Super Bowl.

The teams. The ads. The hoopla.

Chat about it here.

UPDATE: Great game. Exciting throughout. We were rooting for the Eagles.

Way more fun than watching a bunch of whiny millionaires bitch at me about how tough it is for them.

Hope the XFL does well though. I will follow that if they make it fun.

I am almost not rooting for the Patriots. Probably will change when the game starts. My daughter in Boston is rooting against them because the parties when they win get out of hand, not that she will be watching the game.

After watching the Patriots all season, It’s hard to believe that they are as good statistically as they ended up. I guess cause they weren’t very good the first few games.

Lost interest long before all this, but I'll monitor the discussion of the ads. I'll be very interested in the ratings as well.

One question: Can anyone buy a ticket to the Super Bowl these days? Or are they all snapped up by corporate sponsors and handed out?

They have become the property of pajama boy social justice warriors. They are afraid of the natives who dominate the sprot and will soon go the way of boxing.

Eagles catching the flu (or flu-like symptoms) could be an important factor.

N-95 or higher dusk masks reportedly blocks flu viruses. Nosk (in the nostrils) N95 filters are sold out unless ordered on Ebay from Korea.

Was in a Trader Joe's yesterday and the check-out guy was wearing food preparers gloves. Since I heard several customers on line hacking away, I asked if his gloves were to prevent giving or getting the flu. Giving he said.

@Bill, Republic of Texas: Altered Carbo" looks interesting after just one episode. I have not read the book but know a little about it. I checked the user reviews on IMDB before taking a look. Those who read the book thought it was really good, mostly 9/10 ratings. Overall rating is 8.7. Will watch ep 2 later tonight to see if I want to continue through all 10. Set design looks a lot like Blade Runner, one of my favorite SF movies.

My wife and I watch Netflix a lot. Original series are hit or miss, just like anything else. In the past year we have really enjoyed The Crown, Stranger Things, Narcos, Ozark, and most recently, Mindhunter.

Wife: Are you watching the game?
Me: Sort of.
Wife: Have you watched any of the commercials.
Me: No, I was cooking. I'll catch them all later on YouTube. I don't think they are as good as they used to be. Nothing will ever be as memorable as the 1984 Apple commercial.
Wife: 1984 Apple commercial? What was that?
Me: You know, the one for 1984. With Big Brother on the screen. The girl runs in with the hammer and smashes the screen in front of all the drones in the audience. It announces the MacIntosh.
Wife: Don't think I've ever seen it.
Me: It has been re-played and parodied many times. Surely you've seen it.
Wife: Don't think so.
Me: (Bring up video on phone and hand to her).
Wife: No, never seen it.

Altered Carbon
MindHunter
Stranger Things
Black Mirror
Daredevil
Punisher
Peaky Blinders
Dark
Marco Polo
The Crown
Voltron
Making a Murderer

I think it's a fine show. Tasteful. Not over-the-top. Entertaining without trying to overshadow the main event.

By the way, the commercial quoted from a sermon given 50 years ago today - February 4, 1968.

The quoted part was about MLK talking about "a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love" and being great by being a servant to others.

Now what the hell does that have to do with Dodge trucks?? What the hell do all of these Christian ideas have to do with selling stuff?

It is nothing but cheap exploitation of both MLK and the Christian faith, using both for Dodge's crass commercial ends. It is wrong to use God and to use a martyred minister to sell crap.
