Nice photograph at
"Trump climbed into a sumo ring to present a 60-pound trophy in gilded manifestation of Japan trip" at The Washington Post which seems willing to have fun with the erstwhile monster Trump:
Trump forwent the traditional samurai-style topknot in favor of his routine orange coif, and he sported a dark suit and pink tie in place of the thong-like mawashi — or loincloth — that the Japanese wrestlers wear.
Then there's the whole "respect the cushion" controversy:
Some were annoyed that Trump and his wife, Melania... were allowed to sit in chairs close to the ring. Normally, attendees on the lower levels sit on cushions, called zabutons, and VIPs opt for seats on the second floor designed specifically for them....
“He’s a crazy guy, yeah?” said Ryugo Kato, 45, a salaryman in Tokyo. Kato said he thought Trump should have sat on the floor if he wanted to be close to the ring. “That’s the way this place is set up,” Kato said. “He should respect the custom. It’s the culture.”

That’s awesome. The WP and the Golden Shower Left aside, people love this shit.
Trump weighs 243 not the champ.
Although the golfing shots suggest Trump way past 243 today.
I watched the opening of CBS Sunday Morning for the first time in a long time this morning. I loved that show for years but not in many years. Jane Pauley, in the opening rundown, mentioned that Trump was in Japan and that he attended a Sumo match and that was the only thing that she mentioned about the trip. I wondered out loud to my wife whether that was the most significant meeting he had yesterday. Of course it wasn't; it was merely the easiest incident in which to mock him. I turned the channel. Same shit; different day.
readering is an expert at guessing weight. You could make a living at that, probably.
WaPoo got the snark in the second paragraph
Lots of big men rolling through DC on motorcycles live on CSPAN now. It's been on for an hour. They are either circling around or one hell of a large Viet Nam Vets showed up.
"readering is an expert at guessing weight."
@readering, any clue as to Trump nemesis Nadler might tip the scales at? (Of course, this assumes Nadler could stay up long enough for you to get a visual.)
CBS - Keep pounding those nails in your political coffin. You might learn something from CNN...
Oh, well- they can put the chair offense in the articles of impeachment.
Everything you need to know about the WP is summed up in the throwaway insult that serving him hamburgers for lunch was consistent with Trump's 'generally bland taste.'
Insulting Trump for eating hamburgers on Memorial Day Weekend. That's got to feel so good to WP readers.
For comparison the wrestler is listed at 390.
He lifted that 60 pounds pretty easy. It’s not a lot of weight but it’s not insignificant either.
It seems some Japanese hoi polloi are much aware about their customs, but not about diplomatic protocol. Mainly par. 3 pkt. b
"800-pound gorilla sits where and how he damn likes"
In sumo wrestling - can you technically "grab pussy" ?
Retracted testicles - legend or truth?
It's really good they found someone to criticize Trump as he gets along with other world leaders in other countries. I mean, we simply can't have that go unchecked.
he thought Trump should have sat on the floor if he wanted to be close to the ring. “That’s the way this place is set up,” Kato said. “He should respect the custom. It’s the culture.”
Secret Service: Nope
But wouldn't sitting on cushions have been cultural appropriation? I'm sure that's why he went for the chair - so as not to offend. (Understanding this woke stuff is so damn hard.)
Do you think that he demanded the chairs or that his hosts did the chairs?
Could have the Great One Obama even climbed into the ring let alone lift the trophy?

Might be
Patriot Guard, since the Left is comprised of people like Robert Cook, who think our fallen are "parasites", and it's Memorial Day tomorrow. The motorcycle club attends funerals of our soldiers that are being protested and heckled by the Left, they shield the grieving families from the Marxist Scum and make Antifa soil their shorts.
Good men. We don't make them anymore.
CBS Face of the Nation didn't go into the trip. Our relations with Japan are unimportant to them. What is important was talking to a former CIA Director (Republican) and asking him if he was "Concerned" that Barr would disclose vital secret information. Who EXACTLY was "Concerned" was never stated. The CBS host also implied Trump was posting a doctored Video of Pelosi, which he didn't - and CBS KNEW Trump didn't. So they did this sneaky trick:
Reporter: There's a doctor video of Pelosi going around are the Russians involved?
{Insert Five minute Discussion of Pelosi doctored video and doctored video}
Reporter: So, do you approve of Trump's part in this?
Thereby, making it seem to anyone who doesn't know the facts that Trump posted a DOCTORED VIEDO and not the true one. The MSM are complete LIARS.
What's the difference between "respecting the culture" and "cultural appropriation"? Isn't it just a matter of which is more politically useful to the accuser?
Washington Nationals have a youth academy and there's nice recent video of the Great One visiting, playing in a game and also throwing a football.
Some were annoyed,,,,,
Yeah, whenever I see "some were" annoyed, concerned, afraid, conflicted, distress, worried etc.etc, I naturally assume "some were not" annoyed, concerned, afraid, conflicted, distressed, worried, etc.etc,
The Washington Poo is hilarious in its own way, "Trump took in just five matches — some lasting but several seconds —". Yeah, yeah, and sat in a chair, undercut his NSC adviser, and misspelled a rival's name. Oh, and he weighs 243 pounds. Hey, fat shaming much. Personally, I'm impressed that he accomplished so much in just one day :)
60lb trophies are an odd weight to try to move. So, good for President Trump.
Love to see the previous Oval Office occupant, or his wife, or any of the current crop of Dem(on) candidates try to lift and present such an awkward weight.
Or most reporters.
Good men. We don't make them anymore.
@Fen, you need to meet some of the young men and women who wear this country’s uniform today. They’re good.
Mike, you're right, I shouldn't have thought that. I know better. My apologies.
Hey, Kato, fire up the Black Beauty and stop worrying about the large white guy
When Japan's Emperor attends a sumo match, does he sit on a cushion?
Here's a photo that shows plush chairs behind him and his wife at a tournament:

Better file this "controversy" under "Trump Hatred Example 2,978,568".
Do the Japanese miss looking up Obama's nostrils? I wonder.
Reread article on seating arrangements at sumo matches.
Hey Western knee and hip joints weren't meant for Japanese cushions. I've had a couple of meetings with traditional Japanese farmers on traditional seating. The things one does whilst trying to settle a dispute! The food was good, the tradition of pouring your neighbor's beer or sake as the case may be was interesting--and the pain of the seating was terrible.
Good for the Trumpster. He needs to be able to walk after seeing the match.
Chair Privilege!
Beans beat me to it: none of Trump's opponents can heft a 60 lb trophy. None.
Reported POTUS needed help lifting the trophy. Maybe given help he didn't need.
FLOTUS barred by tradition from entering ring. Boycott!
Here's another pic of a sumo tournament. Note the folding chairs in the background:

It's Fake News all the way down.
The WaPost sucks. These articles are just opportunities for embittered pseudo journalists to take a few potshots at Trump. They can't help it

Ya know what would be funny, and a perfect trumperism? Trump practicing freethrows in secret, then "spontaneously" being onsite and sinking a couple during NBA championship half time..SWISH
It's pretty obvious that the chairs were provided by the hosts.
On the other hand, what else does WaPoo have to write about ?
He could sumo wrestle fatty Kim. Winner takes all.
OK, I watched the vid AA linked to. Surely I am not alone in expecting Trump to WWE that sumo guy and bodyslam him?
What a dis-appointment.
Trump is finally in a forum with his peers--hard to make school ground taunts here.
Readering,
There is video here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJk9T3QDf70
2 hefty Japanese guys carried the trophy out, and put it on a table, about waist high. The handles on the cup were about head high on PDJT.
He grabbed it by the waist and a Japanese official helped steady, lift it.
Given the height of the trophy, 4-5' it looked topheavy, hard to grip and cumbersome in addition to the weight.
PDJT seemed to handle it pretty well.
Not many people 20 years younger could have done as well.

Apparently still right on schedule for 2026-2028 as SecTreas Lew said in 2016.
But WaPo is making a big deal of it taking too long. Because, you know, "Orange Man Racist".
If today's Drudge headline is true, we are lucky he didn't propose MLK's picture.

Call this seating "controversy" Lefty Koi Lies 2.

Btw, did readering ever admit he/she got that so fundamentally backwards?

True.
Champions and winners, especially those who have overcome significant obstacles to achieve those victories, always have a measure of respect for each other.
For instance, we now know the entire leadership of all govt agencies under obama conspired with foreign powers to frame and undermine the Trump campaign and Presidency, yet Trump prevailed by fighting back against this greatest political corruption in our nations history.
Cant wait to see more details from Barr and his team.

I think we ought to give more credit to those handlers who caught that pant-suited sack of collapsing meat named Hillary and tossed her like a sack of potatoes into the SUV after she collapsed from having to deal with average lefties who forgot you are not allowed to make eye-contact with the Putin-pal-colluding-Maoist fashionista girl Hillary.
Alas.
Poor Hillary.
If only she had been performing that "rigorous" and patented Ruth Bader Ginsburg-SEAL Team 6 Workout.

Kind of off topic here but I would remind everyone who Bill Browder's grandfather was.
He was Stalin's right hand man in the USA for 20-30 years.
Bill's father was born in Moscow. His mother was a native of St Petersberg (Leningrad at the time)
Bill Browder is interesting because he claims not to have any communist/stalinist sympathy. Yet instead of doing business anywhere else in the world he runs a financial business based in Russia. Trading on grandpa's connections?
He also gave up his US citizenship. That, among other things, protects him against being charged with treason against the US. Not the reason he did it, perhaps, but it still protects him.
A very shady character. I would take anthing he says with a large grain of salt.

And he apprenticed under Edmund safra a very unscrupulous banker. Who died under mysterious circumstances in 1999.

Also off topic but I would remind everyone who the biggest financial backer of Al Gore Sr happened to be: Armand Hammer of Occidental Petroleum, bestest buddy of the Soviets looking to gain influence in the west.
Not to mention the Kennedy family relationship with the Venezuelan commie regimes in providing "free" oil for distribution via the Kennedy family slush fund operation known as Citizens Energy Corp.
Just your typical commie regime providing resources that the Kennedy's can dole out for political credit while kicking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary to the Kennedy clan directly. And any thought that the commies were getting some influence from that in our govt?
Pshaw!! Perish the thought.
Likewise the $1.5 BILLION in loans the commie Chinese gave to Bidens cocaine-addled sister-in-law affair-doinking moron son.
All on the up and up, I assure you.
How do you think the Clintons spent that direct payment of $500,000 from Putin oligarch pals to Billy boy?
Talk about lifting a trophy!!....

Well played, sir.
Mind you all this Fake Lefty/LLR News kerfuffle occurs on the same day that Time Correspondent simply made up a Trump quote out of thin air and the entirety of the left/LLR-left/Fake News MSM retweeted it around the world thousands of times.
And not a single one of them has apologized even after this Ian Bremmer jerk (who laughed about his fake quote) admitted it was fake.
Not a single one.
But its Trump breaking all the "norms".

A salaryman? Why should we care what he thinks?
I think that the contrast between Obama and Trump is interesting. Obama seemed to only relate to other heads of state/govt formally. Trump though seems to go out of his way to build personal relations with such. What is better, Obama’s bows, or Trump doing in Japan what the Japanese do? It’s like taking foreigners to baseball games, or, in the case of Trump, taking them golfing at his golf course.
We've talked about the Gab alternative to Twitter. We talked about their Dissenter extension that allows open commenting on any website.
I've fooled with both but not very much.
Now the same folks have developed a free speech browser also called Dissenter.
I've been playing with it for the past few hours, blazing fast compared to Firefox and Chrome.
It is based on the same open source as Chrome and Brave.
I'm liking it a lot. It seems to use a lot less resources than Firefox.

And Bart Starr died, in case it hasn't been mentioned before.
I'm glad Bruce Hayden mentioned (4:17 pm) Trump's little duck of the head, and distinguished it from Obama's bows to foreign potentates.
I don't know if Trump has done business in Japan, or visited there. In all the videos I've seen of him in foreign lands, he's seemed "comfortable, but American".

Gone unnoticed by the MSM is how Trump has rebuilt a unified front and sense of purpose with our allies in Asia. Could you imagine with that warmonger Hillary in power? We would definitely be in a shooting war by now with the Norks. We really dodged a bullet when that chardonnay addled drunkard lost.
John Henry-
Well, with the first few pages opened up- Dissenter appears to be much faster.
Beans beat me to it: none of Trump's opponents can heft a 60 lb trophy. None.
Maybe not, but some of his predecessors probably could have. Gerry Ford looked pretty strong, and Reagan was known to have gained a lot of strength pumping iron after taking office. I suspect Eisenhower kept in pretty good shape as a retired military officer. And I seem to recall that Lincoln was said to be surprisingly strong, supposedly due to all that rail-splitting. (Churchill, on the other hand, only split infinitives.)
"What's the difference between "respecting the culture" and "cultural appropriation"? Isn't it just a matter of which is more politically useful to the accuser?"
Exactly, and isn't it a GOOD thing to allow someone from a different culture, maybe someone whose knees are old, to sit in a chair? It's "offensive" when Westerners don't accommodate those from other cultures, and when Westerners don't accommodate themselves to other cultures. Always punch up.
Don't be myopic, Gk1. Churchill was energetic and spry until great old age, and exhausted much younger men who tried to keep up.
Ike had a football knee and smoked like a fiend.
Lincoln of course was a farmboy and flatboat hand; strong would go with the job descriptions but he was also a wrestler of some note, I read.
Narr
George Washington was too weak to crack a smile
I finally watched the video of the cup ceremony. WTF. Another guy lifted the cup with POTUS and never let go until it was received by the champion. For all I could tell POTUS was like an honorary pall bearer bearing little of the weight! Not that I hold it against a guy in his seventies jet lagged from a a flight half-way round the world. But I also note that at 62 I regularly lug suitcases weighing 50lbs plus or minus (airline economy class limit, depending how strict they are). The idea that the other presidential candidates could not lift a 60lb cup off a table (excepting women and septuagenarians) is ludicrous. (To use a favorite adjective these days.)
