"At the same moment she put her birth control on full display — and as other users posted comments such as 'yeetus the fetus,' meaning to get an abortion..."

"... the abortion debate was raging across the country. 'I was thinking while I was making it, "Do I want to post this?" Because it is a controversial thing,' she says. 'But I think that birth control is being normalized with teenagers, so I didn’t think it would be a big deal.... I think it’s definitely cool that one girl can do something, and then all these other girls see it, and it’s normalized...'... The story of this particular viral video... showcases young women in all their random, irreverent, teenage glory... It’s no wonder TikTok is wildly popular amongst Gen-Z’ers, given their inclination toward humor...Videos such as Bass’s show that they’re creative; they’re politically aware; they’ve got a sense of humor: "When I watched the video, I thought, "Gosh, this just totally encapsulates what Generation Z is."'"

From "TikTok is a wildly popular app among teenage girls. Here’s how one 15-year-old’s birth control video went viral/Ava Bass wasn’t expecting the video of her pill case to garner more than 2 million views — but its success encapsulates much about Generation Z" (at WaPo's The Lily).

Here's the video, showing the creation of an image of a woman throwing a swaddled infant away.

The image decorates a birth-control-pill package, so it represents the rejecting of the idea of having a baby, not the abuse of a living child. But it did cause commenters to write "yeetus the fetus," which is a crude (and new to me) expression of enthusiasm for abortion.

Yeet = Urban slang for 'throw'

For a more recent example see the recent naming contest for the new Hi-Point 9mm to be named the YC9 ('Yeet Cannon 9').

Just don't say the TikTok video music or the pistol are aimed at a certain demographic;)

I disagree. The image is one of throwing away an already-born swaddled baby. If it were rejecting the idea of having a baby, it would be a thought bubble of throwing one away.

expression of enthusiasm for abortion

...which undermines the rationale for the ruling in Roe v. Wade.

All the normalizing and making abortion into a thoughtless exercise is what should be the catalyst to revisit the ruling.

Fortunately, not all teens and young adult women are as callous as that. But leave it to WaPo and Althouse to find some. Good click-bait.

Google works with the Chinese government.

Google will not with the US Army.

We see you.

Yes, but is he sponge-worthy? Pills are cheap. Although, there is evidence that the "cocktail" is fleecing women with progressive prices (PP).

That said, first, came choice. Second, came choice. Then, Stork delivers baby. Third, came choice. Finally, the Choice, the judgment, the sentence: sequester or recycle.

Gen Z: Clone-like in their thinking, and not very smart. And in the end, they'll not make enough of themselves to keep it all going. They'll be sitting there at age 50 thinking...what did we do? What the fuck? Then fade to black.

Funny thing about population replacement rates. Once you get too far behind, you probably won't catch up.

But at least they have TikTok. This month. Next month, something else. I sure hope that's enough.

What the hell is a 15 year old doing on birth control?

Yeet Cannon 9

This is what happens when you let the internet name your product. (I think it's a great name.)

Thank you Mr Wibble at 5:58 for the appropriate question. There are those who believe that 15 year olds should have the vote. And there are those who believe that 15 year olds and younger have all the maturity needed to decide whether or not to alter their genitalia. I was 15 once. And I messed up. But I messed up in a well constrained social environment designed for 15 year olds who mess up. (See how with my maturity I was able to make my point without using the f-word?)

I know some moms that put their daughters on birth control at 15 (or thereabouts) without telling dad with the idea that the daughter is going to have sex and let's not have a grandchild yet.

THEOLDMAN

I personally know girls that were having sex as freshmen in high school back in the 70s. Condoms were in vogue for some. The others just played baby roulette. Clinton had not yet made oral sex a thing.

One can search for a People magazine story about Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith from the 1970s. Griffith had just turned 18, but the had been living together since she was 14. Griffith's mother, Tippi Hendren, had met Johnson (age 19 or 20) on a movie set, and had felicitated the living arrangements.

Griffith claims to have been a virgin when she met Johnson, but says many of her friends had already had abortions by 14.

This whole thing was uncontroversial enough that it was published in the most milquetoast of gossip magazines, without comment or condemnation. Things were different then.

Generation Z is so urbane and yesteryear. How very green. Such as "Planned Child (PC)", meaning elective abortion and possibly clinical cannibalism, reduce, and recycle. Just do what feels good. And Trust in Stork.

Renee said...

Something is off when a mother puts her daughter on birth control. I mean at least with condoms, the empowerment to make the decision is ultimately with the young woman to find mutual agreement with her partner and put it on. . Insisting you daughter get an IUD/implant implies your daughter is an imbecile and incapable of making her own decisions.

Ugh.

And this makes me more determined than ever to set up my estate (minimal as it may be) to protect my kids - and maybe their kids (if I'm blessed with grandchildren). This just isn't end well for the USA.

After that - le deluge.

Hopefully not getting pregnant.

You people grow up in a magical world with no hard decisions. Many girls have no dad or wish they had no dad.

Young people do stupid things. It is what they do and what they have always done. Teen pregnancy rates are lower than they have ever been.

This is a far better outcome than a shotgun wedding. Or an abortion.

Ah, I know I could not understand it in 1965 when I was 14, and I could barely understand movies at all.

Perhaps Melanie Griffith’s mother recognized she was a cinematic genius and ready to move on?

Bill Peschel said...

This is what you get when you live in a world that rejects the idea of abstinence. That treats sex as a toy. That ignores that sex can bond you to that other person, and being rejected afterwards has emotional consequences. That's sad.

mtrobertslaw said...

When young girls are encouraged to think of an unborn child as an "intruder", why should anybody be surprised by common use of "yeetus the fetus"? Words have consequences.
