Isn't it nice that the Germans can feel comfortable portraying the American President as a monkey?

So much freedom.

Feuer. I know it means fire. But when I try to say it out loud....

Anyway, speaking of making America great again or, I should say getting back to where we were before, I remember spending the Bush years seeing this set of images posted on the door of the office of one of my law school colleagues:

But of course there was no way at all that President Obama could be depicted as any sort of a nonhuman primate (or even any animal at all). Here's the NPR explanation from 2011: "Portraying Obama As Chimp Not Like Showing Bush As One."

But now we've got Trump, the man who will "take all the heat you want to give" him. And even the Germans — who I would have thought would self-censor forever — relax into the freedom of depicting the President as an ape.

IN THE COMMENTS: John Henry says (referring to the Spiegel cover):
I look at the picture and see a progression from glorious manhood (Clinton. He got blown in the oval office! What a man!) to slightly cromagnon (Bush. Kinda stupid but looking better as time passes) to almost Monkey (Obama. How is this not racist?) To full on monkey (Trump. Why?)

Forget it Jake. It's Germany. Racism is baked in.

Drago, I particularly dislike the Communist government in China

President Obama elevated yhe office?

By bowing?

By taking selfies with a hot blonde at Mandela's(?) funeral?

By eaving in a group picture of world leaders?

Obama's dignity is like his super intelligence or his oraatorical chops. A big lie repeated ovet and over until all the gullible accept it as true.

If you actually look at Obama instead of repeating what your betters tell you, he's not all that.

Even so, I am a huge fan. Obama will probably be viewed as the 2nd best president of my lifetime.

For bringing us #1 if nothing else.

Auntie Trump, in response to China being called Fascist:

Communism and fascism, I mean. Diametric opposites!Anyway, you guys enjoy your dialogue of the deaf.

They are not as diametrically opposed as you believe.Wikiquote: Joseph Goebbels.

Lenin is the greatest man, second only to Hitler, and that the difference between Communism and the Hitler faith is very slight.
As quoted in The New York Times, “Hitlerite Riot in Berlin: Beer Glasses Fly When Speaker Compares Hitler to Lenin,” November 28, 1925 (Goebbels' speech Nov. 27, 1925)

…we can see the commencement of our own national and socialist survival in an alliance with a truly national and socialist Russia.
National Socialist Letters (NS-Briefe), Nov 15, 1925

Capitalism is the immoral distribution of capital… Germany will become free at that moment when the thirty millions on the left and the thirty millions on the right make common cause. Only one movement is capable of doing this: National Socialism, embodied in one Führer – Adolf Hitler.
Goebbels’ “Lenin or Hitler” speech first delivered on September 17, 1925

The money pigs of capitalist democracy… Money has made slaves of us… Money is the curse of mankind. It smothers the seed of everything great and good. Every penny is sticky with sweat and blood.
Quoted in The Nazi Party: A Complete History 1919-1945, Dietrich Orlow, New York: NY, Enigma Books, 2012, p 61. Goebbels’ article, “Nationalsozialisten aus Berlin und aus dem Reich”, Voelkischer Beobachter, Feb. 4, 1927

Family quarrels are the worst. Blood is thicker than water, and a lot nastier.

I'm not sure who fucks up a thread worse: Shiloh or Ritmo.

I guess it depends on the day.

Congrats, Shiloh. You win today.

In any event, given what we see emerging from the congressional investigators about the obama/dems illicit spying on Trump and republicans, (and probably many more people over the last handful of years via the FISA 702 process), we should probably toss in that it's an Erich Honeker/Stasi sort of thing as well.

LLR Chuck hardest hit.

Simian derivative is simultaneously the ultimate enlightenment and ultimate insult for the faithful. It has, understandably, less impact on people with a different faith. That said, science is a near-frame philosophy.

Science has shown that white eurotrash is inbred with knuckle-dragging neanderthals while Africans are the pure, more advanced breed. Therefore, it's more appropriate to compare whites with apes. Jared Diamond claims the half-breed dominance is an accident of geography rather than innate superiority. We live in the Ironical Universe.

He said that he would accept whatever compromise the bipartisan group sent him on immigration...

They didn't bring any "compromise", Chuck. I know it's the common cuck misunderstanding of the word, but "compromise" doesn't mean "give us Dems and LLRs everything we want and get nothing in return". And "bipartisan" doesn't mean "letting the Uniparty get away with the immigration bullshit it's been trying to get away with lo these many election cycles".

But all that aside - what's that you say? From your point of view, some elected official didn't do what he said he was going to do re immigration? He said one thing and did another? Or rather, did fuck all? According to you, some elected official lied about what he was going to do about immigration? OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

"And of course he claimed that he would "take the heat," most particularly as he was prompted by Senator Graham, the "heat" from the far-right immigration hawks who had been after Graham for years on the issue.

Those dastardly "far-right immigration hawks", who represent the views of millions of Americans who are tired of Uniparty hacks like Graham fucking them over every which way he can manage on immigration, year after year. What possible place do they have in a "bipartisan" "compromise" on immigration policy? What is our country coming to?

But, lol, you seriously thought this "taking the heat" stuff was about giving assholes like l'il Lindsey cover so they could finally slime through the "comprehensive immigration reform" of their donors' dreams with their Dem Uniparty buds?

But that isn't at all what Trump did. Trump didn't stand up to the immigration hawks; he brought them in.

In a posting career replete with pure comedy gold, that is arguably the arguably the funniest, the daftest, the most sublimely clueless straight-man line you have ever typed. Bravo.

Chuck, you truly are the LLR Brother from Another Planet.

Man. Republicans have been portrayed as apes all of my adult lifetime. (Except GHWB, but he was an exception, possibly even an afterthought.) Apart from him, the only people not portrayed as apes since Carter were Democrats. And especially not Obama, because who would compare our Second Black President to an ape? But Reagan was always associated with "Bedtime For Bonzo," and Bush Jr. was of course Chimpy McHitler, and Trump is an orangutan, because the people wanting to call him an ape think "orangutan" has something to do with "orange," which it doesn't.

Can't people give this shite up? Or is it all logorrhea?

Howard said...

GHWB was no ape, he was a wimp

Wimps don't sign up to be the US Navy's youngest combat pilot in WWII (for a time) and fly 58 combat missions winning 3 Air Medals.

By definition.

I didn't much care for him as a president, but no, I wouldn't describe him as a wimp:

"During their attack, the Avengers encountered intense anti-aircraft fire; Bush's aircraft was hit by flak and his engine caught on fire. Despite the fire in his aircraft, Bush completed his attack and released bombs over his target, scoring several damaging hits. With his engine ablaze, Bush flew several miles from the island, where he and one other crew member on the TBM Avenger bailed out of the aircraft; the other man's parachute did not open. Bush waited for four hours in an inflated raft, while several fighters circled protectively overhead until he was rescued by the lifeguard submarine USS Finback. For the next month, he remained on Finback and participated in the rescue of other pilots. Several of those shot down during the attack were executed, and their livers were eaten by their captors in a disgusting display of cannibalism."

Trump creates the heat and ignores it, thereby letting his opponents burned themselves. The fact that Chuck and other mainstream dullards in both parties doesn't get or see it explains why Trump is so successful. You suck at three card Monte. The only thing the left has going for it is Trump only cares about himself, so they can still win back the house and senate while at the same time get their asses handed to them by a senile clown.

I agree 100% Weds. Wimp was an inappropriate label, but that was successfully hung around his neck. As far as I know, no wimp has ever attempted to land an aircraft on a ship... it defies physics.

Unfortunately Drago, when Dana Carvey plays you on SNL, the wimp meme sticks, no matter the actual quantity of brass you drag around.

See...this is where you screw up. A true Republican would want Trump to side with the hawks.

The establishment position is that for every 100 illegal immigrants given amnesty & the right to vote, nearly one forth will vote GOP. They believe that is winning, common-sense solution to the problem they created when invited ten million or so noncitizens to live & work in the US.
Just ask any of the Bushes. Or Kasich.

I can however recognize a communist country when I see one.

For someone who appropriates the bust of Aristotle ARM exhibits a profound reluctance to think like an Aristotelian.

When I took economics 101 it was the early 90s & the economic collapse of communism was blamed on communism. They did not have a free market economy, so they were unable to determine which goods produced the greatest ROI, so their GDP growth rate was atrocious.
The rule of 70s tells us that if one economy grows at 3% per year, and a second economy grows at 2% per year, after a century the 3% growth economy will have increased a factor of 16 and the 2% economy will have grown by a factor of 8.

Birkel said...

Lewis,
It will take 68 years for the 3% economy to double the 2% economy.
