When a building inspector comes to your project he always dings you for something just to show he's doing his job. I bet it's the same thing with these masked guys.
A number of these poor girls and their families will be going to prison or worse no matter what. Probably one or two of the masked guys will go down as well. There will be masked guys to watch the masked guys and they have to show their dedication to duty as well.

Mockturtle, I saw that too. And then he crashed out again when they restarted when he should have been out the first time. My immediate reaction was that he'll never eat again after he gets home. The look on his face was one of despair.
Maybe "never" is too harsh -- they'll put some food in the cell in two years or so and he can eat if he wants to.
Like I said last night, these cheerleaders are viewed as sub-human. Even by the free press, which claims to adore them, but treats them like a group of things. How do we know? No one asks their names.
Without a name, Who are they? How can we even care about them? "Third cheerleader from the left, second row" -- if she disappears, or is replaced, or hurt, who would notice? We don't have anything to attach to them, to relate to them.
We know Grumpy Cat's name, and the dog on Frasier, but we don't know ANY of these women's name. Heck, I know machine parts that are regarded more like a human than any of these women.

That's a good point. I expect the girls have been told in no uncertain terms not to talk to the media and a responsible reporter, if such a thing exists anymore, would have to worry what the consequences might be for a girl if he singled one out and spoke to her, coaxed a response of any kind from her.
My earnest hope is that the people of North Korea will overthrow their evil leaders. Would China dare to endanger its trade advantages by defending the current regime? I think not.
