"#CNNLeaks: Project Veritas Releases Over 100 Hours of Audio From Inside CNN."

ADDED: I put up the video before watching it. I've watched it now and I'm not seeing anything significant in the few little clips of audio presented. There's also an invitation to us to go through all the hours and hours of audio at the Project Veritas webpage.

I'm a fan of Project Veritas, but this is just disappointing after the hype of it coming.

"Aid the afflicted and afflict the comfortable"

So that is as important a goal as getting the story? I took a class in journalism and don't recall that being taught at all. What were emphasized were accuracy and readability.

When the hunter becomes the hunted, what happens next?

I'd predict an arms race, but then someone would just say that I was dragging race into it.

Concept is excellent, but what we see so far is pretty weak sauce, tbh. O'Keefe always has more shoes to drop so he can garner more attention as the cycle rolls out.

Interesting how the polls are used to change opinion instead of reflect it.

We always knew it was happening be interesting to see if they still deny it.

This is certainly not a concern troll.

O'Keefe doesn't normally lead with his ace. There will be more.

Seems like a turd sandwich.

The normal pattern for the Left's response to something embarrassing being released by O'Keffe is:

1. Claim the video/audio is "heavily edited", even when he releases the raw material.
2. Claim the embarrassing relevations are "discredited" without ever addressing the issues.
3. Call for a criminal investigation for recording people without their permission.
4. Pretend it never happened.

My guess O'Keefe is waiting for folks to say: "See, there's nothing there," at which point he will drop something big.

Correct as far as the pattern goes, but assuming a capacity for embarrassment not in evidence.

OK. Where is the gotcha?

And O'Keefe drops the 10 of Spades.

Everyone says "Meh".

Tomorrow we'll likely see the Jack of Spades. This will be followed by an even louder "Meh".

Will the following card be the Queen of Spades or the Two of Diamonds? Time will tell.

He is proving the known. As Mika says, It's the media's job to control the thoughts of the Peeps. But since Hollywood News reels began running in the movie Theaters and Edward R. Murrow Radio broadcasts began, that has been happening.

Maybe we are supposed to be shocked that it is all Propaganda.

My favorite Internet experience is the D-Day broadcasts with a quarter to half hour of News followed by the Regular Programs for a half hour.

Then FDR speaks, asking Americans for fasting and prayers. And surprisingly, no one wanted him impeached, even though our valiant ally Soviet Russia was happy with FDR at last.

I would hope and expect hundreds of people to take up his offer. Real transparency in the news organizations would help keep democracy from dying.

Who is more comfortable and self-satisfied than the MSM?

This is pretty much what I expected after the interview(s?) where O'Keefe said he had so many different projects going that he didn't have personnel available to sort through hundreds of hours of videotape and was instead releasing it "WikiLeaks style." With Wikileaks, Assange throws a couple of garbage cans full of documents out of the third story window and it's everyone else's job to sort through the mess to find out if there's anything interesting in it or if it's just a bunch of yoga routines and discussions about wedding plans.

I suspect the main value in this is reminding the talking heads at the networks that their non-objectivity is always vulnerable to exposure, even when the little red light is off.

Kind of hard to think of anything bad they could say that they don't already say live on tv. They've exposed themselves already.

Does that mean it's (fake)^2? Or (-news)x(-news) = news?

How did they avoid identifying the mole, or moles or?? did they lleave bugs around? video bugs? Must be a law against all that, like illegal voting. So there can't be any, by definition.

Kevin said...

I, for one, look forward to the media outrage about "illegal wiretaps", "leaks", and "inaccurate reporting" about the "fake news" generated by these videos.

Left Bank of the Charles said...

Did James O'Keefe also post the tapes before listening to them?

His Project Veritas is offering a $10,000 reward for listening to the 119 hours of tape and finding "content that exposes media malfeasance." That's $84 an hour assuming that you do find something. Presumably he wouldn't need to offer that if he had already listened to the tapes. Or maybe he has listened and knows his money is safe because there is nothing to find.

Bob Loblaw said...

Claim the video/audio is "heavily edited", even when he releases the raw material.

That's what they'd do.

Jay Vogt said...

It's remarkable that the professional journalist muffed the money quote: it's "afflict the comfortable and comfort the the afflicted".

Drago said...

Has anyone pondered the possibility that capturing compromising information from "behind the curtain" at the networks is not really the purpose here?

Oh sure, there will be some tidbits here and there that confirms what has already been established over and over again regarding bias in terms of story selection, tone, focus etc.

But how valuable is this in an era where the mask is already completely off?

No, I think what O'Keefe mentioned later about "we have moles in the newsrooms" is actually the purpose here. To sow dissention and mistrust within the newsrooms.

This is actually a fairly standard counter-intel tactic and I would not be surprised if this is a result of long ago planning between O'Keefe and Bannon while he was at Breitbart.

Drago said...

dissension vs dissention

Birkel said...

I was confused watching that video also. It seemed like a big nothing. Maybe this is the way O'Keefe gets over-commitment in defense of CNN before releasing the real 'gotcha' recordings.

Overall: weak tea.

It was ok to me. He wants to franchise out his type of journalism to fight corrupt journalism at CNN. And he offers some enticement sound bites followed by a monetary award. He needs to summarize his accomplishments somewhere. I've followed a few of his twitter exchanges and he deals with some really dishonest progs who have an organized agenda against him. There is a fight going on there where people who actually love freedom should be banding together to fight progressives.

Anonymous said...

There are people though who will comb through all the video and produce some results.

Richard said...

O'Keefe and Breitbart released the Acorn footage brilliantly. They thought of how the media would respond to each one, and rolled them out in a way that destroyed each media criticism of the previous video.

I hope that it goes down like this, but I'm not so sure. He had to of known how underwhelming this 1st day of footage would be. Maybe he is setting up the media for them to laugh about how there is nothing there before dropping a bomb. But it just doesn't feel like it. And why did he use such an underwhelming day to also appeal to other journalists to send him any evidence of bias?

Kevin said...

"That's why today, we're announcing a $10,000 award for anyone that comes forward with legally obtained materials exposing media malfeasance. If you have hidden audio recordings, video tapes or documents inside of a news room or media institution, and the material is good enough, I will pay you $10,000."

It's not 10k for finding something in the tapes. It's 10k for bringing him new materials.

BTW, shouldn't this post get the "emotional Althouse" tag?

IOW, is being lame an emotion?

The CMP Planned Parenthood series was the most damning and effective of these things.

Note that our new California Senator Kamala Harris used her office as CA Attorney General to harrass and impede CMP's David Daleiden by seizing his computers and databases last year.
If you want a perfect example of a would-be American Soviet apparatchik, Kamala Harris is your girl.

Sure, because it's impossible to imagine that there are a bunch of professional conservatives who make a living sell crap to you folks.

You'd think that there'd be a hint of con-reality-revelation w/ this coming a couple days after the Milo fiasco.

JK.

Of course nobody would expect that from y'all.

Sad!

PB&J,

I asked you a few questions yesterday, because I am curious.
I wonder if you would see fit to answer them.
Basically, why? Whats your point, purpose, what itch is it you are trying to scratch?

He hasn't seen anything particularly spicy either, so he's outsourcing the "get lost in the tall grasses" grind of sifting through all this shite in the hopes that someone else will find it for him.

It provides a modicum of coverage against the "you shit-disturbing weasel, you're only trying to stir up trouble" accusations, since all he's doing is putting the stuff out there in an "information wants to be free!!!!1!!!" sort of way.

It is what it is.

buw,

It's a bit of a humble brag, but the truth is that my typing here is one of three or four tasks that I do simultaneously. This is some sorta distraction/catharsis from stuff that's hard/all-encompassing.

IOW, this site is (literally) a joke, imho. Other (most?) folks get more out of it, which is cool.

Well, ditto, on the nature of the diversion, but still, why? What is the joke?

Sprezzatura said...

buw,

I'm just F-in' around. By definition the nature of it is that it's meant to be on the opposite end of the spectrum from stuff/people that matter and are important to me.

That sounds meaner than I'd like. But, it's true. I'm tapping stuff out on the keyboard. How could that ever matter, to anyone? Not that there's anything wrong w/ folks who do get more out of this sorta thing. But, I don't.

buwaya said...

Well, here we may be getting somewhere. What is the stuff/people that matter and are important to you?

"How could that ever matter, to anyone? "

It does. We are a social species. We are not rocks, immune to soundwaves and digital information. Heck, how you speak to dogs and cats will train them, perhaps inadvertently. Do you have kids? If you did, you would know just how important it is what you say, and how.

And don't discount what effect all this has on you.

I am going to spend the next several days pouring through those tapes looking for more stories of the "affected."

tim maguire said...

"Over 100 hours" of tape is not a tremendous amount. When he says they can't go through it, but then puts up some milquetoast stuff (I listened to about half the video here), one can't help but feel it's all a bit anticlimactic.

The Godfather said...

Jay Vogt (2:05 pm) is right that it's "Comfort the afflicted", etc. The source is from Finley Peter Dunne's "Mr. Dooley", a fictional Irish bartender who comments (sagely but ungrammatically) on the world around him. Mr. Dooley's actual words are:

"Th' newspaper does ivrything f'r us. It runs th' polis foorce an' th' banks, commands th' milishy, controls th' ligislachure, baptizes th' young, marries th' foolish, comforts th' afflicted, afflicts th' comfortable, buries th' dead an' roasts thim aftherward. They ain't annything it don't turn its hand to fr'm explainin' th' docthrine iv thransubstantiation to composin' saleratus biskit."

A "newsman" ought to know intuitively that the word must be "comfort" to parallel "the comfortable". A good newsman ought to know that in its original context the phrase was not intended to praise the press, but to criticize it for pretending knowledge of so many matters beyond its competence.

The Godfather said...

BTW the first time I ever heard someone use the phrase "Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable", it was a Lutheran pastor who had established in his downtown church a shelter for homeless women, which he wanted to expand and develop into a program to provide a range of services for homeless women. He was opposed very vigorously by the newly-arrived residents of the gentrifying neighborhood around the church. I think the pastor was entitled to use the phrase as he did (even though it wasn't what Mr. Dooley meant), but the CNN guy wasn't.

We won, by the way.

If it's all so easy for you, then would't it be a better diversion if you put a bit of thought into your posts? Shit-stirrer is a common enough past-time and there's nothing dreadfully wrong with it, but your humble would be bragging bigger if you did a better job of it.

You would think he's got more... because ~100 hours isn't much... if there's a shocker in there he would have found it.

This has got to be the setup, because if there's nothing else there then O'Keefe his trashed his reputation.
