Trump pardons Dinesh D'Souza.

AND: From WaPo:
The president, who has issued a series of pardons in recent months, said he is also considering leniency in number of other cases, including those of former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich (D) and Martha Stewart, the author and television personality....

Trump later told reporters traveling with him on Air Force One that he is considering commuting the remainder of the sentence of Blagojevich, who was convicted in 2010 on charges relating to the selling of President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat.

[Blagojevich's b]ragging about getting something in return for a Senate appointment, Trump said, was “a stupid thing to say—but 18 years?”

The OIG report is coming next week

I've seen this written for weeks and weeks and weeks.

Friday.

The report expected to be sent to Congress on Friday is only a portion of a larger review Horowitz announced in January 2017, covering a broad range of issues about potential misconduct at the FBI and Justice Department in advance of the 2016 presidential election. Horowitz said late last year that he anticipated completing that report in March or April of this year. But lawmakers now say they expect the full report in May.

There are multiple reports. They kept adding subjects for him, hence the delays.

The completion of a long-awaited watchdog report on the FBI and DOJ’s Hillary Clinton investigation during the 2016 presidential campaign has put Washington on edge, as the clock counts down to its potentially explosive release.

“We’re all anxiously awaiting this report,” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News’ “Hannity.”

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced the draft report was done in a letter to members of Congress on Wednesday. He did not say when the results of the review will be officially released to the FBI, DOJ and congressional committees.

-- Eh, I'm convinced if he had been supporting the left, he'd never have been charged. Lots of people who give to the left in excess amounts are given a chance to withdraw or have their excess donations returned; Obama was never called to task for poor vetting of donors, etc.

If for the last several years, it had not been made painfully apparent to me that political persuasion will be used to decide if someone is prosecuted or not, then I'd agree. I still don't think a pardon is right since he did do it; he only became an issue because he stuck his finger in the king's eye. But, I don't think there's a middle ground between full pardon and commuting/minimizing the sentence for him either.

Meanwhile, pardon Blago for sure, and Martha Stewart (who was prosecuted by James Comey)--but also pardon Matthew Charles and Alice Marie Johnson (on whose behalf Kim Kardashian visited the White House).

If I were Trump, I would go through the list of all the people prosecuted by Patrick Fitzgerald, Comey, Mueller, and Andrew Weissmann and look for people who got railroaded and who should be pardoned.

The only way one can bring them back to reason, or at least a modus vivendi, is to inflict such pain that they submit to limits. This will escalate until it is more unbearable for one side than the other.

This is in no way different than the course of an actual war, other than that neither side has yet broken into outright physical violence.

Jupiter said...

He shouldn't talk about pardons he is "considering". That is wrong in a number of ways. That said, all of the pardons he is considering are good ideas. I think the policy of the American justice system, of locking up people whose crimes are financial (or political) with people whose crimes are violent, is stupid and counterproductive. Also cruel, although unfortunately far from unusual.

The purpose of the Presidential Pardon is to nullify the jury.

The proper thing to do, summon the prosecutor from the case to the White House, where he/she/it should stand before the President, and he/she/it should open his/her/its hand, to which the President will deposit a dime.

The prosecutor will go back home and pay the dime to the people, in consideration of the sums he spent prosecuting the case, and wasting the communities wealth.

Why not just issue a blanket pardon of all persons prosecuted by Comey and Mueller.

If you needed any more evidence of how corrupt Trump is one need look no further than his pardoning of Blagojevic.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Trump is sending a message: It doesn't matter how corrupt you are or what laws you break. As long as you serve his interests he will back you up, get you off the hook, and absolve you of any crime.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

I can only wait until Sally Yates needs a pardon.

Sally Yates broke no law, but if you weren't a corrupt, craven, criminal, conservative without any conscience or a cause you might have an easier time understanding that.

It's like, there's right and there's wrong but cons don't know the difference because all they want is someone/something to hate.

This is such a joke. It's starting to resemble Saddam Hussein's mass release of Iraqi criminals in 2003 to show his "bounty" while hoping to stave off the 2003 invasion.

He can do it in a two hour special.

On the Fourth of July.

Ratings gold.

Not as popular as Hitler's speeches and rallies, though. He really needs to go full Nazi to make that happen.

It's pretty clear that he will let anyone get away with any crime as long as it makes it easier for him to avoid being held to account. It really has gotten to the point in America that he (or Fat Sanders) should be asked, are there any criminals or any crimes that you wouldn't pardon and how exactly does allowing these three miscreants to escape the judgment of the law (or his own voluntary guilty plea, in D'Souza's pathetic case), help you personally?

Trump does not believe in the law or responsibility and neither do his followers. He is quickly following in the footsteps of his closest presidential analogy, Andy Johnson.

How fitting.

Also, it proves my point that you take issue with that statement. Aren't you the guy who's in favor of redlining.. of keeping people from predominantly black neighborhoods from moving to neighborhoods with higher property values?

I think it involved something called "breaking the law."

No need to explain it to you because you think "breaking the law" means "someone you don't like did something you didn't like," and that you can just put people in jail because you're opposed to them politically.

That really is how simple-minded you cons are. Conservatives without a conscience or cause committing craven acts of criminal corruption constantly.
