"After witnessing his mother and brothers being shot dead, Dawna's son Devin hid his 6 other siblings in the bushes and covered them with branches to keep them safe while he went for help."

"When he took too long to return, his 9 year old sister left the remaining five to try again. Devin arrived in LaMora at 5:30 pm, 6 hours after the ambush, giving the first news anyone had heard of his and Christina's families. Devin's uncles armed themselves with guns and returned to try and find the hidden children, knowing many of them were injured. They didn't get far before realizing they would be risking death, since there had been continual shooting for hours, all over the mountains near LaMora. The group of men waited a while for reinforcements, and around 7:30, found the hidden children.... Mckenzie, the 9 year old who'd gone for help, was missing. Soldiers who'd by then arrived, and the men of LaMora and nearby towns searched for two hours in the dark until they found her around 9:30.... We lost 9 today. Right now we are waiting, for the morning, for answers, for justice."

From a Facebook post by Kendra Lee Miller, a relative of Devin Blake Langford's, linked at "Teen hid 6 siblings, walked 6 hours for help after his mom and 8 others were killed in Mexico attack" (Fox6 News).

The reporting on this story that I've been exposed to is abysmal. Lots of info about what happened and when, but no reporting as to why they were there and why they were attacked. All kinds of focus on the victims religion, but no explanation of how and why that is relevant to the incident.

Based on what we know, outrage is justified as this seems like an evil and random act.

Truly a sad story.

And today's leftists have only one problem with it: that it occurred in Mexico instead of, say, outside Dayton Ohio. Because the left is demanding unlimited, unvetted, illegal immigration that most definitely includes the cartels like this.

This kid is brave. I suspect he will be killed shortly, alas.

A true hero who secreted his family before venturing on to obtain justice and assistance alone. POTUS Trump is correct. We need to send in American troops to deal with the Mexican Army to eliminate the drug cartels. This is another war on our southern borders. We know who they are, where their money is, and who their bosses are. Target the haciendas destroying the infrastructure. Mexican politicians can help or get out of the say one way or another. Time to take back the frontera from drug running cartels and their bosses that supply drugs to our nation's drug addicts and sellers. No mercy shown or expected.

Enough....

Does it matter? While their lifestyle may not be politically congruent ("="), it may, and does, work for some men and women. That said, they should have separated Chamber, Church, Mosque, Synagogue, Temple, etc. and State, and offer civil unions to all consenting adults. Instead, they doubled-down and progressed its establishment on unprincipled ground.

Anyway, it's not just Americans that are at risk, but it is our fellow countrymen, women, and children that focus our attention. Mexicans are our next door neighbors.

These polygamists broke away from the LDS group because they still wanted to practice polygamy. Although every group has a different style, they tend to share some features. Marriage between younger girls and older men. The girls are not given a choice of who they will marry. Poverty for most people, but the leaders controlling the money. Young boys are used for child labor, and when they get to be adults are driven out so they are not marriage competition. Cousins marrying each other leading to birth defects. Polygamy as practiced by these groups is bad for children. I think all efforts should be made to stop polygamy.

The LeBaron kids are at least being raised with the world-view and the skills that may allow them to survive in a open borders, tribal polygamous society. How many teenagers north of the so-called border are ready for the what follows next Democrat presidency?

Iman said...

These folks have no association with the LDS church... they are a sect that left the established church - and the U.S. - to practice polygamy, although that practice is more the exception than the rule with the current community.

It would be refreshing not to read any "Mormon bashing" - especially after such a heinous, murderous act. Common decency would seem to demand that, but YMMV.

Ironclad said...

One wonders if and when Mexico will resort to the Phillipine solution and elect someone who will just declare the cartel members to be “outlaws” in the old sense of the word - people that can be killed without legal niceties. That includes the corrupt police and politicians that allowed the drug lords to run wild.

But now you have a nice man as President of Mexico that will end all of this with hugs. As if.

Anyway - the comments about “they deserved it” seems to be the consensus of the “elite” today too.

Iman said...

After reading more of the comments, I think I jumped the gun and my perception was wrong. My apologies.

Gordon Scott said...

The whole LeBaron clan in Mexico has a complicated history tied in with polygamy and offshoots of the main LDS church. They've been living there a long time. There is an association with the Romneys, with Mitt's dad being born in Mexico.

There is also a history of conflict with the drug militias. Apparently the drug gangs had tried to intimidate and demand bribes from the Mormon communities. In general, Mormons do not shy away from violence, and in this case they kidnapped some of the cartel people and were left alone, for a while. This informal truce seems to be ending.

In any case polygamy does not warrant sniper fire on women and children.

As a nation we need to decide if we will tolerate a hyperviolent rump narco-state on our southern border. Anyone who thinks such evil stays south of a (very porous) line is crazy. The violence and bribery is already operating in New Mexico, south Texas and southern Arizona.

Vance said...

Hah, I would love, love, love to see the outrageous outrage from the LGBT crowd if Utah and the LDS church actually armed up and took matters into their own hands.

Can you imagine the screaming over the top hysteria from "we are so persecuted!" gays if the LDS church brought back their early military prowess?

tim maguire said...

Couple this with the recent head-to-head fight between the Mexican military and the drug cartels, which the drug cartels won, and we have to wonder, how much of Mexico is the Mexican government actually in control of?

Iman said...

It is true that this kind of evil has been perpetrated on Mexico's native population for years. Perhaps this shocking incident will open some eyes and hearts. One thing is for certain: Americans who consume these substances (cocaine, heroin, meth, fentanyl, whatever is brought across our border) - whatever their station in life, need some introspection re: their morals, ethics and mental capacity. Do they wish to be associated with rape, kidnapping, torture, murder, decapitations, all in their chase of a high? If so, they will pay a heavy price, here or in the next life.

I didn't used to feel this way... I was a young adult Californian in the late 60s through the mid-70s, or put much stock in this way of thinking, but I sure as fuck do now. Things have changed. This is pure evil.

Michael K said...

George Romney, Mitt's father, was born in Mexico in a Mormon sect. My recollection is that the sect moved to Mexico to practice polygamy. I believe that it was Mitt's grandfather or perhaps great grandfather who moved there.

Does anyone know if there is any connection between Mittens and this sect? Not that Mittens was involved with them. Just curious to know if it is the same or a related sect
to the one the Romney's were in.

I've seen no mention in any of the stories, one way or the other.

John Henry, this group and George Romney aren't connected at all.

I don't actually know if these people are polygamists. Yes, they started out that way, that's why they were in Mexico, but it doesn't appear that it's still that way from the reporting I've seen. The pictures of the family and the kids do not look like Warren Jeffs style fundamentalists. One of the women is wearing a strapless dress, which doesn't fit in with a stereotypical polygamist. I think everyone should probably stop speculating.

Mexican and Central/South American gang violence already exists from Maine to Miami to Seattle to So Cal. Chicago will be Hispanic gang controlled like LA. We have SUR 13 and MVS in addition to MS-13 in our rural north Georgia community. SUR 13 members murdered a young cop here recently. I see the gang signs spray-painted on my street. I saw them ten and twenty years ago in Atlanta and Central Florida. We buried two murdered gang members at our Florida church, and their compatriots marched in formation behind the hearses, pants around their knees, exposed underpants, full-body tatoos, throwing gang signals.

In Atlanta, the Mexican gangs engaged in open warfare after New Orleans Crips were idiotically relocated to Bosnian (yes, Bosnian) and Mexican gang areas by the feds after Katrina. I worked on an ethnic gang project in Atlanta 1992. The task force had been going since the late 80's.

I cannot understand how people can walk around pretending this isn't happening.

How do so many delude themselves so thoroughly for so long about so much?

This is what Birthright Citizenship brings about. There are advantages to having US citizenship, even if you do not live in the country. And all it takes is some paperwork to have your progeny declared a citizen if they are born (and raised) abroad.

My father is from Arizona, but I was born and raised in Canada. When I was 17, he took me, my sister, and my mother to the US Consulate in Calgary, and we were sworn in. My younger sister and I sailed through. It took a little more time for my mom (whose mother was an American citizen as well, but moved to Canada). I've lived more of my life in the US, but I'll cop to some divided loyalties. I can understand why any country would want to eliminate dual-citizenship.

They're good people......Here's how the issue will be resolved: Most will move back to the states. Survival takes precedence over other concerns especially when your kids lives are at stake......They are victims but Mormons don't qualify for martyr status. It's not ethnic cleansing if it involves Palestinian Christians, white farmers in SA, Volga Germans, or Chinese Muslims.....I suppose the cartels will take over the avocado farms and do a whiz bang job at raising avocados so it's all good.

For those asking:

Before the “mainstream” Mormon church finally gave up polygamy, there was some ambiguity from church leadership as to whether polygamy could/should be practiced by Mormons living outside the US; and a couple dozen polygamous Mormon “colonies” were established in both Mexico and Canada. By the early 1900s the church had unequivocally condemned polygamy. When Pancho Villa began his raids, the Mormons in northern Mexico were instructed by church leadership to either fall back into one of two largest colonies (Colonia Juarez or Colonia Dublán—George Romney was born in Dublán), or else return to Utah.

Around the 1930s-50s various Mormon splinter groups began trying to resurrect the practice of polygamy. The church excommunicated them and often cooperated with federal authorities in their prosecution. Many of those new polygamists left the US and set up new colonies in Mexico and/or Canada; and their offspring are still there today as dual US/Mexican citizens. Often they maintain extended family connections back in Utah or Arizona. That includes the La Mora colony, where these victims lived.

Generally speaking, these “new” colonies have had no communion with the church leadership in Salt Lake for nearly three generations now; whereas Mormons in Juarez and Dublán (including the Romneys) are still considered to be in full fellowship with the church.

From the zoological definition, polygamy is perfectly legal in the US. If you want 5 "wives" living with you, and you find five women to agree to it, then you can do it since it isn't illegal to live with 5 women and have children with all five- the relationships just won't be legally defined as marriages with respect to the law.

Mexico has strict gun control laws- far stricter than the US. I suppose the Mexicans could just ban guns- that would clearly work.
