"Fire Spicer and hire O'Reilly. It would be the most fun ever."

Surfed wrote in the comments to the post about the Trump interview transcript.

Meade wrote:
I said that very thing just a few days ago. So great minds think alike. A least I've heard they do. I don't know. Maybe great minds don't think alike. But I've heard it. From great scholars. The greatest. So I'm pleased either way.
I can vouch for Meade. He really did say that. About Spicer and O'Reilly. Not about great minds thinking alike. I don't think they do. See?

By the way, recently Trump said: "I’m not firing Sean Spicer. That guy gets great ratings. Everyone tunes in."
Trump even likened Spicer’s daily news briefings to a daytime soap opera, noting proudly that his press secretary attracted nearly as many viewers....

During an intimate lunch recently with a key outside ally in a small West Wing dining room, for instance, Trump repeatedly paused the conversation to make the group watch a particularly combative Spicer briefing....
ADDED: Also in the comments on that other post and before Surfed made his proposal, EDH wrote:
Here's what I propose: Trump hires Bill O'Reilly. They set up a fake "old school" cathode ray tube TV cabinet in the Oval Office. Bill O'Reilly then does The O'Reilly Factor show live in person from inside the hollowed-out TV cabinet while Trump watches the program.

I'd rather he hire Ann Coulter or Milo.

Ann is just now realizing that Trump is a whackadoodle?

traditionalguy said...

The Donald was a wrestler, and as such he admires aggression and quick moves when he sees them. Spicer has a place on this team.

Original Mike said...

I watch a lot of Spicer's press briefings, probably because Fox puts them on. I think he is fine. O'Reilly would be a blast, though.

Michael K said...

Spicer is excellent. O'Reilly would be all about O'Reilly.

traditionalguy said...

The criticism of Spicer is weird. It is like dissing Field Martial Rommel's Blitzkreig for driving the Tanks too fast.

Oh, yeah it is the Trump Resistance that discovered Spicer's German defect.

Original Mike said...

O'Reilly would never have put up with the "Hitler never used chemical weapons" bullshit they dumped on Spicer.

J. Farmer said...

I'd still prefer Laura Ingraham, whose name was briefly bandied about as a potential press secretary pick. Ingraham is fully on board with the nationalist, America First program and could likely articulate it much better than O'Reilly.

Trump is treating the presidency like a freak show.

But we knew he would. That is why all of his Howard Stern listening fans voted for him. Ann too.

mockturtle said...

I agree Ann Coulter would be interesting. O'Reilly? Can't stand the guy. Spicer is OK and is more in step with, and more knowledgeable about, Trumpian policy.

I like Sean Spicer and Trump continues to be Trump which I like and it's good.

J. Farmer, yes! Ingraham would be a better choice.

For example?

Yeah, I was rooting for Ingraham.

Now that I'm starting to see something in Trump's style, it's interesting to see how much the counterpart is in a lot of his haters hereabouts. Instead of repetitive positive inviting comments about people ("they're great, really great" even when they're not all that great) there's a lot "he's crazy", "he's a nutjob" sort of comments that have no basis in actual truth, but are meant to steer the social/emotional reaction to him.

It's postmodern rhetoric, using language for emotional and social positioning not necessarily direct communication or representational observation.

Once Written is like Trump, is what I'm saying.

You talk like Trump. Just say what pops out of your head. Overstate. Make things up. You might be right. See what happens. But he's President and your not.

And you simply have no way to know who I voted for. To act like you do is to show you don't care about getting things right. It's the effect that counts. Trump's YOUR man.

Luke Lea said...

I enjoy Spicer's non-antagonistic style with the press. A fresh contrast to everything else.

Yes, although it would be interesting to see O'Reilly talk over every reporter who asks a question.

More open, naked contempt for the press is always welcome. Return it to it's roots as one of the least admired professions.

Once written, twice... said...

Ann, I can talk like Trump because I am just anonymously trolling on the internet. Trump is President.

Do you really not see the difference?

Once written, twice... said...

And given that until today you have refrained from writing critically of Trump, I might not know who you voted for (and I never really will even if you tell me) I do know that you wrote glowingly of him over the past year and a half.

Michael K said...

They don't get it, Ann. They think "hillbilly" is a real put down. It's a bit like obscenity. If you use a lot of swear words it makes your argument more important.

Once written doesn't do the obscenity thing but the hillbilly is strong in that one.

Ritmo does the obscenity.

Darrell said...

Freak show? The freaks are the Left. Especially those that think Hillary is President. Or Obama.

CStanley said...

Ok now Paddy 0 at 10:41 and Ann at 10:42 showed that great minds really do think alike...and almost simultaneously!

Ann Althouse said...

Sorry about the "your."

Ann Althouse said...

Speaking of "great minds"...

Ann Althouse said...

@CStanley

LOL.

Once written, twice..youre not too smart are you? Trump is doing what he was elected to do. Perfect? no. But whatever he is, he is an angel compared to the satanic devil criminal Hillary Clinton is. For sure, Clinton would have been impeached and probably in the first 6 months had she been elected.

Once written, twice... said...

Ann, when did you realize that Trump just "makes things up" and says whatever "pops" into his head knowing it is the effect that counts? If you knew this before today, why did you wait to acknowledge it? What is it about today that Trump being a whackadoodle bothered you enough to blog about it?

Michael K said...

I noticed today that Politico now has an article critical of Obama up. That was unheard of before he left office.

I don't see one written or Inga changing their minds about Trump even a tiny amount because leftism is a religion.

Once written, twice... said...

Ann, if I am so much like Trump as you claim, why haven't you spent the last year and a half writing glowingly of me?

I guess Trump trolling the nation is great fun in your eyes but me trolling your blog is beyond the pale.

I note that the first of Bill O'Reilly's podcasts is tonight, Monday, April 24. at 8:00 PM, EST, which is the same time as the first Tucker Carlson at 8:00 PM, EST show on Fox. I suspect Bill is using this as a test of loyalty, but he has forgotten about the ubiquity of recording devices. I will record his podcast and watch Tucker. I think that Bill should change the time of his podcasts in the future. so we can gage Tucker's performance more fairly.

Nope. Once written's game is to get AA to respond personally. He is the middle child who feels he did not get enough attention from Mom. When AA responds to his nonsense, Once has won his game. Matters not how AA responds, as long as she gives him the personal attention he seeks. Just that simple.

Even for a week, it would be great to see all the librul heads explode plus the blondes whose careers were helped along by BOR including Kirsetn Powers, Margaret Hoover [two liberals btw tho Hoover claims she is a conservative, Powers is the actual liberal & was more open minded tha Hoover] and Megyn Kelly who was helped along by Brit Hume and BOR.

Meade, the Dow will be below 20,000 by the midterms elections next year. You can take that to the bank. We could even talk about placing a bet...

What is the correct term for the places where the Nazis killed millions? Death Camps? Concentration camps? I think either is correct but I was not one those outraged by Spicer saying holocaust center.

And I am curious if the average college student or Antifa member knows the correct term too. I doubt they do.

Well, as you know, we're not allowed to use this blog to place real money bets. But I'll take your gentleman's bet for now and I'll make my own prediction, that the Dow Jones, on November 6, 2018, will open closer to 22,500 than to your sub 20,000 prediction.
