"I too love it when I get up at 4:30 in the morning and find you here, drinking your first cup of coffee and cooking breakfast."

I said at the end of last night's post, which was mostly a comment from a reader who said, among other things, " I love it when she gets up about 4:30 in the morning and starts posting and I already have something to read while I am drinking my first cup of coffee and cooking my breakfast."

So I should have at least gotten up at 4:30 this morning, but it's 6:30 now as I'm writing my first post.

I don't write posts and then schedule them to go up later. I write and hit the publish button. And I don't set an alarm to wake up. I just wake up when I happen to wake up. If I look at the clock and it's after 4, that's late enough for me and I get up. But this was one of those mornings when I looked at the clock and it was after 5.

But spontaneity and lack of structure are what make this blog what it is. There is no other Althouse. So if you like Althouse — Althouse, the blog, I mean — that's what you like. And that's what I love, as another day begins and I hurl myself into the unknown one more time.

Spontaneity and structure and late-breaking grammatical corrections.

Oddly, I find myself imagining this delivered rap-style:

There is no other Althouse.
So if you like Althouse —
Althouse,
the blog, I mean —
that's what you like.
And that's what I love,
as another day begins
and I hurl myself
into the unknown one more time.

Don’t libel Althouse by using her name in the same sentence with the word “rap.”

Exactly. Today I’ll hurl myself at a Hindu temple I heard about 20 miles from here on the Nepal border. I have a current obsession with the goddess Kali, she’s edgy and terrifying, so I’m hunting down her likeness throughout the region. Not so different actually.

Obama’s favorite rap of 2015.

“How much a dollar really cost?
The question is detrimental, paralyzin' my thoughts
Parasites in my stomach keep me with a gut feeling, y'all
Gotta see how I’m chillin' once I park this luxury car
Hopping out feeling big as Mutombo
"20 on pump 6" - dirty Marcellus called me Dumbo
20 years ago - can't forget
Now I can lend all my ear or two how to stack these residuals
Tenfold; the liberal concept of what men'll do
"20 on 6" - he didn't hear me
Indigenous African only spoke Zulu.”

I am here and have my first coffee. Ready and waiting for the unknown.

Sorry Begley. Spontaneity and lack of structure make my brain what it is.

That's what I like. "Written strangely early in the morning" has always been one of my favorite tags.

Wow, I thought a lot of the posts were scheduled for later. Amazing. I, too, wonder how people are able to post so much and so often. Often, but the time I read the post there are over 50 and sometimes over 100 replies already, and I am an avid reader of the blog.

I, too, have read this blog while in far off land. If I spend 12 days on a boat in the Indo-Pacific, I will backtrack and read all the posts I missed as soon as I get back to land.

Not only are the posts interesting, but the commenters also have much to contribute. Some are blog stars in their own right.

Ha ha... that made me think of those efforts to rap Trump's tweet about Jay-Z. Scott Adams invited it and Chip Mint did a great job

Don't worry. It just depends on what the meaning of is is. If she can mean he or xe, surely is can mean are.

What I like about Althouse is the critical eye toward bullshit. I hate how media uncritically promotes bullshit when it is serves some political purpose, and I hate even more when everyone nods their heads and defends it.

We hear about how awful Red Scares and Hollywood Blacklists were, but when we have a Red Scare and Hollywood Blacklists happen right in front of us, in real time, no one can see it.

So, thanks, Althouse, for seeing the obvious and saying what isn't being said.

I love being retired. I tossed my watch and keep the calendars hidden. For the most part I tell time by the sun and the season. A perfect day for me is when I don't know what day it actually is.

Love the AA blog. And I too get up when I get up - no alarm - generally about 0530

I’m glad I’m a West Coast reader as, by the time I sit down for breakfast at 630, there’s usually some new posts and comments. Breakfast of champions.

OK, been on-line for a half hour, still haven’t gone to another blog. I stopped doing Facebook maybe a year ago, and I don’t really miss it. I would rather talk to my friends in person, and on-line like this.

I wonder if it would be creepy to post at a really forbidden hour, say, 2:30 am, every single night? Would readers think you're simply nocturnal? ---Or, just a relentless night writer on some sort of after-dark rampage? The best writing comes from insomniacs.

Or written in a cold stone tower by a Romantic Poet.

Here is the age of the sayable: here is its home.

Speak, and be witness. More than ever

the things of experience are falling away, since

what ousts and replaces them is an act with no image.

An act, under a crust that will split, as soon as

the business within outgrows it, and limit itself differently.

Between the hammers, our heart

lives on, as the tongue

between the teeth, that

in spite of them, keeps praising.

Sloth is one of the seven deadly sins, which probably explains why your blog attracts the commenters it does.

One of the first things I remember eagerly anticipating on Althouse were her takes on American Idol. I recall how much she hated -- hated!!! -- Carrie Underwood and how she ripped the judges. Cruel Neutrality way back then too!
