Italy's president apparently refused to allow the coalition that had hammered out an agreement to form a government- and at the recommendation of the EU. Considering that the parties involved had followed the rules to the letter, it is difficult to interpret this refusal as anything other than denying the people the results of their voting. This no option now but the revote nationwide. I guess the EU wants them to vote until they, the EU, likes the result. I think they are in for a big fucking shock.
Also following the jailing of Tommy Robinson in Great Britain. Was arrested for filming outside of court house where a trial was taking place where Islamic defendants were being tried for sexual abuse and other sex related crimes. He was sentenced the same day to 13 months in prison. Of course, the claim was he had violated a suspended sentence for the same crime of recording. In addition, the judge ordered a blanket media blackout- you can't even report on the arrest of Robinson or, apparently, the trial of the Islamic defendants either. The proper response of the British people who find this an outrage should be for 10,000 of them to show up with cameras on the next court date, and post the videos continuously to Youtube and elsewhere. Will they? I doubt it- they seem to be a people who are fully beaten down.
If it wasn't clear, my jabs were good natured fun. Not sure about the driving or global warming thing, but I'm excited at the notion of Althouse After Dark. Maybe it's just a late post because the sun sets so late this time of year? As a fellow Midwesterner who doesn't see summer until the days are already getting shorter, I've found myself feeling cheated by the solar be procession.
'But why we do need 8' or 10' kitchen knives with points? Butchers and fishmongers do, but how often, if at all, does a domestic chef use the point of an 8' or 10' knife? Rarely, if at all,' he said.
Traditional English law require everyone to join in the "hue and cry" to catch and arrest a malefactor, but once he is arrested and in custody there may not be any further publicity until he has been tried and sentence passed. The media are then free to criticize the proceedings to their hearts' content, but not while the trial is under way.

You must remember that the British are subjects, not citizens. As long as the dole keeps coming they'll submit.
I'm getting heavy flashbacks to 1975 and the Big Red Machine: Jesus Aguilar= Tony Perez... Lorenzo Cain = Ken Griffey... Domingo Santana = Caesar Geronimo... Jonathan Villarreal = Joe Morgan...

Half the people in this country would be fine with the repressive idiocies of Airstrip One, and they're citizens. The British have always been "subjects", but they weren't always the passive eunuchs they've become. As a matter of fact, our revolutionary rumbles began with the aggrieved sense that our traditional rights as Englishmen were being trampled.
The rot has nothing to do with their being "subjects", because the same rot has been sedulously working away on our country.
In a lot of British crime shows there are noisy white crowds protesting for or usually against the perp when he's taken to pokey. I always think, yeah right, that happened.
Thomas Jefferson felt that judges should stand for election every year to make sure their rulings would correspond to the people's wishes. To him this was "republicanism." To the Federalists it meant mob rule.

Happy Memorial Day. A lotta brave folks fought and died so that future generations (us) could live in relative ease and comfort. Here's to them!

Only when you can drive there from Wisconsin.
Well, you can't drive there any longer- global warming took care of that!

It doesn't pay to get your information from Ritmo The Imbecile.

How about those Brewers?
I hear England is about to ban assault knives.

Definitely a job for Althouse TV.

@Kevin, the judge in question doesn’t seem to realize that “rarely” is not the same as “never.”

If Jefferson were returned to earth today, he would move to California and run for governor.
Ever notice that when you are in a bar or pub or whatever, the only people watching baseball have gray hair?
I know that because I am one of the baseball watchers. I get the feeling most people don't even notice that it's on.
Will they? I doubt it- they seem to be a people who are fully beaten down.
All those lives wasted fighting the Germans when the Brits and the Germans are now overrun with you-know-whats.
