe in America.

I remember when Trump was the weirdest thing around.

From the beginning of his campaign, I thought he was simply speaking common sense:

- Border security
- Enforce immigration law
- Merit instead of the quota system
- Mocking PC censorship
- Championing free speech

Perhaps everybody got so caught up in diversity BS and quota entitlements that they forgot about these things.

I don't understand what the weird part is supposed to be, unless it's weird to refuse to be cowed into submission by PC censorship.

Which would make you, professor, weird.

IF he crows...he has EVERY right after the shit show they Democrats have been running since the day he got elected trying to get rid of him because they lost.

Haha, I'd hate to be the poor schmuck who came up with that caucus app.

So moderne, those Democrats. They'd be better off with old school pencil and paper.

Remember when we were going to all vote online? LOL

I agree. Morning Joe is crowing about Trump crowing so can crow about Trump crowing without Trump having to crow.

Quelle surprise! They are blaming a “coding error.” I read a book once on software quality and it said that you should never use the term “bug” but rather call it what it is, a “fuck up.” No code path should have been left untested. It’s a management error. Coding errors are inevitable, and your management of a project should expect them and deal with them.

Gusty Winds said...

He's not going to mention it. Doesn't have to. It's the elephant in the room. Morning Joe is an idiot.

It is really hard not to see “Stop Bernie at any cost” here. But that assumes competence in all parties.

Ann nails it per usual.

But I submit the Dems' reaction to Trump is not just weird, but shows how hateful and out of touch with reality the Dems and Fake News are.

So many comparisons of Trump to Hitler. The constant abuse is so laughable that normal people understand that the Dems are whacked out.

tim in vermont said...

Look what Trump has been up against

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1223994213852950530.html

Some of that shit is just mind blowing. Obama set up a command post a couple blocks from the white house with multiple T3 connections, where Valerie Jarret took up residence. Sounds like a “war room” to me. You know there is one somewhere. The Flynn prosecution was a spoiling attack to defend the deep state positions in intel and the NSC.

He should crow.

Wilbur said...

I hope Trump does not release his SOTU to the media before his address. They'll just use it to rip it and him apart before he ever enters the House chamber. And our Democrat friends will use it to prepare their response.

Trump crows in the morning? The big swinging cock! The dems all look small and flaccid in general and in particular with this Iowa caucus “thing”.

Dems f up election, unexpectedly...

I suspect each so called front runner will claim to be a victim who was prevented from having their victory lap. Sanders will claim “it’s happening again” big DNC conspiracy to stop the socialist. Buttigieg will blame the gay. Warren can go with anti woman or anti Indian.

Classic opening for POTUS to ridicule them all. And he will...

I came here to write that Trump wouldn't crow, he would pounce. Damn you, Aunty Trump!!!!

tim in vermont said...

"Code testing shows the presence of errors, not their absence.”

There is so much to it, that’s why they needed a massive stress test. The stakes were so high. Now the whole point of the caucus is negated. The point was to carry momentum into New Hampshire. Poof! Up in smoke! Err er err er errrrrr!

I’v gotta crow!

Yancey Ward said...

I think Althouse's instincts are correct- Trump is most likely to ignore the impeachment battle. I think, if he mentions it at all, he will tie it into future cooperation- in other words, he is probably going to literally say, "It's time to MOVE ON." Those with longer memories will recognize that 'quote'.

Can anyone recall a SOTU speech awaited with this much drama and suspense. Trump is not the sort to resist the temptation to spike the ball in the end zone. I'm pretty sure Trump will say or do something unexpected and celebratory, and that the Democrats will find some way to express their distaste and disapproval of him. They're in a bit of a pickle though: how to disapprove of Trump whilst appearing supportive of a booming economy. It will be fun to watch and see how this plays out. Pelosi's reactions so much as the botox allows reactions will be the face of the Democratic Party.

mikee said...

Were I Trump, I'd point finger guns at the Secretary of State and make "Pew, pew, pew!" noises as the opening of my speech. Then I'd point to the Democrat seats and blow a long raspberry.

Then I'd face the camera and say, "For the adults in the room, I will now begin my State of the Union speech."

Skeptical Voter said...

Morning Joe wants to talk about roosters crowing. When you think about it, he may be write. There's an old image of roosters crowing on a dung heap. Considering that the SOTU will take place in Nancy Pelosi's House of Representatives--well Trump can crow. The image is apt.

Trump must expect that the Dems in the chamber will act churlishly in some respect (walk out? turn their backs? hiss and boo? wear all black? carry signs?) and the behavior will be aimed at Trump, Pence, GOP congressional leadership, and even the Supreme Court. With this backdrop, Trump wins by acting Presidential. I've read that (pro Brexit leader) Nigel Farage (??) will be a Presidential guest, and you can bet there will be others (would Trump dare invite Limbaugh?). And I'm with stevew planning to watch when I haven't in years, because I want to observe the theater.

Well when Adam Schiff goes before Congress and tells us that President Trump could sell Alaska, it shows what an insane clown show this is.

How Ann Althouse could associate herself with such a corrupt, insane, and venal party is beyond me. Trump is making the Republican Party into the party of the little guy through jobs and listening to their concerns (hint: it is not transgender bathrooms) while the Dem Party has morphed into the party of the Oligarchs and its leaders become fabulously wealthy like the Obozos and the Clintoons. Harry Truman would be vomiting

I think the republicans could counter with a slogan, something along the lines of "What's so bad about feeling great?"

Maybe get George Peppard and Mary Tyler Moore to do it. They could even make a feature length movie about it. Though it would probably suck.

Bernie won, and Biden came in a distant 4th. The Democrat Establishment didn't like the results, so they decided they'd rather kill their caucus, then let Bernie leave Iowa on a "wave".
