Newspapers put out extras - those were the days before television, before the Internet, when kids ran up the streets shouting: "Extra! Extra! Read all about it."
The word was out, and San Jose station KQW began broadcasting the news: There would be a lynching tonight, Sunday, in St. James Park.
"There was no element of doubt in this case ... the men had confessed," said San Francisco Superior Court Judge Timothy Fitzpatrick. "While ordinarily we cannot condone such happenings, from a judicial standpoint, I can only say, in my own personal opinion, they did a damned good job."
Trump's 52 threat is good I think. Magnificent signal. That part of the world understands such talk. The run away crowd will be livid. Birkel, watch your blood pressure.
After watching the series conclusion to Mr. Robot, I advise going back and re-watching season one. So much at the end was already there from the beginning.
Ya know, I live in Deep Blue Montgomery County, MD and I gotta say, that for people leaving in The Time Of The Great Trumpian Fear, where The Resistance is the only possible stance for a moral person to have, people sure seem to be out & about shopping, having a good time eating out at restaurants with their families or dates, or just going about their seemingly pretty damn good lives without worrying about when the Trump admin's Sturmabteilung are coming to get them.
Even the recent Latino immigrants are out with their families at the local restaurants, double proof that there's little fear of ICE & that the rising tide of Trump's economy has lifted their boats as well.
I mean, it kinda makes ya wonder if a lot of this is, well, a pose...
And the CEO of Russia's biggest bank flies into Fort Lauderdale at 2:30 am while Trump is in West Palm. (Flight restrictions limit landings at PBI when the Presidential party is at Mar A Lago.):
We'll see what happens. In my opinion Iran has to respond or they will be viewed as a paper tiger. They must respond to American targets and not just allies. Of course SA and Israel must be on alert too.
Today they made a big deal of revenge talk. They raised a red flag over some mosque. They said they have identified 35 American targets. Bold talk. How can they back down now?
Then Trump raises their 35 to 52 (one for each hostage) Iranian targets.
Make no mistake this was not a risk free operation. Reports say Bush, Obama and Great Britain all passed on opportunities to take out Soleimani.
We will see if Trump is the impetuous, hot headed, shoot from the hip president his distractors insist he is.
I think this is the election right now. If the ME goes south, Trump may even be impeached.
I suspect that right at this moment, there are thousands of Millennials who are Googling "Iran 52 hostages" and learning about it for the first time.
Trump is getting a lot of pushback and mockery for those tweets. I think it was brilliant. He is speaking in a language that Iranians can relate to, while simultaneously reminding Americans of the nature of that regime.
who reported " The level of pro-#Hillary bias I found in #Google's search results - absent on #Bing & #Yahoo - was enough to convince between 2.6 & 10.4 million undecided voters to vote for Hillary."
recently lost his wife in a car accident.
Sadly, he senses the necessity to post this tweet: @DrREpstein
BTW, although losing Misti is devastating for me - there will never be another Misti in my life, after all - I AM STILL NOT SUICIDAL. Hear that, #Google? Hear that, #Hillary?
Andrew Yes I agree. I hope Trump's team have chosen their targets well. My own idea was maybe tell Iran that if they attack their navy has two hours to evacuate. Then sink it. All of it.
Magnificent signal. That part of the world understands such talk.
That is just the kind of bad thinking that has left us stuck in quagmire after quagmire in pointless military adventures in the middle east we cannot extricate ourselves from. We can't figure a way out of Afghanistan, we're deploying more troops to Iraq, and tensions between the US and Iran are reaching critical proportions.
Allow me to offer a much simpler, cheaper, and easier way to protect the US soldiers in Iraq: withdraw them from Iraq.
Maybe the Iraqis will try to kick us out and Trump will say “OK”. Or maybe Iran will attack U.S. forces and Trump will ask Congress for a declaration of war.
My own idea was maybe tell Iran that if they attack their navy has two hours to evacuate. Then sink it. All of it.
Iran's Navy is already pitifully small, under-armed, mostly obsolete, and primarily defensive in its orientation. The vast majority of Iran's power projection has been land-based, and it has not distinguished itself as a particularly impressive naval power.
As usual the Wildcard weekend NFL games are twice as exciting as the Super Bowls. An old Wisconsin favorite, J.J. Watts, playing injured still did his thing to start The Texans comeback. And boy does J. J. love his QB, Deshaun Watson.
Banned Commenter LLR-lefty Chuck: "The evidence edges closer and closer to a conclusion that Donald J. Trump and the Trump organization have major indebtedness to Russian interests."
LOLOLOL
LLR-lefty Chuck goes Full-On Rachel Maddow. No surprise really, since he worships her, unlike those icky evangelicals who vote republican.
Iran's Navy is already pitifully small, under-armed, mostly obsolete, and primarily defensive in its orientation.
Good. Then they won't miss it much.
I think Bush I or Clinton sank most of the Iranian navy once because Iran keeps using their small, defensive navy to threaten the closing of the Hormuz straits.
Now thanks to fracking that would be a devastating as 10 years ago.
So much for a president that vowed not to start any foreign wars. And you people twist yourselves into pretzels trying to rationalize his hypocrisy. So threatening to blow up cultural sites is avoiding a full blown war? His BIG mouth has put the security of this nation at risk.
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump ....targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats! 4:52 PM · Jan 4, 2020·
“The comments from Trump while he’s at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, seemed at odds with Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, who said repeatedly in the past two days that the U.S. “remains committed to de-escalation.” Trump on Friday said the U.S., in targeting Soleimani, “took action last night to stop a war, we did not take action to start a war.””
Iran's Navy is already pitifully small, under-armed, mostly obsolete, and primarily defensive in its orientation. The vast majority of Iran's power projection has been land-based, and it has not distinguished itself as a particularly impressive naval power.
Seems perfect for propaganda purposes. No real serious loss but another example of what can be done. Then bragging about "destroying their entire navy". Sounds impressive to average guy on the street.

It was Reagan, and it was Operation Praying Mantis. Brett Stephens referenced the operation earlier this year and bragged that we "destroyed half the Iranian fleet in a matter of hours." Of course, by "half the Iranian fleet," what Stephens meant was a single frigate, a single destroyer, and a couple of speedboats.

Limited wars have a sneaky way of becoming big wars. Not many people who were enthusiastic about the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars believed we'd still be bogged down in those countries 18 and 16 years later, respectively.
So if the Iranians are using the dome of Jamarkaran Mosque in Qom to call for those who want revenge, doesn't that make the mosque a military target?
Yeah, that's what America is really itching for. Another middle east war. Seriously, if Trump is a big enough moron to get sucked into a new war by the anti-Iran zealots in his national security team, then his presidency deserves to sink.
Qom has developed into a lively industrial centre owing in part to its proximity to Tehran. It is a regional centre for the distribution of petroleum and petroleum products, and a natural gas pipeline from Bandar Anzali and Tehran and a crude oil pipeline from Tehran run through Qom to the Abadan refinery on the Persian Gulf. Qom gained additional prosperity when oil was discovered at Sarajeh near the city in 1956 and a large refinery was built between Qom and Tehran.
“So if the Iranians are using the dome of Jamarkaran Mosque in Qom to call for those who want revenge, doesn't that make the mosque a military target?”
Well with that sort of thinking...
So if Trump is using the Mar A Lago to call for those who want revenge, doesn't that make the Mar A Lago a military target?
Most people who were paying attention and serious about things after 9/11 knew that we are and would be at war for the rest of our lives.
Yes, that was the "serious" conventional wisdom at the time, but there was nothing serious about it. The threat from Islamic terrorism has always been blown way out of proportion. You know how we could have very easily (and for zero money) stopped 9/11? By not giving the attackers visas to come here in the first place.
"Limited wars have a sneaky way of becoming big wars. Not many people who were enthusiastic about the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars believed we'd still be bogged down in those countries 18 and 16 years later, respectively."
True, but no serious observer believes a land war with Iran is on the table. Quite the opposite, going by Trump's own words. For a guy who's pretty level-headed about ME realities, you seem to have internalized some of the Left's most hysterical nonsense.
What would it make it serious, 50,000 100,000 dead for you.
I didn't say that the threat was not serious; I said that it was "blown way out of proportion." And as I said, a tight immigration policy would've prevented 9/11 from happening. How 100,000 troops and trillions of dollars in Iraq is supposed to protect us from a dozen and a half Saudis arriving by commercial airliners with US visas I'll never know.
“True, but no serious observer believes a land war with Iran is on the table. Quite the opposite, going by Trump's own words. For a guy who's pretty level-headed about ME realities, you seem to have internalized some of the Left's most hysterical nonsense.”
Good grief man, how many troops are in the region now within reach of Iranian weapons?
All the bitching about Hillary being a warmonger, what hypocrites you people are.
Well, Hillary is a warmonger. And even though this latest incident is a dangerous escalation of the conflict, so far nothing Trump has done on the global state has been anywhere near as foolish and destructive as the effort to pursue regime change in Libya and Syria, both loudly championed by Mrs. Clinton.

What serious observers thought in 2010 that a land war with Syria was on the table?
Two goals to deal with Iran are being implemented simultaneously.
First) Do not go into a war that invades Iran and is stuck with running the place. As Eisenhower said about Mao's China," If you defeat them what do you do with them." 10 million American Troops would be needed to occupy it.
Second) Order the Space Force to imitate Curtis LeMay and reduce Iran to bouncing rubble.
Why the experts cannot conceive of this modern realty but claim that we are stuck re-fighting Bush's 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq all over again are wishfully thinking. That's what the want. The stolen loot for the Rogue CIA guys would be beyond belief again with no audits allowed..
Hillary and obama took down allied govts and either replaced them with islamists like morsi or left them in chaos like libya.
Yep, when Arabs are actually allowed to have a say in their government, they choose Islamist governments. That's why we support authoritarian strongmen who use torture and secret police to keep a lid on civil rights or democratic activity.
Well, Hillary is a warmonger. And even though this latest incident is a dangerous escalation of the conflict, so far nothing Trump has done on the global state has been anywhere near as foolish and destructive as the effort to pursue regime change in Libya and Syria, both loudly championed by Mrs. Clinton.
Trump has matched the unilateral rhetoric for sure. I do wonder whether he factors in the fragile male egos of the Iranians and Muslims in general. Remember the guy who went postal because he heard "porn 'stache" and thought he heard "porn stash"?
"Good grief man, how many troops are in the region now within reach of Iranian weapons?"
Good grief dimwit, how much of Iran is within reach of American weapons?
Every square inch. Farmer is right about that at least. Just because the Islamic powers-that-be are perfectly cool with a few thousand jihad-happy clowns offing themselves in the service of Islamic martyr jive, doesn't mean that said powers are in any way cool with seeing their own power evaporate under a hail of American bombs.
The threat from Islamic terrorism has always been blown way out of proportion.
To realize that we will be in a state of perpetual war after over 1300 years of Islam being at war with Western civilization does not sound like blowing things out of proportion.
The strike is reported to have killed Qais Khazali, one of the people the US named as responsible for storming of US Embassy in Baghdad. Also Shibl al-Zaydi is now confirmed to have been killed. Shibl was the leader of Kata'ib al-Imam Ali or the Imam Ali Battalions.
That was fast... ELINT News @ELINTNews #BREAKING: @StateDept announces US to designate Iranian proxy force Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq in Iraq and its leaders, Qays and Laith al-Khazali as terrorists
Someone else seems to have the same idea:
An airstrike Friday hit two cars carrying members of an Iran-backed militia north of Iraq's capital, Baghdad, killing five people, an Iraqi official told The Associated Press.
The official added that the identities of those killed were not immediately known. It was not immediately clear who launched the strike, but a U.S. official told AP the attack was not an American military attack.
It was a hudna that partially ended in 1979, really with some sporadic incidences like the gia bombing in france. In the 90s. The blind sheikh tried to take down ghr towers in 93, and wreck a good chuck of urban manhattan.
"What serious observers thought in 2010 that a land war with Syria was on the table?"
It would be a stretch indeed to describe American involvement in Syria as an American "land war". Shit, we made greater exertions for the United Fruit Company.
‘Good grief dimwit, how much of Iran is within reach of American weapons?’
In what war or military action have American troops been shielded from any casualties? You are an idiot, you think Iran would just stand by and not retaliate? Send your own damn kid.
To realize that we will be in a state of perpetual war after over 1300 years of Islam being at war with Western civilization does not sound like blowing things out of proportion.
That's because your 1300 years claim is just more hysteria. And as I said, 9/11 could have been prevented by simply not giving the hijackers visas. That doesn't sound like much of a civilizational struggle to me. You want to protect us from Islamic terrorism? Don't let Islamists come here. Much simpler than trying to prop up governments in Kabul and Baghdad.
But theres always an excuse for islamist when its not palestine bosnia chechnya aceh province what have you. I think rakhine burma is the new cause celebre
That was some great work by the government. Give a known terrorist a travel visa. Then a green card. Then realize your fuckup but still let him back in the country.
Lay off our Inga. She is nice to people who are nice to her. But she knows how to pull your chain for fun of it when she sees an opening. Not everybody likes strong male know it alls.
It would be a stretch indeed to describe American involvement in Syria as an American "land war". Shit, we made greater exertions for the United Fruit Company.
Granted, "land war" is an ambiguous phrase, but you introduced it, so I thought it kind to reciprocate. My point being that nobody was seriously contemplating US forces in Syria first to try to topple Assad and then to try to defeat the Caliphate that our attempts at toppling Assad allowed to take hold. Just because there are no plans "on the table" at the moment does not mean that plans will stay off the table. We've already upped the ante by reimposing sanctions, pursuing "maximum pressure" against the Iranians, and justifying our military deployment in Iraq as an effort to contain Iran, even though our purported mission was to help Iraq defeat ISIS.
You miss the importance of symbolism Farmer. And if Iran attacks again after losing their navy there are other things they can lose.
You also always confuse withdrawal and running away. The latter is catastrophic because Islam is in a decades long civil war and the fundamentalists win points by humiliating the kuffir. We cannot win the civil war for the modernizers but we have to not give the islamists wins. We can be the strong horse and still disengage.
"In what war or military action have American troops been shielded from any casualties? You are an idiot, you think Iran would just stand by and not retaliate? Send your own damn kid."
Incoherent golden-shower hysterics. Of course there's peril for soldiers in the theater, but if you really believe America is going to send ground forces into Iran you're a bigger moron than, well, pretty much everyone, believes you are.
Trad guy, I’m not having fun or pulling anyone’s chains.
I have skin in the game, my daughter. I don’t want to turn our troops into sacrificial lambs to feed Trump’s foolish war lust or whatever he is doing with this dangerous game.
Iran has been escalating for a year now. I think they are trying to pull us into a war. Not sure why. Maybe drive US and west out of Iraq or prop up their regime.
Attacking and hijacking ships in the straits; Shooting down US drone in international airspace; Attack Saudi refinery; Middle launches at US bases; Attack US embassy.
“Incoherent golden-shower hysterics. Of course there's peril for soldiers in the theater, but if you really believe America is going to send ground forces into Iran you're a bigger moron than, well, pretty much everyone, believes you are.”
You really aren’t very intelligent are you? We have troops all over the region, Iran is next door to Iraq if you haven’t noticed. Iran can cross borders, Iran can use missiles, bombers, drones too.
And conversely you are the first to throw a brave man like chief gallagher under the bus, because he wanted fewer of men coming hom from 'green on blue'attack.
Are you claiming that Islam does not consider itself to be in a war of conquest to convert the entire world to Islam?
No, I don't believe there's a single thing called "Islam" that operates as a hive mind and has a singular belief and a singular purpose. A salafist and a sufi both practice Islam. But that said, I don't believe you will ever get a separation of church-and-state or any kind of "reformation" in Islam, because the doctrines are not just spiritual in nature but include long instructions on how to form and run a state. Christianity, in contrast, was started by a Jewish apocalyptic and then by Paul's desire to create a universal church replacing the original covenant with the redemptive power of Christ. But that's the Muslims' problem, not ours.
What is Islam's view on the status of Spain and Portugal?
Not sure how you determine what "Islam's view" is, but let's say I concede for the sake of argument that "Islam" had designs on Spain and Portugal? So what? They can want the sun and the moon, too. Doesn't mean they'll get it. And Spain and Portugal have every right to defend themselves if someone tries to take it. But do you know any Spanish or Portuguese who think they need to do nation-building in Central America to protect their territory from an Islamic takeover?
Inga said... ‘Good grief dimwit, how much of Iran is within reach of American weapons?’

Iran attacked several bases in the last month and killed an American contractor.
Iran attacked our embassy.
Obama shipped the people who did this pallets of cash and gold. Without informing congress.
Treason is an actual crime unlike the democrat's imbecilic obstruction of congress charge.
But it is clear that you are just as much an enemy of freedom as the IRGC is.
“Soleimani, the longtime commander of Iran's elite Quds Force and a revered figure in that country, largely engineered Iran's strategy of using asymmetric and paramilitary tactics to overcome its major disadvantage: Its formal military is no match for major fighting forces like the United States.
"What the Iranians have in front of them is a menu of potential routes they could take. It could be directly or indirectly," Naysan Rafati, an Iran analyst at the International Crisis Group, said.
Iran's response could take many forms, targeting U.S. individuals, assets, interests, allies or some combination. It might not be immediate and could play out in the Middle East, elsewhere or in cyberspace.
Nick Rasmussen, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center and an NBC News contributor, said Iran's overseas capabilities can be viewed as three concentric circles.
In its immediate neighborhood, Iran could put together a response almost immediately, such as this week's assault on the U.S. Embassy in Iraq. In the broader Middle East, it might take Iran more time, but its proxies could still threaten U.S. personnel, business people or tourists, Rasmussen said. In the rest of the world, including Southeast Asia and Latin America, Iran's capabilities are less advanced — but not negligible.
"The point is they're not starting from zero almost anywhere. There's always something they have, almost everywhere," Rasmussen said. "It's hard to defend against that because it could be almost anywhere."“
Iran has been escalating for a year now. I think they are trying to pull us into a war. Not sure why. Maybe drive US and west out of Iraq or prop up their regime.
I left out the part where the US withdrew from the JCPOA, put sanctions back on Iran, has attempted to prevent them from selling their oil, has implemented a "maximum pressure" campaign, has demanded their unilateral surrender, has supported anti-Iran terror groups like the MEK, has boasted about the economic damage our sanctions are doing to the country, and has justified our presence in Syria and Iraq as ways to counter Iran.
You think any of this might invite reprisals from the target country?
Wife and I were out celebrating our anniversary so missed Houston vs. Buffalo. I wonder if I saw Tom Brady's last football game. I suggest the Ravens borrow a tank from the US Army so that they can practice tackling Derrick Henry.
The point is they're not starting from zero almost anywhere. There's always something they have, almost everywhere," Rasmussen said. "It's hard to defend against that because it could be almost anywhere."“
Oh, great, another thread hijacked by the ravings of Inga and Farmer. No thanks.
Yeah, these threads are so much more interesting when its 50 comments all agreeing with each other and saying the same thing. I might be gay, but I'm no fan of circle jerks.

This person voted for Obama by the way.
Obama started at least 5 and funded everything Iran is now doing with pallets of cash and gold.
Trump has started 0 wars.
Inga and the rest of the leftists are just terrible people who lie, ignore everything they have done, and project their failures onto others.
We knew Obama was trying to get us killed every day we were over there.

Yes they strike in thailand in poland and every place in between, targeting civilians not uniformed personnel, see buenos aires. Those are who you are defending.
“Here are some potential targets for retaliation by Iran:
U.S. military assets
The United States has troops currently staged throughout the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, including in Iraq, Syria, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
Since the 1980s, Iran has armed and trained a web of Shiite militias in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and elsewhere, staging lethal attacks on American targets and allies. The proxies allow Iran to exert military and political influence at relatively low cost, while forcing adversaries to think twice before launching a direct attack on Iranian soil.
Iran wields extensive political influence in predominantly Shiite Iraq, where Soleimani's Quds Force built up and armed militias that targeted U.S. troops.
Iran's partners in Iraq could stage attacks on the 5,000 U.S. troops deployed in Iraq, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, the American consulate in the northern city of Erbil, Americans working in the oil industry or the hundreds of contractors who support U.S. troops and maintain the Baghdad Embassy compound.
US Embassies Person Gulf Us Allies American Citizens Cyber warfare”
Iran Killed An American Contractor is this week’s Remember The Alamo.
These Jagoffs in the Middle East were doing a great job killing each other after Obama pulled out of Iraq. Civil War in Syria. ISIS taking part of Iraq.
It was the Russians vs the Germans Redux.
Then Obama sends back in the troops. Just to show he was as stupid as W.
Hopefully Iraq tells us to go home. We should. And close the embassy.

Obama realized that saber rattling scared womenfolk like Inga. So to get the Iranians to shut up, he thought he could buy them off Chicago-style (he was probably advised by that Iranian cypher who was last seen living with them in DC). But that got us nowhere in the long run.
A website operated by the U.S. government has been hacked by a group claiming to represent the government of Iran.
The website operated by the little-known Federal Depository Library Program, fdlp.gov, was hacked and defaced on Saturday, and has been taken offline.
A message from the hackers left on the website read: 'in the name of god. >>>>> Hacked By Iran Cyber Security Group HackerS ... ;)<<<<<. This is only small part of Iran's cyber ability ! We're always ready.'
The FDLP is a program created to make federal government publications available to the public at no cost.
But farmer defends the bribe to kim il sung, maybe we should give iran nukes, cut out the middle man, they're entitled just like the soviets were, so much claptrap,
Cutting and pasting without attribution is slimy. As usual, claiming someone elses opinion as her own, and not realizing it doesn't mean what she thinks it means.

Idiot, the attribution is at 10:30. If you had read the article you’d know that instead of making a fool out of yourself.
Farmer left out the fact that Iran was an active combatant against US and allied forces. Iran has continuously violated the nuclear deal Obama bent over backwards to give them.
One would have thought that the caving to Iranian interests and shipping over 1 billion dollars in small unmarked bills would have bought good behavior from a sincere nation.
We turned a blind eye to all of that.
There is no doubt we have been at war with Iran for over 40 years. For the most part we just ignore them and that has gotten us nowhere.
Who knows what will happen now. There is no doubt that Trump has changed the game and Iran didn't see that coming.
No we will see their response and we will make a response to that.
That is why I said earlier, this is the election for Trump. If he screws it up he will be gone. It he puts Iran back he will reelected.
Don't forget she helped Trump get elected! She lived in a swing state and didn't vote for Hillary. If all the Green voters went for Clinton, Hillary would be president.
Well, you shouldn't be so credulous. Trump and Pompeo have been brazenly lying about Iran for years.
@Farmer, are they lying or are you the liar? From where I sit it's the latter. At any rate the past three years have been littered with "learned" critics predicting doom and disaster with everything Trump has done, all of them wrong, but only every single one of them. Perhaps you will be the first exception, but right now that does not look like the way to bet. Trump's actions have generally turned out to be right, the critics turned out to be wrong. So for no reason other than that I am willing to side with Trump, leaving out that you spread more bullshit than any dozen manure spreaders on any dozen farms.
There are no true allies, Farmer, and a few of your list were or are enemies. I’m surprised France isn’t on it, either.
I said nothing about allies or enemies. I asked how those countries managed to do business with Iran. Judging from your answer, I presume you agree with me that they do it because they see it in their national self-interest to do so. So why can't we?
She was a russian tool by her own admission, lol. There is a long historu of communists and islanist not abiding by the salt treaties non proliferation pacts what have you
They need oil largely, germany and france privided the skeleton of the civilian iranian nuclear program as the dutch aided aq khan and the canadians reputedly the indian one. Thats makes for a crowded house.
So for no reason other than that I am willing to side with Trump, leaving out that you spread more bullshit than any dozen manure spreaders on any dozen farms.
Because Trump has escalated every war he has inherited. More troops in Afghanistan, more troops in Iraq, more troops in Syria. And now troops deployed to Saudi Arabia again. Is that what he was elected for? If so, I don't recall the campaign rally where he vowed to get even more deeply involved in middle eastern wars.
Let Europe deal with these savages. They let them in by the tens of millions, anyway.
Japan and South Korea deal with Iran, and they don't have a refugee problem. Why can't we be like that? And do you consider the Iranians to be more savage than, say, the Saudis, who we do billions of dollars of business with every year?
Let Europe deal with these savages. They let them in by the tens of millions, anyway.
Islamists butcher Europeans with knives. You can't credibly say that we'd stand down and allow that to happen.
BTW, does Trump now have a portrait of Jefferson in the Oval Office where Jackson used to be? I ask b/c I believe that TJ was the first POTUS to recognize the savage nature of radical Islam.

“American military officials put the option of killing him — which they viewed as the most extreme response to recent Iranian-led violence in Iraq — on the menu they presented to President Trump.
They didn’t think he would take it. In the wars waged since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Pentagon officials have often offered improbable options to presidents to make other possibilities appear more palatable.
Aides said he worried that no response would look weak after repeated threats by the United States.
When Mr. Trump chose the option of killing General Suleimani, top military officials, flabbergasted, were immediately alarmed about the prospect of Iranian retaliatory strikes on American troops in the region.”
Bill, Republic of Texas noted: Don't forget she helped Trump get elected! She lived in a swing state and didn't vote for Hillary. If all the Green voters went for Clinton, Hillary would be president.
I didn't realize that until just now. I think I owe Inga a debt of gratitude.
This is precisely why this country is going down the toilet. We expend more energy, time, and resources fretting about the borders between Iraq and Iran, Israel and Syria, Ukraine and Russia then we do about the one between us and Mexico. Invade the world, invite the world. It's easy to get Americans pissing in their panties about phantom threats 5,000 miles away, but you can't get them to realize that they are being systemically dispossessed of the country their forefathers built. More non-whites than whites are born in the US. There are more non-whites than whites in K-12 education. Take a look at what immigration has done to California and more recently Virginia and what it is doing to Florida and Texas. Hope you like what you see in California because it's coming soon to a country near you.
“Bill, Republic of Texas noted: Don't forget she helped Trump get elected! She lived in a swing state and didn't vote for Hillary. If all the Green voters went for Clinton, Hillary would be president.”
“I didn't realize that until just now. I think I owe Inga a debt of gratitude.’
It won’t happen again. Democrats aren’t going to be voting third party this time.
I think this general was such a key guy that the idea of Iran doing immediate action is wrong. I think we have to wait for all the pieces to resort themselves. He was holding down reform in Iran and spreading war with militias who were acting on his orders and plans. Now they have to get in guys as militia leaders who will act on their own but together. I bet that most of them are more like the Dem candidate gaggle than like Suleimani and there will be co-ordination problems. Maybe nobody really knew his plans, so then what? Maybe all his militia leaders hated each other - he looked the kind of guy who'd be keeping everyone jealous and uneasy about everyone else. And then too, there might be reform in Iran and in Iraq so then these out of country militias wouldn't get paid. Or suppose you send militias out in the streets and crush the young. And then tell them to get in uniform and die for Iran or Iraq?
I sure the Iranians and their friends can throw some bombs (as they were planning to do anyhow) but the home base is not secure and the big bosses aren't agreeing. You think these volunteer troops will fight their best? Maybe they're asking about these "pallets of cash", what's that all about and why do they only get 80 dollars a month. Maybe they're whispering about Suleimani's villas
It would seem ability to "do business with Iran" is tied to the dynamic. I am not aware of "Death to France" chants. Oh, right..merely "political". Someone should have informed Soilyman

“This is precisely why this country is going down the toilet. We expend more energy, time, and resources fretting about the borders between Iraq and Iran, Israel and Syria, Ukraine and Russia then we do about the one between us and Mexico.”
Well, a war with Iran won’t be cheap. Some of the money promised for the wall may have to be diverted.
By savages, I meant the Iranians and Iraqis and Saudis and Syrians. (Not that all or most of the people there are but enough are). Honestly, the Iranians, being Persian and Shia, are a bit more civilized.
I see no reason why we are friends with the Saudis but have some huge problem with the Iranians. The Wahhabism/Salafism that Saudi Arabia exported as much as its oil is a lot worse than anything Iran did to the US.
After 9/11, it would have been much better to go into Saudi Arabia and wipe out their clerics. Kill a few princes as well to make our point clear. And pull their visas and ban them from ever immigrating time the US.
But W is a corrupt idiot. The Saudis were his people. He was much more concerned about them than Americans.
I can understand why Obama wanted some detente with Iran but he didn’t distance the US much from the Saudis either. And his blinders as to Green Energy made the Saudis and Iranians oil more valuable (and Russia). And Obama went into Libya, Syria, and back into Iraq to help out our European Friends. They want to stop the refugees coming to them by trying to stop the fighting. Instead of sinking their ships in the Mediterranean.
And Obama pushing for Refugees was fucking stupid. Same crap Clinton and W did.

The evidence edges closer and closer to a conclusion that Donald J. Trump and the Trump organization have major indebtedness to Russian interests.
The Trump tax returns may blow it all open.

My Uber driver right now is Mohammed. So hot. I sense sexual tension. Wish me luck girls.
Then we have today's Trump tweet, in which he suggests U.S. military targeting of sites in Iran including "cultural" sites.

Which would be a war crime under the U.S. Code, as well as the Hague and Geneva Conventions:

So you're saying false consciousness rules?
😉
Ken B, you liar, fuck off.
See what I mean about blood pressure?
Racist fopdoodles are a sad lot.
Just name the local full contact gymnasium where we can lower our respective blood pressures.

Yes I agree. I hope Trump's team have chosen their targets well. My own idea was maybe tell Iran that if they attack their navy has two hours to evacuate. Then sink it. All of it.

@Ken B:
Why give them 2 hours notice to prepare their defenses? Why value Iranian sailors lives over American service men?
So, both [] and Titus will be "edging" with Muslims tonight. Coincidence?
Titus better be careful our he'll get his old troll head separated from his body one day.
Russian banker vacations in Florida! Film at 11!
Maybe the Iraqis will try to kick us out and Trump will say “OK”. Or maybe Iran will attack U.S. forces and Trump will ask Congress for a declaration of war.
Wasn't the Iraqi parliament going to vote today on whether to ask us to leave?
Trump calls the Iranian's bluff and threatens a game of 52 pick up in return.
Getting out of Afghanistan:
Just march out thru Iran.
That's the comment J Farmer wants.

Correction: Per Chuck's link, Russian banker may have vacationed in Florida.
So much for a president that vowed not to start any foreign wars. And you people twist yourselves into pretzels trying to rationalize his hypocrisy. So threatening to blow up cultural sites is avoiding a full blown war? His BIG mouth has put the security of this nation at risk.
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
....targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!

What a fuck up this administration is.

Bill, Republic of Texas:

I think Bush I or Clinton sank most of the Iranian navy once because Iran keeps using their small, defensive navy to threaten the closing of the Hormuz straits.
Wta je is the modifier.
I agree we should get out of Iraq. Again. Don’t know why we went back there and into Syria. ISIS v the rest is their business.
Europe needs to say no to the refugees. If they can’t, thats their problem.
The US went back to Iraq and into Syria because of the problem of refugees flooding into Europe.
That said, I have no problem with Trump killing Iran’s General or threatening them after their outburst.
We shouldn’t be there. But it’s up to us. Not these towel head fucks.
Remember when the big deal was to hit an emptied iranian boat, in the gulf that would be a signal.
Nobody knows what Inga knows. It will all come out, along with the pee tape and Omarosas audio tapes.

Hey Inga, I guess them attacking us since 1979 was just an expression of Iran's love for us, then. They sure loved your traitorous Obama, though.
So much for a president that vowed not to start any foreign wars.
They started it. Trump has been overly patient.

Let’s see Trump’s adult sons and daughter volunteer for military service, or maybe bone spurs is genetic?
So much for a president that vowed not to start any foreign wars.
Waukesha Rose is hitting the Twitter again.

The evidence edges closer and closer to a conclusion that Donald J. Trump and the Trump organization have major indebtedness to Russian interests.
Oh brother, not this again. Give it a rest already.
That would see to be the case,
Most people who were paying attention and serious about things after 9/11 knew that we are and would be at war for the rest of our lives.
@Bill, Republic of Texas:
The Harame Motahar must be on the list.
Who wants guard duty on that joint now?
Bolton must be jizzing in his pants right now.
The mosque is slightly west of quom
Qom has developed into a lively industrial centre owing in part to its proximity to Tehran. It is a regional centre for the distribution of petroleum and petroleum products, and a natural gas pipeline from Bandar Anzali and Tehran and a crude oil pipeline from Tehran run through Qom to the Abadan refinery on the Persian Gulf. Qom gained additional prosperity when oil was discovered at Sarajeh near the city in 1956 and a large refinery was built between Qom and Tehran.
So its more like houston,
“So if the Iranians are using the dome of Jamarkaran Mosque in Qom to call for those who want revenge, doesn't that make the mosque a military target?”
Well with that sort of thinking...
So if Trump is using the Mar A Lago to call for those who want revenge, doesn't that make the Mar A Lago a military target?
@Mark:
@narciso:
If you're going to copy-and-paste from Wikipedia, you should at least give credit.
What would it make it serious, 50,000 100,000 dead for you.
All the bitching about Hillary being a warmonger, what hypocrites you people are.
Mar A Lago a military target?
Yes. As long as the CiC is present it is a command and control building and therefore a legitimate military target.
"You know how we could have very easily (and for zero money) stopped 9/11? By not giving the attackers visas to come here in the first place."
The Hawaiian judge would have nixed that.

True, but no serious observer believes a land war with Iran is on the table. Quite the opposite, going by Trump's own words. For a guy who's pretty level-headed about ME realities, you seem to have internalized some of the Left's most hysterical nonsense.
Weren't you crowing about "Trump's Benghazi" just two days ago, Inga?
“Weren't you crowing about "Trump's Benghazi" just two days ago, Inga?”
Nope.
OK, my apologies.
You kill a few cowardly butchers, that what ieds do, and everyone goes crazy, suleimani directed much of the butchery in syria too.

Quid pro Qom anyone?
All the bitching about Hillary being a warmonger, what hypocrites you people are.
Well, Hillary is a warmonger. And even though this latest incident is a dangerous escalation of the conflict, so far nothing Trump has done on the global state has been anywhere near as foolish and destructive as the effort to pursue regime change in Libya and Syria, both loudly championed by Mrs. Clinton.
Let’s see Trump’s adult sons and daughter volunteer for military service, or maybe bone spurs is genetic?
Let's hope for the sake of your children that stupidity is not genetic.

A civil war exacerbated by foreign islamists is not the same.

Yep, when Arabs are actually allowed to have a say in their government, they choose Islamist governments. That's why we support authoritarian strongmen who use torture and secret police to keep a lid on civil rights or democratic activity.

Every square inch. Farmer is right about that at least. The threat from Islamic terrorism has always been blown way out of proportion.
To realize that we will be in a state of perpetual war after over 1300 years of Islam being at war with Western civilization does not sound like blowing things out of proportion.
We arent willing to use those weapons, the iranians have np compunction, therein lies the difference.

Especially ones like Qassem Soleimani who matched words with deeds.

Do you know who Charles Martel and Vlad Tepes are?
Trad guy, I’m not having fun or pulling anyone’s chains.
I have skin in the game, my daughter. I don’t want to turn our troops into sacrificial lambs to feed Trump’s foolish war lust or whatever he is doing with this dangerous game.
"Narciso is like a human Magic 8-Ball. You shake his head and wait to see what random sentence floats to the top."
narciso wouldn't know a sentence if it bit him in the butt.
It’s a shame we don’t have any readers who know India’s history. I think there were a few skirmishes the past 1000 years.
There is also a website which has a time-elapsed map showing Islam as the greatest colonizer of all time.
I believe with dates?
Off the top of my head.
Iran has been escalating for a year now. I think they are trying to pull us into a war. Not sure why. Maybe drive US and west out of Iraq or prop up their regime.
Attacking and hijacking ships in the straits;
Shooting down US drone in international airspace;
Attack Saudi refinery;
Middle launches at US bases;
Attack US embassy.
This isn’t a game, Inga.
History has been very clear for a very long time.
This is more than a Scud hitting a camel’s butt.
Which 150 billion did a great deal to refurbish, there is no atrocity these bastards commit you wont defend,
And conversely you are the first to throw a brave man like chief gallagher under the bus, because he wanted fewer of men coming hom from 'green on blue'attack.
@Gahrie:
I'm sorry, but this is hilarious.
Narciso, when you learn how to put more than one sentence into Google Translate at a time, then let's talk.

‘Good grief dimwit, how much of Iran is within reach of American weapons?’
In what war or military action have American troops been shielded from any casualties? You are an idiot, you think Iran would just stand by and not retaliate? Send your own damn kid.
Great football tonight! Houston beats Buffalo and Tennessee topples the Pats. :-) Now let's hope for New Orleans and Seattle victories tomorrow!
Get your heads out of Trump’s ass.

Not sure how you determine what "Islam's view" is, but let's say I concede for the sake of argument that "Islam" had designs on Spain and Portugal?
Every madrassa and mosque in the world teaches that Spain and Portugal are Islamic lands occupied by Christian invaders.

Yeah, these threads are so much more interesting when its 50 comments all agreeing with each other and saying the same thing. I might be gay, but I'm no fan of circle jerks.

Let these savages kill each other.

What else have we?

Iran strikes back!

But farmer defends the bribe to kim il sung, maybe we should give iran nukes, cut out the middle man, they're entitled just like the soviets were, so much claptrap,
Narcisco,
Iran also assassinated in Tokyo in 1991 the guy who translated the Satanic Verses into Japanese.
So what? The US Military is not The Avengers.
@Seeing Red:
40 years Farmer.
Why is it that you think Russia, China, South Korea, Japan, and nearly every other major power in the world is able to do business with Iran?
Pffft Iran probably has all the info China hacked.
And the info the dem’s Pakistani computer guy has.

Why is it that you think Russia, China, South Korea, Japan, and nearly every other major power in the world is able to do business with Iran?
Because there money to be had, you missed Germany, btw.
The same reason while we support Israel, Europe supports the Palestinians.
There are no true allies, Farmer, and a few of your list were or are enemies. I’m surprised France isn’t on it, either.
They’re all willing for us to take the hits.

Most of the time, we’re just willing to pay less Danegeld.
Don’t forget, it was Germany supplying saddam’s supergun parts.
@Seeing Red:
Every country needs oil. It’s why everyone deals in the Middle East.
Let Europe deal with these savages. They let them in by the tens of millions, anyway.
@Big Mike:
@mccullough:
You can go vote for bernie or that other yutz buttigeg, how about warren, you want these locust to sell us out, you think calling yourself an ethnonationalist will save you. You're a nazi in their eyes.

Thank you for reminding me why I am opposed to settling refugees in this country.

I didn't realize that until just now. I think I owe Inga a debt of gratitude.
But since she quotes the NYT without apparent shame, I'll hold back on saying thanks.

Well, a war with Iran won’t be cheap. Some of the money promised for the wall may have to be diverted.
Farmer,
By savages, I meant the Iranians and Iraqis and Saudis and Syrians.
Column, how is grand poobah evers working out for you, he looks like death warmed over. The third times the charm i guess.
I’d be comfortable cutting a deal with Iran and letting them know we won’t stand in the way of them wiping out Saudi Arabia if they want.
Let them slug it out.
