"The first thing we're going to do is to go over some of the amenities of The Home Theater Experience."

"Portlandia" has been even greater than usual lately. The Home Theater Experience material from the new episode is the clip I found on line, and AV Club liked it best, but what I really wanted to show you was the "safe bully" part:
[Fred Armisen plays] “The Safe Bully,” who is brought in by a school after a PTA meeting where parents complain that their children don’t have enough grit. He picks on kids, but also helps them up, and even offers them food when they don’t have any lunch money. It’s a lot of cognitive dissonance for the children, but it ultimately works, as within three days, they gain the courage to stand up to him, and his work is done. Amusingly, the parents now complain that their children have too much grit, and they can no longer tell them what to do....

Portlandia is hilarious. I'm pretty sure Armisen and Brownstein are liberal Democrats, but they so far have no let it infect the writing.

They are definitely liberals. The humor is good BECAUSE they are making fun of their own side.

Ok, so SNL and Stern are lame, but this two minute clip is lulz.

Got it.

Carry on.

Anne, perhaps you find Portlandia funny or clever because you haven't been to Portland. The reality at which they poke gentle fun isn't funny or quirky or cool. I find it constantly annoying, and I'm very glad that I no longer have any reason to go there.

BTW, the clip is not about Portland, but I don't find it particularly funny anyway.

Ann - but it is clear there is a qualitative difference between being a liberal and stark-raving-mad insane leftist. Which is on clear display with someone like Madonna or Sarah Silverman.

Eric - in this environment Portlandia is downright subversive and courageous. Imagine poking the dragon.

But we live in Madison, and there are many points of correspondence so we get what is being made fun of and that many of these things are pretty bad in reality (most especially the way the people think they're so good).

Yeah, I've heard there was a time when law professors used to do something like that for their adult law students too.

There's a Quebecois show called Les Bobos, which is about a couple of ridiculous wealthy urban hipsters in Montreal. It's hilarious, I think, but is in particularly impenetrable French. It usually opens with our couple in a painfully hip restaurant with a laughably hip name (Montreal is full of these). Available on YouTube.

Portlandia had been one of the most consistently funny shows ever. I think thr reason that it's been allowed to gently skewer the left for so long is that SJWs and Prius Democrats don't realize how the humour reveals so much of their hypocrisy, illogic and inanity. If they ever figure that out, the show will be toast.

EDH, you're right about that!
