There is lots of talk about how Chris Wallace shredded Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Fox News Sunday this morning. It's my favorite Sunday show, and Chris Wallace is among my favorites (in a diminishing number) on FNC.
He certainly asked her some questions that put her on the spot; questions for which she had no good answer as with the concocted number of 4000 "individuals that came across our southern border" were stopped as being known or suspected terrorists. It is a wholly untrue claim of course, that even the Administration won't back up in any detail.
I thought that Chris Wallace was actually kind to her under the circumstances. It is always a fine line, between using an interview to cross-examine someone who may be lying, and using an interview to fully expose someone's answers, so that other fact-checkers might later do their own examination.

Earlier this month, a university educator told the Madison Board of Education why things like civility, time limits and mowing your lawn indicates you are racist.
Seriously, I truly wonder how someone completed higher education courses and is teaching students with this kind of mental defect in their thinking.
The University of Wisconsin - Madison "educator" said that she teaches her students the alleged "connection" between white liberalism and white supremacy.
In doing so, she sought to provide "working definitions."
According to this "enlightened" individual, "white liberalism" means "valuing law and order and protocol above the lives of people."
...Some of what she claims is white liberalism are things like a "timer" and the calls to "please finish up" when someone's time is up. Other things include numbers, the sign up process, the stage, the barrier.
"All of these signs suggest that the law and the decorum and the civility of this conversation is actually more important than what is being said," this white "educator pontificated.
Mueller, who fought in Vietnam, will - if the poor little man succeeds in his nasty desire to do as much harm to this country and to the good people in it, who thought they were voting for a President, not for a guy who would be an immediate target of a SWAMP - if the poor little man does as much harm as he wants to (he has already done more than enough harm, he is not an honest dealer) - he will be as widely criticized and despised as Joe McCarthy, who fought in WWII, and we all need to hope that the poor little man (Mueller) fails in his Howard Hughes level of prosecutorial viciousness, because this country will be a better country if Mueller is a footnote, in the future, rather than a McCarthy level object of derision by hoi polloi of the future.

The fuss about "the Wall" is like shadow boxing behind a screen and you wonder why neither party will call out what the issues really are.
The problem is on this side of the border. This alien invasion is being organized and financed from within this country - and not particularly by "Latinos," I think.
If existing laws against employing illegal aliens and against expending welfare funds on non-citizens, whether here illegally or not, were enforced as they should be until such time as Congress may see fit to make changes in the laws, there would be no illegal alien problem to be solved.
I suspect that the motive for not enforcing the existing laws, or making any effort to changing them by legislation, is as much a general attack on the Constitution as anything else.
Every year I try to find a new Christmas Carol or new Christmas music to add to one of the few (finite) pleasures of my life in this world...
a deep understanding of how beautiful the Christmas season, my favorite season, is.
Today, the Epiphany (a totally Christmas type of day, in my church at mass this afternoon the first reading, from Isaiah, was about the STAR IN THE NIGHT that the so-called wise men saw, and you can't get any more Christmassy than the STAR OVER BETHLEHEM), today, the 12th day of Christmas, I heard a song I have never heard before and which was so wonderful that I want to share it with you
It has a title that is not all that inviting "AS WITH GLADNESS MEN OF OLD" it is really good, though, the words, by William Chatterton Dix, are Keats-level, or Tolkien-leve, and the music is superb
Cuban cigar superb from back in the days when Cuban cigars were clearly the best
I am in Tucson vacationing and hiking and am surprised at how few people discuss the need for a border wall or complain about illegal immigrants. They do talk about the Great hiking trails and the best Sushi restaurant this side of San Diego.

Any mention of a political subject in public nowadays subjects one to the risk of being assaulted by leftist retards. You can't even wear a hat that advocates making America great. A patriotic bumper sticker gets your car keyed.
I am not at all surprised that few people talk about border walls and illegal immigrants.
TUCSON, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Officials say one Border Patrol agent was hospitalized after multiple agents were assaulted by illegal immigrants near Tucson.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a 25-year-old Guatemalan national was arrested after he threw dirt in an agent's face and tried to assault an agent by swinging his belt on November 27.
Officials say the suspect will face charges for assaulting a federal agent.
The agents were trying to stop a human smuggling attempt south of Three Points. Three other men, including a Mexican and Guatemalan national and Arizona man, were also arrested.
Later that day, another Border Patrol agent was assaulted while trying to arrest an illegal immigrant. Officials say the agent, along with a K-9, tracked the 36-year-old suspect to a remote desert area where the suspect struck the agent several times.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody by the agent. The agent was taken to a hospital for evaluation and has been released.
This suspect will also face charges for assaulting a federal agent.

LUKEVILLE, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Ajo Station Border Patrol agents patrolling near the Lukeville Port of Entry, 148 miles southwest of Tucson, encountered two large groups totaling 264 adults and children within the last two days.
BP agents encountered the first group of 164 people on Tuesday afternoon and the second group of 100 people on Wednesday in the same general location where the first group was found.
Both groups consisted of family units and unaccompanied juveniles from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, ranging in age from 11 months to 59 years.
Agents transported the groups, found to be in good health, to the Ajo Border Patrol Station to be processed for immigration violations.
In the last three months agents have arrested over 1,200 people, in similar group sizes, within the same general vicinity.
there are few bad people in the Bible who wanted to be as BAD as they are now thought of , each of them were little babies once, with mothers who loved them, and were beautiful, often (Herod's mother, for example, probably looked A LOT more like Aubrey Hepburn than I do ... word)
all of us are CAPABLE Of praying for other people.
At 7:38 PM you said "Jesus reproaches his audience for blaming the death of certain parties for (I think you meant to say on) there sins"
I remember the response Jesus made when the disciples were talking about the Israelites who died when the tower fell on them ....
they said it was punishment for their sins
he mildly disagreed
I know something Jesus knew, and that not many people know.
all of us are CAPABLE Of praying for other people.
Listen: pray for Judas if you want. Not a good guy, of course, but his parents loved him, and NOTHING in the Bible tells us our prayers for him might not be effective, after all, he once was a good friend of Jesus, as were you, I hope. And he left everything , family, possessions, his place in his home town, to follow Jesus, and that is not nothing.
It is no small thing to be a friend to a creature who never had a friend in this world.
November 11, 2018 4:24 pm Bears kicker somehow manages to hit the upright four times in one game
Oops. The kicker hit the upright and crossbar."
"This is Chicago Bears kicker Cody Parkey hitting the upright not once, not twice, not thrice but FOUR times. In a single game. And NONE of them ricocheted fortuitously so as to accumulate points. Every single one doinked and went the wrong way..."
"...Parkey had been perfect on 28 extra point attempts this year, and made 13 of 16 field goals prior to today. So this isn’t the culmination of specific struggles. And it’s probably just a total and inexplicable fluke."
After that debacle, Bears rookie head coach made a big mistake not bringing in and hiring one of the more promising unemployed kickers (of which there are many) in a tryout kicking competition.
It's probably a pretty safe bet that Mr. Parkey won't be the Bears' kicker in the 2019 NFL season.
Host Leland Vittert asked, “[T]he positions of the White House may be a little bit all over the place, but Nancy Pelosi says not one dollar for the wall, and calls a wall immoral. So, if you’ve got leadership saying something’s immoral, how’s that negotiating in good faith?”
Yarmuth said, "Well, she's willing to negotiate. You don't negotiate in the media. You take your position."
Wait wut? Is Pelosi lying in simple declarative sentences?
The focus was on repentance, without which we would all perish. Our pastor expounded on what has been added to the story, as opposed to what is sometimes missed.
This one is for Mr Meade: How is the House Avocado managing indoors? I brought my two in (same size as yours), but they are losing their leaves. This happened last year, so come good weather, transferred both to larger pots with better drainage. Hoping that this is a light, rather than blight problem. I keep them under the skylights, but can do better, if necessary.
Also, any insights on Winter Gardens in Northern climes? I like a good salad om my Bleak Midwinter Birthday (not far from your Fair Half's). Up until the past couple years ago, could harvest baby kale or mustard from the porch containers. This year, am attempting indoors in the same space as where the outdoor stuff winters.

there are some people who are innocent Not many, but a few.
Your pastor probably does not know that, but he sounds like a good egg anyway
Large majorities say border security is a problem, but none in the lefty retreats R/V consents to patronize, how many people do you think he met that struggle to get by? How many people do you think that he met who are not protected from competition with illegal immigrant scabs on wages, working conditions, and benefits?
All R/V sees are blindly loyal Democrat votes pouring in, so consequences don't matter. He learned about will to power reading Nietzsche in his book club of super intelligent geniuses.
I see that the Oscars are determined to make their microphone a "safe place" from which movie stars can spew politically correct opinions, just don't say anything that they don't like and you can keep your career, but, wink, wink, you can say whatever you want about Trump as long as it helps Democrats!
A blog could be all audio. Even if we write what we say. A computer could put it into audio using samples of our voices. Then I could work while consuming the delicious commentary.

People don't talk about immigration much in private, becuase it's a touchy subject, especially in border states. It is much more common when you are around those who all know they feel the same about it. I have friends on both sides of the issue, and I see this dynamic first hand.
I take both sides in the argument usually in disagreement with who ever I'm with. I do truely see both sides to some degree. I have conservative friends, but I also have lots of hispanic friends who don't all agree on the subject. Those who went the lengthy legal process to be citizens almost all disagree with illegal immigration. I also have close friends who are illegal, and have known some for decades. They don't make good arguments for it, but they really want what they have here, and seem to love the country. They really wish they were legal, but see no way to get there now. I have one very close friend who is illegal, and has been here for over 20 years. He has an American born wife and three kids in high school who he sends to private school using every penny he makes. He pays his taxes, and never took a penny of assistance from the taxpayers while working nonstop since he's been here. He is giving up. He is moving back to Mexico later this year. He has property there. He hopes it will be the first step on his path back here legally some day.
if you knew me, with all my faults (rudeness in the past, sloth, laziness) AND failure to plainly state to people who were cruel to me or rude to people I loved - most of them now dead, for the record, and almost all of them old and infirm and, young people don't know this, but I do, the people who were unkind to me in those long gone years are, unfortunately (I want them to be happy and healthy, and I want them to love God) are ALL constantly assailed with physical pain or fear of pain (except for those who are on their way to being saints) , and EVERYONE WHO WAS rude to people I cared about, back when I was young and did not pray with intense love for those WHO HAVE LITTLE LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS and THOSE WHO HAVE LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS who were cruel to me, all those people from the years when I did not pray for the people who did not recognize that CRUELTY IS ALWAYS WRONG .....
if you knew me with all my faults and then you heard me talk about how I prayed for the tens of thousands of people I, a portrait artist at heart, have met and HAVE REMEMBERED for all these years in this little life I have lived in this very big world
if you agreed with me that yes, I have spent an awful lot of time praying for people who are now dead

Thanks for reading, God loves you more than God loves me. I am totally cool with that
What are you talking about Chuck? I was referring to a statement made in The Hollywood Reporter about the Oscars. Is your little snowflake heart worried that somebody might get that confused with the show on tonight that you are probably watching for the Trump bashing by good looking airheads, that I am only aware of due to promos during the football game?
King Lear is kind of a downer. Maybe if they had a production where Anna Kendrick could play Cordelia it would lighten the load a bit. Put a little whimsy in the death scene. Or maybe she could play Goneril and add a romcom vibe to Goneril's flirtation with Edmund. That play is way too heavy as written.

"World's most dominant athlete is 23 years old -- and getting better..." (w/pic of actressy-looking woman)
The story is no longer on Drudge's front page, so I'm going to guess this is about Mikaela Shiffrin? Leaving aside whether you think a skier can be the world's most dominant athlete, let's just compare Shiffrin to Marcel Hirscher, shall we?
Shiffrin: Three straight World Cup overall titles, 52 wins, 73 podiums. Hirscher: EIGHT straight World Cup overall titles, 64 wins, 130 podiums.
And is it even worth adding that of course if they raced against each other on the same courses, it would be no contest?
"World's most dominant athlete is 23 years old -- and getting better..."
I hope Mikaela Shiffrin enjoys it while it lasts. Soon enough women's skiing will be dominated by men (complete to penis and testicles) who "identify as a woman" will be dominating the sport.
I was ready to argue for Katie Ledecky as more dominant, if only because she is a favorite in every freestyle distance from 200 m to 1500 m, but Shiffrin is good at all six alpine disciplines, so hats off to her.
We hosted a "Twelfth Night" party today, about two dozen people. No one said word one about the border wall or Trump or the government shut-down. People talked about their children and grandchildren, recent travels, books we'd read, good shows on Netflix, and stuff like that. That's what the real world is like.

"That's because the whole problem has been overblown for political purposes"
It's pretty simple math, and the numbers show very serious problems, especially in border states: Crime, jobs, wage deflation, overburdened schools that can no longer educate, over taxed health care that is no longer affordable, and a population that sucks up government assistance at percentages nearly triple that of the citizens who pay for it. It's not only a real problem, but a very serious and ubiquitous one that negatively affects our nation more than probably anything other than leftism itself, which feeds and exacerbates it in a cruel corrupt symbiosis of theft.

I'm reading a real good non-fiction book, "Operation Solo" by John Barron.
Basically, the No. 2 guy in the American Communist Party - Morris Childs - was shafted by the Commies, and turned to the FBI as their most prized CI for nearly 40 years. He flew to Moscow nearly every year to bring Soviet funds, $1-2 Million yearly for the American Commie Party, and met with Brezhnev and Andropov regularly and passed on the high-Kremlin thoughts and analysis to the FBI, which helped us guide the Sino-Soviet split, and then the collapse of the USSR. I Great read. The FBI were definitely the good guys back then.

Chuckie, why not ask the people terrorized by MS13 gang members who have taken over their neighborhoods whether they think open borders are a nothing burger?
walter said... Since R/V ran out of energy to link it himself: Tucson Police Chief_Sessions’s Anti-Immigrant Policies Will Make Cities More Dangerous *******************************************
Sample from that article of a year ago:
"Tucson is not technically a sanctuary city. But we are close to the border with Mexico and take pride in being welcoming to immigrants. Yet the government has warned us that our grants are in danger."
Notice any significant ommission in that?
The insertion of the word "illegal" in front of "immigrants" would make the sentence nonsensical. Why should any American city be welcoming to people entering the country illegally?
Yet that word isn't used even once in the article. Instead we read "crackdown on immigrants" and "anti-immigrant rhetoric".
Disgustingly disingenuous. Sheer sophistry.
there's more:
"Instead, the changes it [the DOJ] wants to make — to force local police officers to cooperate much more closely with federal immigration authorities — will compromise public safety by reducing community confidence in law enforcement."
I see.... communities will welcome illegals into their neighborhoods, despite their drag on social services and the ability to dip into welfare funds paid by citizens. Yeah, that's the way taxpayers think. As they do in California, where illegals have utterly ruined the San Joaquin valley.
Yeah Jay..that first omission is even in the article title. In his Twitter feed, this is the extent of his addressing killing of Singh:
Chris Magnus Retweeted Frank Dixon @Chief_Dixon2746 26 Dec 2018
The Singh family took this amazing Christmas photo last night, unaware it would be their last together. Officer Singh would be shot and killed 5 hours later. Prayers for the Newman, CA Police and their families. Absolutely breaks my heart as it should anyone who sees this. -- Oh, nice..so that really addresses what made that national news.
In the op ed, he's all into making it easier for illegals to inform on crimes...as if ways to inform anonymously are impossible. He might want to give some recognition of the fact that some crime, including murders are indeed categorically preventable.
“I am in Tucson vacationing and hiking and am surprised at how few people discuss the need for a border wall or complain about illegal immigrants. They do talk about the Great hiking trails and the best Sushi restaurant this side of San Diego.”
Not sure if I understand his point. He is visiting probably the bluest, most progressive, city in AZ, and is surprised 5hat no one is talking about problems with illegal aliens. If there were a list of places in the state to avoid discussing illegals, Tucson would be at the top of the list.
The inability/unwillingness to make the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants is clearly the "New Democrat" face. No pictured ID for voting, no jail for Hilary, Holder et al fits the bill. My mother's big brother enlisted in the AAF and took to flying P38s in the pacific theater. Shot down, killed Jan. 6 1943. Movie star handsome, he cut quite a figure in the few photos we had. At this time of year I always wish I had him to talk with. His death left a huge gap in our family. Makes me furious about the breakdown of the Republic by people who experienced no such loss. No USA at all.

please have your friend talk to Immigration lawyer (at least 15 years practice) per my friend who runs ILW.com - as it stands law does not allow any lawful return for him if he leaves unlesss Congress acts to change it.
Hi Be, Always a delight to come across a comment posted by you. Regarding avocado trees as houseplants: the only insight that comes to my mind is to take care not to overwater. Less is more. (I'll call this The Paradox of Avocado Irrigation.) In years past, I made the mistake of giving Arthur (Mrs. Meade named him in honor of Mad Magazine's avocado by the same name) a drink of water every few days. 2 days later, he would look sad and droopy so I'd give him another drink. Leaves would yellow, brown, and be shed, largest first. 2 winters ago, by chance, when I came back from a 2 week vacation, I found Arthur's soil completely dry (as expected), his foliage flaccid (as expected), but only a few leaves had been shed. Ah ha! So I gave his soil a complete soaking and within 12 hours his foliage was fully turgid and within 24 he had sucked up almost all of the water that had drained through and filled his saucer 24 hours previous. Since then, I tough love water him every other week, sometimes longer. Now, instead of picking up shed leaves from the floor every day throughout winter, I pick up fewer than 12 from November to May when I return Arthur outside to the deck.
As far as I can tell, you're doing everything right. Low light in the winter — fine, after all it's the dormant season, he's a tree, he should be snoozing. No fertilizer (I like Osmocote®) until May when he goes back outside and acclimates to direct full sun.
Last summer, seeing a photo of Arthur on the blog, someone emailed Mrs. Meade offering to come over and prune Arthur for us which pushed my shame button and lit a fire under my tired feet to get up and swing my hand shears into action. I cut him back hard — nearly 50% — a few thinning cuts but mostly heading cuts. Well well WELL! Dozens of adventitious buds began to break along with a few terminal buds. As I'm sure you know, there are few things more soul satisfying than watching dozens and dozens of fresh baby leaves unfold. And of course nature's first green is gold...
Sorry, I have no insights into growing winter greens unless you call insight not even trying anymore because, well, the flash-frozen broccolini at Whole Foods made my efforts seem like a field goal kicker whose every attempt hit the uprights without ever bouncing through. Poor me.
Best wishes in the new year, Be. And don't ever Be a stranger (get it? and I'm sure you do. :)
First: Thank You So Much, Sir, for putting up with me. Secondly, and more importantly, for the avocado advice. Overwatering in the Northern Climes is a huge problem; over fertilizing, as well. I marked my calendar for Sunday's watering, and will look into things in two-three weeks. Your fertilizing info is an excellent head's up, as the stuff I'm not using (not osmacote - the other brand) says that I need to Winter fertilize.
Nature's first green always being a sort of el dorado, I am trying out spinach indoors. We'll see what happens. The shifts in weather here being what they are, I still haven't had the chance to bend a bow low like a whip crack on a cold winter's Day.

I saw a game this year where that kicker (sorry I don't know his name) hit the upright FOUR TIMES. Incredible.

Bears kicker somehow manages to hit the upright four times in one game
And it’s probably just a total and inexplicable fluke."
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/11/bears-kicker-somehow-manages-to-hit-the-upright-four-times-in-one-game
Nope, not a fluke.
Is anyone shocked that R/V lives in a bubble?

Yarmuth said, "Well, she's willing to negotiate. You don't negotiate in the media. You take your position."
Wait wut? Is Pelosi lying in simple declarative sentences?

This happened last year, so come good weather, transferred both to larger pots with better drainage. Hoping that this is a light, rather than blight problem. I keep them under the skylights, but can do better, if necessary.
Also, any insights on Winter Gardens in Northern climes? I like a good salad om my Bleak Midwinter Birthday (not far from your Fair Half's). Up until the past couple years ago, could harvest baby kale or mustard from the porch containers. This year, am attempting indoors in the same space as where the outdoor stuff winters.

there are some people who are innocent
Not many, but a few.
Your pastor probably does not know that, but he sounds like a good egg anyway
Large majorities say border security is a problem, but none in the lefty retreats R/V consents to patronize, how many people do you think he met that struggle to get by?
He hopes it will be the first step on his path back here legally some day.
narciso - you are right
but Jesus wants friends too
look at it this way
if you knew me, with all my faults (rudeness in the past, sloth, laziness) AND failure to plainly state to people who were cruel to me or rude to people I loved - most of them now dead, for the record, and almost all of them old and infirm and, young people don't know this, but I do, the people who were unkind to me in those long gone years are, unfortunately (I want them to be happy and healthy, and I want them to love God) are ALL constantly assailed with physical pain or fear of pain (except for those who are on their way to being saints) , and EVERYONE WHO WAS rude to people I cared about, back when I was young and did not pray with intense love for those WHO HAVE LITTLE LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS and THOSE WHO HAVE LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS who were cruel to me, all those people from the years when I did not pray for the people who did not recognize that CRUELTY IS ALWAYS WRONG .....
if you knew me with all my faults and then you heard me talk about how I prayed for the tens of thousands of people I, a portrait artist at heart, have met and HAVE REMEMBERED for all these years in this little life I have lived in this very big world
if you agreed with me that yes, I have spent an awful lot of time praying for people who are now dead
Philippians, Chapters One Through Four.
Tonight, maybe, or tomorrow night, or some night this winter, or next year, you will have one of those dreams where EVERYONE who ever cared about you - the old aunt who complimented your piano playing, the teachers in the elementary school who were kind enough to say a good word, all those people of the opposite sex who looks at you once or twice or a million times with the look we give to people who we love ....
all that great old gang ////
and when you have that dream
think of this
Jesus understood Friendship.
There is nothing easier than being a friend to a creature who never had a friend in this world.
And when I use the word NOTHING, I know what I am talking about.
It is no small thing to be a friend to a creature who never had a friend in this world.

The Bears’ kicker should take up tennis-he’ll hit a lot of lines.

The Bears’ kicker should take up tennis-he’ll hit a lot of lines.
The TV programmers then went and documented all five of his cross-bar rejects!!
I hope he invested well.

R/V, never go to the desert for seafood is what I say.
But it would make a lousy blog.

I feel for the Bears kicker. He drilled the kick which didn’t count. And then missed the one that did by “that much.”
Sports is cruel.

In Parkey's defense, super-slo replays indicate the kick was tipped at the line, and an Eagles player confirmed he got fingertips on it. Just enough.

Did My Family Really Come “Legally”?
I
Great read. The FBI were definitely the good guys back then.
Chuck:
"He certainly asked her some questions that put her on the spot; questions for which she had no good answer as with the concocted number of 4000 "individuals that came across our southern border" were stopped as being known or suspected terrorists. It is a wholly untrue claim of course, that even the Administration won't back up in any detail."

Chuckie, why not ask the people terrorized by MS13 gang members who have taken over their neighborhoods whether they think open borders are a nothing burger?

Snort
Yeah Jay..that first omission is even in the article title.

Oh, nice..so that really addresses what made that national news.
In the op ed, he's all into making it easier for illegals to inform on crimes...as if ways to inform anonymously are impossible.
He might want to give some recognition of the fact that some crime, including murders are indeed categorically preventable.

"Good evening, Happy New Year!"
Thank you again.
