How to dress for the museum....

P1170990

P1180119

P1170861

P1170846

I like all these get-ups (but only the figure on the left in the third picture).

You're at the museum. People are in visual mode, paying attention. It's a good time to wear something to be looked at — something to charm and amuse.

Feel free to use this post as an open thread.

Sorry to be a grump, but I hate shirts with messages on them.

I don't want to read your walking billboard.

Sorry.

And I saw a young lass in shorts at the hotel. Yowsa. Reminded me of my wife - 20 years ago, so I gave her a call.

My wife, that is.

Gotta believe they were all there for the planet killing Air Conditioning! Reminds me of '60's visits to San Francisco's DeYoung Museum, if it was cold/foggy/raining the unwashed druggies (aka fake hippies, I knew the real hippies)were the majority of attendees.

The most important article of clothing for museum touristing is a good pair of shoes. Comfortable & with good cushioning & support.

The marble or stone flooring of most museums will just kill your knees after a couple of hours. The flooring at most of the Smithsonian Museums in DC are torturous.

Who goes in public dressed like that?

I am so ready to retire, and no, nudity should not be encouraged in the museum field. For every young nubile thigh working hottie, there are a bus load of pensioners arguing for a senior citizen discount, on top of the AAA fee reduction. Plus, they would like the golf cart to drive them the 300 meters to the historic site.

Seems totally appropriate to me.

The straw-hat-draped-over-the-back and a sundress look for women always brings a smile. It's lively and fresh as well as informally sincere.

By the time this “let your freak flag fly” aesthetic filters down to People of WalMart, it’s just scary. I witnessed this first hand last week. I followed into the store a young woman sporting neon leggings, and a midriff exposing crop top emblazoned with”God Bless Me,” all 250 pounds of her undulating outward in cascades from her Lycra prison; the middle aged white anorexic conversing with the yogurt; from afar, someone screams “ALFONSE!!” At the top of her lungs, causing a mild bomb scare.. until the assistant manager chases her down in her Wal Mart Scooter. The old guy in his flannel pjs, socks and pool shoes. The roving hordes of unaccompanied minors tearing open packages and grabbing snacks.
Mad max.
So let’s not congratulate ourselves too much for abandoning norms.

Why we must never let the left disarm Americans.

Brave protesters in #Khorramshahr just started defending themselves by shooting at the terrorist #Basij militia & #IRGC Special Unit of #Iran's Islamic Regime Police. They have armed themselves by AK-103 assault rifles captured from security forces. #IranProtests.

To say feel instead of be is amongst the gravest of recent travesties circumlocutionally to us here, now.

Humans are going to human. In 100 thousand years you wore what you wore which was pretty much what everyone wore. A few thousand years ago the rich wore something different. Now we can all wear something different. Not doing so is a violation of historical materialism and a crime against the people.

mockturtle said...

Exactly, MK. And I hope we have the good sense to stay the hell out of the Iranian thing. They will--I hope--succeed on their own. Thankfully, it's not a religious dispute.

"polka dot dude" is probably in his early 20s.

Odds are, one day, some woman will love him, and they will have children together, and those children will love their dad.

I, for one, have no aspirations to the long geezerdom that the Silicon Valley elite wish for, but were I to live another 100 years, God forbid, I would likely have no problem, with the help of what we now call "AI" (I assure you that acronym will seem as out-dated then as

" A-OK, Sarge" now seems to be) ...

no problem at all with the thought that there is nothing trivial about saying, about a fellow human being

Who cares if their style sense was, once or twice, less than empyrean?

Tonight, while reading the Althouse blog, outside my window I heard horrific screams - go away , stop that!, were some of the terrified

words I could make out - I rushed out my fourth floor apartment door, rushed down the stairs, and emerged outside ---

a "grandma" had been walking her daughter's little white terrier and a couple of retriever mixes (yes, there was a little bit of the Alsatian and the German in them) had broken away from another lady and sort of attacked the little dog, for reasons that I am sure made sense to all the involved canine parties ....

the "grandma", bless her heart, was crying, which is fine, but she was dangerously not tightly holding on to the scared terrier (I saw this immediately, because of the look not of panic but of amusement in its eyes (I am a terrier whom no big dogs shall ever harm, that was the look, only I and the dogs knew this) - well, a sort of panicked look of amusement (but the dog was happy to see me, after a century or more of dog ownership I know how to communicate with our younger brothers and sisters in the Lord the dogs). I took the terrier in my arms and (I am leaving out some details) yelled at the grandma to run and get the leash that the terrier had squirmed out of. I immediately saw that the dog was not bleeding anywhere and that the great danger was that the terrier, a mostly unharmed but understandably concerned for its continuing safety little animal (the individual walking the retriever/Alsatians was hanging around, apologizing in a very sad and unnecessarily loud repentant way), would bolt into the night, into the trees not far off. And perhaps not be found by those who loved the wonderful little creature, and wanted to give it a home, but be found, prior to its so badly desired homecoming, by the coyotes and wildcats and vultures who are not unknown in my neighborhood.

All this in the badly lit areas of our apartment complex where the grass grows so slowly, and probably does not grow at all at night. All this while I was getting ready to write, and about to write, this comment.

God loves us all the way we are but loves us too much to let us stay that way.

I think GoCB runs his posts through a translator app into some romance language and then back out again. Or maybe there's an app that takes a perfectly intelligible sentence and renders it into... that. Cute story, though, and a kind of naive charm to it, until it becomes completely unintelligible.

Anyways, I'm disturbed by how wide-spread Nazi conspiracy theories are becoming. I saw this in my fb feed hours before the post went up at Twitchy, but instead of mocking it, the poor dears were all in, so to speak. A published-author friend piled on, noting that recent immigration policy polling (that one that had such bad numbers for Democrats) was conducted by Harvard/Harris polling - gasp - another HH! (That's a dog whistle/code for Heil Hitler, and only Nazis ever use two H's like that, didn't you know?!)

Is there anything that can be done for them? I feel like anything I say will just make things worse. Sad.

@Joan-

Someone should point out to them that Hitler's lucky number was thirteen.

And if you count the stripes on the American flag -- it's thirteen too!

This explains why so many right-wing Nazi nutjobs are so upset about NFL players disrespecting the Nazi flag of AmeriKKKa!!!!

There's nothing that I feel so strongly about that I want it permanently tattooed on my body. That's why I wear T-shirts, which let me express myself now and take it off later so I can express something different.

For my trip to the Met last weekend, I wore shorts (on a 67 degree day in New York; refreshingly cool for a Florida boy) and T-shirt that said "SLOTH IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL." At least I didn't wear sandals with socks like my Dad did, although he just turned 80, so I think the rules no longer apply at that age.

Now, just a minute, Inga may think I need Depends but she needs them more than I do.

I will not go out in shorts, for example, although many in Tucson do.
