Christine Blasey Ford communicates that she “would be prepared to testify next week" on "terms that are fair and which ensure her safety."

The NYT has obtained the letter from her lawyer to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

But the letter also says that a Monday hearing "is not possible and the Committee’s insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event" and — backing off from an earlier demand — that Blasey just has a "strong preference" for an F.B.I. investigation before she testifies.

Shut up and vote.

I predict she will choose the closed session. That’s the win-win for her maintaining her privacy and Democrats to characterize her testimony any way they want. Would Kavanaugh then be given the option of a closed session? That’s a trap for Republicans.

I hear she's getting her nails done that Monday, so no can do. Delaying tactic par excellence. Some else will become a factor after humoring her for the 2nd time.

It's over. Open session. Monday. Vote.

And in a perfect world she'd suffer the same consequence for her accusation as the accused would've if been found guilty. But momma always said the world wasn't fair.

I'll settle for destroying her reputation.

iowan2 said...

So, a yes but. Grassely should call her on the phone, ask her for a date, he can either agree or say so sorry, we move forward without you. Ford is no in a negotiating position. Grassely and the committee are going out of their way to accomadate. Ford pissing on their shoes is not really helping.
On another note, the left is demanding the FBI investigate. Grassely lays out in his letter exactly why that is not something that will provide any clarity. To paraphrase Grassely, the FBI does background investigation. They talk to your neighbor, ask if your a good neighbor. You say yea, he's good, mows the lawn, helps with the block party, no wild parties, but, I'm pretty sure he deals drugs, not out of the house, but he does deal.
So now the FBI does not continue on the trail tracking down the veracity of the claim, the call the appropriate law enforcement agency and give them the lead.
In short, the FBI is not going to do the work Ford wants done, chasing down leads, to corroborate her story, all they would do is pass on the accusation. Which has exceeded the Statute of Limitations. Which serve to keep a power hungry govt from infringing on citizens rights

She can be accompanied on the plane by a federal marshall, driven to a secure location to spend the night, and then be escorted to a closed session of the judiciary committee. Vance said...

Why delay? The FBI has made it clear there's not going to be any investigation.

And now we've found out that Feinstein gave the unredacted letter to the Post or the NYT, but not to Grassley, the chair of the Judiciary Committee. Why should anyone countenance this?

Still, given the circus that Booker, Kamala and the rest created during the hearings earlier, I can easily see Ford fearing for her safety if she has to reveal she lied--the chances of the protestors ripping her apart is pretty high, I would imagine.

Christine Blasey Ford Published Eight studies about “Abortion Pill” and Works for Company that Produces It

Professor Christine Blasey Ford, while working for Stanford University, was also affiliated with Corcept Therapeutics (2006 – 2011). Her new Wikipedia page describes her as “director of biostatistics at Corcept.” Corcept Therapeutics Inc. (CORT) has a $1.66 billion market cap (worth), with current annual sales of $216 million.

Liberals and feminists are very worried that Judge Brett Kavanaugh may participate in reversing Roe v. Wade. Christine Blasey wants to stop Kavanaugh from reaching the country’s highest court.

According to an article at Philly.com, “ Alan Schatzberg, a Stanford University psychiatrist and scientist, co-founded Corcept Therapeutics in 1998 to explore whether mifepristone could help treat major depression.” He left the company in 2007, when the company changed direction (but continued to explore uses for mifepristone).

Corcept Therapeutics has only one product: Korlym (mifepristone). The “abortion pill”, otherwise known as RU-486 or “Mifeprex” (brand name), is mifepristone.

Could that be true, that Ford worked for the manufacturer of the RU-486 Morning After pill? Maybe she thought that it would have been helpful the day after some of her purported drunken sexual escapades. /Sarc

I continue to believe that a lengthy delay and a boring law-enforcement enquiry would be preferable to replaying the Anita Hill hearings. The idea that these Senators are going to entrap a sympathetic witness (whether Ford or Kavanaugh) into a big reveal is ludicrous. It's a vanity project for the very vain. We don't need to replay this stupidity.

Let the Senate request an investigation and then everyone can go back to their fundraising dinners until January. The FBI can play spin the bottle and anyone the bottle points at has to recite a laundry list under oath.

Then the FBI can report back in January that the accusers is vague with details and the defendant denies everything.

Because the basic fact is this: The Senators are morons. They couldn't form a star chamber if you gave them gold stars. They are too inept and too compromised to strike at the truth, even accidentally. I'd rather have nothing happen than another hearing.

This has turned into a high stakes poker game. The Republicans, in a way, have staked the consequences of the last election. The Democrats are betting what exactly? This letter from Ford is like "oh yeah? well we bet a gazillion dollars!" and Senate Republicans have, in effect, said "wow, okay, we'll see your bet and call you" and suddenly Democrats are arguing for why they shouldn't have to show their cards. On a more serious note, if this accusation falls apart under examination, what will the consequences be? Who will pay the price for the chaos? for all these crazy arguments people advance to defend this insanity? Ford? Feinstein?

If the Democrats bet the farm and lose who will pay a price?

No. My understanding is the FBI learning something from the background check, that is criminal, refers that crime to local authorities, inserts the information into the file and the White House deals with the information in front of them, decides if the information is disqualifying. The FBI also starts the background check on subject starting at age 18. So activity that happens before that age, would not appear on the FBI's radar. Its almost like juvenile peccadilloes are not a measure of a persons character

It's stupid on steroids for the GOP to give an inch in the hopes of gaining any favor or approval from Dems or their enraged base.

Of course, it's the squishy middle that the GOP is worried about-- the Althouses. But how many squishes are there, really? This country is so polarized it's hard to believe there are really very many people who haven't yet picked a side.

But if they allow the Dems to drag the country into yet another bogus investigation they piss off their own base and the moderates who are sick of these stupid games, which they can't afford to do. Unless they actually want to lose this fall. With the GOP it sometimes seems like they prefer to be losers.

Set a date for the woman to appear, and if she doesn't show, then move on to the vote. The leftist media will bitch, but who gives a shit? They've been bitching non-stop since election day and will continue to bitch all through Trump's second term. At this point, what difference does their bitching make? So the Dems turn Kavanaugh into another Clarence Thomas; good luck to them on future court decisions with that move.

I hope Whelan isn't as stupid as that tweet thread looks. Based on my limited knowledge of him, I didn't think he was. Maybe?

Ed Whelan doing a pretty good job showing the benefit of an FBI investigation

An FBI investigation begins with questioning the accuser. But if they did, she would scream that she is being persecuted and that she's not the one on trial here.

The accuser does not want to talk to them. She only wants the FBI to interrogate the accused. How they can do that without knowing what is alleged is, of course, not possible. Maybe it also has something to do with telling false statements to the FBI being a felony.

If the Kavanaugh thing did happen, I have a thought experiment for cons.

Does the attempted rape and the successful sexual attack of a girl performed by an almost adult beat a boss who does creepy sexual stuff to his gal subordinates?

We know that there has never been a more dependable con than the dude who, re sex stuff, abused his worker gal, therefore I'd think that a dude who sexually attacked a gal would be even more extreme. Presumably Thomas will be surpassed re being pro-con re being a Justice.

2nd thought experiment: what if the victim had been a dude? Is there better con-Justice-boner-fides when a dude abuses gals v him abusing dudes?

Has there been recess appointment to SC?

Yes. the first nomination ever rejected by the Senate was John Rutledge. he was originally confirmed as one of the original Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, but resigned after a couple of years. He was then picked to replace John Jay as the second Chief Justice. He was initially a recess appointment, and was rejected by the following Senate.

Is it in play now?

No. Not only is Congress in session practically full time, when the members do go home, the party in charge uses legislative tricks to keep Congress technically in session.

But for God's sake, if you have a Republican Senator or a vulnerable Democratic Senator up in your State, stop commenting on Althouse and go out and volunteer for the Republican.

And if you need a little extra incentive, don't forget that Brett Kavanaugh is a decent person, and the Democrats are trying to destroy him -- not defeat his nomination -- destroy him.

Without corroborating evidence, there are several possible scenarios. One, Ford assaulted Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh assaulted Ford. Ford assaulted a third party. A third party assaulted Ford. The assault occurred at the party. The assault occurred at another party. The assault occurred on a Facebook page. The assault occurred in a Twitter storm. There was no assault. Ford's recovered memory was of events from a past life. Ford aborted her daughter and is seeking a rape exemption for violating the human rights of her daughter, and crimes committed against society in a less progressive liberal nation.

That said, with the spate of assaults over the last eight trimesters, on Republican politicians, government workers, and private individuals, it's probably a good idea to ensure that Ford and the Democratic entourage are restrained for the safety of Kavanaugh and others in the room.

Learning the facts of life.

You'll avoid a lot of damages
an enjoy the fun of managing
the facts of life;
they shed a lot of light
If you hear them from your brother,
better clear them with your mother
better get them right,

No, Ms. Piwowarski said she texted back, she would have remembered that, and was everything O.K.? Dr. Blasey didn't want to speak in detail quite yet, her friend recalled her responding. "I don't know why she was asking that or what it ultimately meant or didn’t mean," Ms. Piwowarski said in an interview, but she remembers thinking that the question betrayed deep turmoil.--the New York Times

Christine Blasey Ford really did mean it when she commented on Facebook that they have to do whatever is necessary to stop another Conservative on the Court. I hope they frisk her twice at the door if she ever shows up to testify.
