"Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for Stormy Daniels, has denied allegations of domestic violence after his arrest near his ritzy Los Angeles skyscraper apartment."

"'I have never struck a woman, I never will strike a woman,' Avenatti told reporters Wednesday after being booked and posting $50,000 bail. Avenatti said he has been an advocate for women's rights his entire career and is confident that he will be exonerated.... Earlier, he released a statement through his law firm slamming the allegation as 'completely bogus' and intended to harm his reputation...."

From The Chicago Tribune.

You say you've been an advocate for women's rights, but are you also an advocate of the rights of the accused? You should be. I am. And I want you to have all your due process rights.

Also, the public advocacy for women's rights might have something to do with how you treat women in private, but not all that much. I'm not even sure which way it goes. Some people who speak publicly and grandiosely about abstract rights have big problems in the concrete specifics of their personal lives. Charlie Rose. Bill Clinton. Some of these big advocates make me wonder: What are they overcompensating for?

ADDED: From the TMZ report:
We're told security brought her inside the building, took her upstairs and Michael showed up 5 minutes later and ran into the building. He screamed repeatedly, "She hit me first." We're told he angrily added, "This is bulls***, this is f***ing bulls***." We're told he tried getting into the elevator but security denied him access.
"She hit me first" is inconsistent with "I have never struck a woman."

In public he is outspoken, aggressive, authoritarian, brash, boundry pushing, and demanding. Unlikely that he behaves differently in his personal life. Doesn't mean he did what he is accused of doing, but it is easy to believe it could be true. Also, is he an advocate for Woman's Rights because he believes so thoroughly in that cause and goal, or because it is a good way to make an exceptionally good living? Could be both, I suppose.

Our law enforcement sources say Avenatti was arrested Wednesday after a woman filed a felony DV report. We're told her face was "swollen and bruised" with "red marks" on both cheeks.

Domestic violence is, 99% of the time, a case of two idiots fighting and the smaller, weaker idiot losing. I used to do the odd volunteer work for the local battered women's shelter by running errands and picking up donations. After what I saw there - never again. Most of those 'battered' women are whores and harpies and druggies being enabled by abusing a social program. I no longer contribute a single dime to them - and recommend that you shouldn't either. It is largely a scam for otherwise unemployable social workers.

Nothing like being accused to clarify how one feels about victims rights. Victims have the right to be protected against the accused. The accused have the right to be protected against the state and those rights are more important.

Can someone tell me in which area his hypocrisy is greater: defending the rights of women or defending the rights of the accused?......On the plus side, he will not become a proper villain or an object of widespread mockery. I point you to the example of Schneiderman (I've already forgotten his first name). He was the NY AG who was active on women's causes and in physically abusing women he dated. After the story of his abuse came out, he became a non-person as opposed to a vilified person........I think the dynamics of philandering or of abusive relationships have nothing to do with political affiliations, but the historical record shows that you can get away with more and for a longer period of time if you're a Democrat. Avenatti is done, but no one will stick a fork in him to prove it.

The dark cloud of the War Against Women is forever hovering over Republicans but usually manages to land on Progressives and Democrats.

“Concerned” Dems aren’t concerned about past sexual assaults by Dems

Excerpts (but read the whole article):
It’s amusing, in a sickening sort of way, to hear Senate Democrats say it’s unacceptable to have on the Supreme Court someone “credibly” accused of assaulting a woman 36 years ago, when he was in high school. Who among these “outraged” Senators has complained about serving with Democratic colleagues credibly accused of, and in at least two cases admitting to, assaulting women?

Sen. Sherrod Brown’s ex-wife claimed that Brown threw her up against a wall and showed “physical violence and abusive nature.” This allegation is contained in court documents.

It must also be mighty difficult for Kavanaugh’s Senate critics to serve with Sen. Tom Carper. He admits he gave his ex-wife a black eye.

Sen. Cory Booker has admitted groping a friend when he was in high school. He made the admission in a characteristically pompous column in the Stanford school newspaper.

And what about Sen. Mazie Hirono? From her perch on the Senate Judiciary Committee, she asks every male judicial nominee whether he has ever sexually harassed or assaulted anyone.

Yet, according to the Washington Free Beacon, Hirono’s Senate campaign accepted $1,000 from Sen. Carper’s First State PAC in June of this year.

Finally, let’s not forget the case of Keith Ellison. He stands very credibly accused of assaulting two women as an adult. Contemporaneous police records back up at least one of the assault claims.

Yet, Ellison remains Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

According to the Washington Post:

"TMZ, which first reported the arrest, initially wrote that Avenatti was arrested after his “estranged wife” filed a felony domestic violence report. TMZ later amended its story after his ex-wife, Lisa Storie-Avenatti, said through a lawyer that the assertion was not true.

"'Ms. Storie-Avenatti was not subject to any such incident on Tuesday night. Further, she was not at Mr. Avenatti’s apartment on the date that this alleged incident occurred,' Storie-Avenatti’s statement said. 'My client states that there has never been domestic violence in her relationship with Michael and that she has never known Michael to be physically violent toward anyone.'"

So do you believe the woman and at what point in time?

And TMZ says:

"4:10 PM PT -- We were initially told by our sources the alleged victim was Avenatti's estranged wife. We now know it was not. The incident involved a different woman. "

Is he guilty as charged? I don't know--we'll let the court figure it out. The woman in question will come forward (unless Avenatti pays her $300K or so to remain silent) and she will either be believed or not believed. I don't think much of the defense "she hit me first", since it implies that he struck the second blow. It does give the lie to Avenatti's claim that he would never strike a woman.

But Avenatti is guilty of being a publicity hound; sort of like a male Gloria Allred.
