Interestingly, I recently saw a show on PBS where an environmentalist was showing how a sea wall was a problem for the environment when storms hit — wetlands and beaches absorb storm surge while sea walls reflect it back and generally add to the havoc. Or so the environmentalist claimed. World is full of self-described environmentalists who turn out to know damned little. But what he said had the ring of common sense.

I can see LLR-lefty Chuck remains quite bitter over the passed USMCA which closes the horrific NAFTA backdoor loophole which allowed our global competitors to completely screw the US on tariff avoidance while maintaining hugh tariffs on US products exported to those nations.

By closing this massive loophole Trump in one fell swoop put ALL future negotiating leverage back in US hands, where it belongs.

Btw, readers here will recall LLR-lefty Chuck going Full Moron Krugman in predicting Trump would complete ZERO trade deals. Zero!

In the real world which is nowhere near LLR-lefty world, Trump renegotiated massive and important trade deals across the board: China Phase 1, USMCA, Japan and South Korea with India/US close to completion, China Phase 2 underway and independent Britain/US in early stages with accelerated discussions by the time of Davos.

Further, Trump's "Britain at the front of the queue" deal is in marked contrast with obamas threatened "Britain to the back of the queue" threat and will be used by both Britain and the US to push back hard against LLR-lefty Chuck's beloved European socialists in upcoming trade talks.

I. Can't. Wait.

John henry said...

If he did support building the wall, he would be a huge beneficiary given how much property he owns in the area.

People would be screaming about self-dealing.

As for what he is hoping to accomplish, I suspect it is saving an unnecessary expense of $200,000,000,000 dollars.

And Chuck, the Mexican's are paying for the wall. Not the way you think they should, writing a check. Not as good as a permanent wall that can't be sent home tomorrow.

But 20m Mexican troops on the border, paid for by Mexico, is a pretty good start.

John Henry

Are there PCBs in the Hudson near Manhattan?

I thought they were all in the upper Hudson near Fort Edward, about 200 miles north of NYC.

They are buried under sediment and there is next to no flow in the Hudson so they have not moved much.

That's my understanding but I don't claim to be up to date on it.

I think the wall would be an environmental disaster.

LLR-lefty Chuck is also very very very upset that Trump has reduced cross-border incursions by 75%, Mexico has placed tens of thousands of troops at the border (I wonder how much that costs?), Mexico is turning back the caravans that Chuck's hero Soros was funding and Trump has finally enough court cases over LLR-lefty Chuck's marxist lawfare heros to accelerate both new wall construction and old wall replacement.

Once again, its the LLR-lefty Chuck Axiom: If its good for LLR-lefty Chuck, its bad for the United States and if its good for the United States its bad for LLR-lefty Chuck and his Team Dem pals.

Who is Trump's political rival, since you are all-knowing? In what world is Biden Trump's political rival? Is is acceptable to ask a foreign government to investigate corruption? I bet a huge majority would say yes. Of course, you have to be interested in the truth to get to that result.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Wow. Where to start with this psychopath?

First off, it's hilarious that the guy who invents the fictional propaganda of "windmill cancer" opens his pie hole about what's environmentally friendly.

Second, it seems he's not against this idea (or climate change) when asking the Scottish government for approval to build a wall around his seaside golf course.

Not sure what kind of wetlands he's looking to protect on the Manhattan coastline, either.

As for his drones' seal barking:

Totally worth it if it keeps New Yorkers in...

Or a New Yorker like him out.

Nothing wrong with it as long as New York pays for it.

New York (and CA, and the blue states in general) pays for the vast majority of this country's expenses. It's the red states who are net takers, and net economic losers.

From a "3d chess" perspective, what is he trying to accomplish?

The complete destruction of America and the world.

The models (i.e. hypotheses) are detached from reality. They require regular injections of brown matter to realize a consensus with reality. There is no day after forthcoming. They need to take rational and reasonable steps to mitigate the unlikely risk of a thousand year storm. That said, New York hopes to share responsibility for a [sociopolitical] climate of their own creation, and is looking for leverage and capital infusions in all the wrong places.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Is is acceptable to ask a foreign government to investigate corruption?

President Mouth never mentioned the word "corruption" once on that phone call. Mentioning a specific American that he wanted to go after politically (and not actually investigate, so long as Ukraine just made a propagandistic announcement pretending to do so? Tons of times.

I bet a huge majority would say yes.

Well, reading the above, we can see that what you'd like to do is to lie about the question.

Of course, you have to be interested in the truth to get to that result.

Right. President Windmill Cancer, with his thousands of lies told since 2016 (and before) has any interest in the truth. Still wondering what all those great wonderful fantastic things that his investigators were supposedly finding out about Obama's birth certificate in Hawaii.

You people are sick. Completely mental and bonkers.

And your knowledge of the environment amounts to what, exactly? Other than pretending that the earth magically and without explanation got to be 60 degrees warmer than space without a greenhouse effect, for instance.

Inconvenient facts for a gullible loser and follower like you, but facts nonetheless. And as relevant a set of facts as any thinking person needs to hear.

The actual greenhouse effect or controlled convection is real and progressive in high density population centers correlated with urban jungles.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

You could say Trump changes his story enough times to make your head spin, but that's the point. He's a lunatic and as Bernie said, a pathological liar. His head is the one that's spinning.

This does not bother Republicans. They actually see it as an asset and a quality worth admiring in a leader. He speaks untruth to the powerlessness that they are right to feel in our larger American society. They complain about the "culture" and think it is conspiring against their fact-free ways. But it is. And it always will. Culture does not thrive in a propaganda machine. North Korea does.

Also, conservatives are not able to do well in the humanities because they have no sense of humanity and do not identify with the human condition. Just like a Viennese painter more than a hundred years ago, the world of art rejects them.

But that painter became a demagogue and as we saw then and now, right-wingers love demagogues. And brutality - for its own sake. The more brutal the better.

He's a psychotic asshole to work for with no plan other than whatever gets him attention that day, he pits underlings against each other, and lets nothing rule other than the chaos of his own psychological problems du jour.

The Gendar Warz are just people taking the evolutionary strategy of what works for their own gender so far and individualistic that it becomes self-defeating. It's about everyone becoming their own royal monarch and then wondering why there's no one left whose sufficiently beneath them to kiss their butt.

But that's not really Auntie Althouse's problem. Auntie Althouse's problem is that she hates sex and thinks human body parts below the belt are creepy.

Sure, many women share this problem with her. But not all. It's becoming increasingly evident how self-defeating it is.

“MORE THAN FOUR-FIFTHS OF 2018 VOTERS RESIDE IN COUNTIES WITH RISING DEMOCRATIC SUPPORT

The nationwide D-R margin favored Democrats in both the 2016 presidential election (as Hillary Clinton won the popular vote over Donald Trump) and the combined national 2018 House of Representatives vote, with the Democratic advantage increasing between the former and latter election from 2.1 to 8.6 percent.

INCREASED 2018 DEMOCRATIC SUPPORT OCCURRED IN SUBURBS, SMALL METROS, AND RURAL AREAS.

Democrats have long done well in large urban core counties, while Republicans tend to be more popular in suburbs, small metropolitan areas, and rural communities. Using an urban typology developed by the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program [2], Figure 3 shows that this characterization is valid for the 2016 presidential election, but less so for 2018 House election.

COUNTIES WITH “REPUBLICAN” ATTRIBUTES SHOWED GREATEST 2018 DEMOCRATIC VOTING MARGIN GAINS.

How demographically distinct are the counties that registered the greatest increases in Democratic support (or reductions in Republican support)? To assess this, it is useful to look at attributes of residents in counties that showed a sharp rise in D-R margins.

2018 DEMOCRATIC MARGINS INCREASED IN STATES KEY TO THE 2020 ELECTION

The victorious party in the 2020 presidential election will rely on the Electoral College rather than the popular vote. A comparison of 2018 House voting results with those of the 2016 presidential election makes plain that the there is ample opportunity for a 2020 Democratic win. Map 3 depicts states where Democrats and Republicans won the cumulative state level House votes.”

“Can you tell us 3 things about Mussolini's Fascism that you disagree with?”

“Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .

Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.”
