Jim Brown still has some serious street cred.

With Kanye West and Jim Brown, hopefully Trump will make good inroads with the black community. The goal is for blacks to vote 30% GOP, 70% Dem -- which is similar to other minorities. Smashing groupthink and identity bloc voting would be healthy for both parties (although it would be initially painful for the Dems).

This is the beauty of having a man who really loves his country, has not been a politician his entire life, has actually held a job and hired people, and is a natural born Citizen as POTUS, rather than one born of an alien father, who seeks to validate the dreams of the Marxist alien father, who views himself as a "citizen of the world", and who wishes to "transform" the US into something foreign.

Trump is the Grey Champion of the 4th Turning.

Based on his cabinet choices, Trump aims for results not just good intentions. I wish him well. The African American community is drowning in good intentions. Positive results delivered by Trump and a Republican congress with be a game changer. If Trump can show even modest improvement for young, male AA's it will be the greatest nightmare of the left come true.

I expect the media and elected officials with a D after their names to do all they can to subvert the effort and any reporting of positive results.

I find it fascinating, that there is such a 1950's/1960's quality about Donald Trump. Trump talks about General Patton, doubtlessly based on the 1970 movie. Trump's other cultural references are filled with 1950/60 notions. And Jim Brown was without a doubt the greatest running back (and maybe the greatest athlete in America) in the late 50's and early 60's.

My Scott Adamsian analysis: Thus far the pattern has been, Trump invites (summons) a personality to The Tower. In some cases, it's an unlikely personality, causing bemusement and concern amongst many. After meeting with Trump, the person in question effuses positively about him. Trump charmed the pants off of them. It's more a PR campaign then anything else.

Of course discerning the pattern means that Trump now has to change it.

Paddy O said...

Great to see. May it bear fruit. Getting change requires going around the entrenched corruption and it becomes clear who wants to help the poor vs who wants to help themselves by talking about helping the poor. Like I said in the past, I hope I was wrong about Trump and this is the kind of indication that encourages me in that hope.

Just think how nice race relations could have been if Black Jesus had done half the outreach Trump is doing! He ain't even IN office yet and already he's healing the divided nation. Progressives heads are going to explode with disbelief and rage at their loss of control over the Plantation.

I'm thinking there will be a gradual transition of "heartland" Democrats becoming Republicans during Trump's term as his policies pay off and draw praise from the people who really do want to see America be great. The Strong horse theory applies here as well.

They said that before the election. But Trump didn't do much of anything, to "win" black votes. Trump still only got about seven or eight percent of the black vote. He may have done very marginally better than Mitt Romney, but of course Trump wasn't running against Black Jesus Barack.

Trump likely won, because the black voters who support Democrats 90 to 95%, didn't turn out like they did for Obama.

Wrong wrong wrong. He went to the inner cities and said that Blacks "had nothing to lose" by switching parties because the Democrats just talk about change but don't bring it. Maybe that pitch didn't resonate with you. But it was in the news a lot. People said it was talking down to Blacks. Apparently you missed this and other moves he made because you were so busy examining what he said to an entertainment reporter in private 10 years ago when Trump was a randy democrat. So you missed that. And you don't know what "marginally" means if you're using it that context.

Here again lifelong Republican Chuck shits on the Republican president-elect with myths and misdirection manufactured by progressive media. Digging that Kool-Ade aren't you Chuckie!

Apparently you also missed the fact he got a higher percentage of Black votes since 1960, easily 50% HIGHER than Mitt's total. You missed that too. (The math is 21>13, dumbass.)

He basically said: "They mean well, but have things gotten better? Give me a shot; I can't do worse." Which, for people who are at the bottom, is a pitch they might listen to. I don't give a flying fuck what you think Donald Trump did, or said, to convince black people to vote for him. They didn't; not in any significantly different way from how they have (not) voted for Republicans.

And it is not fair, comparing black votes in 2016 to 2012 or 2008. Romney and McCain didn't have to run against Black Jesus Barack. But even then, Trump didn't do much better. Trump did better, only by default. Black voters didn't turn out, for Hillary.

It was THE DIFFERENCE in Michigan. There were more than 130,000 fewer votes cast in Wayne County, Michigan in 2016 than in 2012. Trump won the entire state by less than 11,000 votes. Between them, Trump and Clinton produced about 80,000 presidential "undervotes." (People who voted, but who made no choice for president.) Trump turned off a lot of voters who could not bear to vote for a Dem. And Hillary inspired a lot of black voters to not vote at all.

Where are you getting your 2016 black-voter stats?

The Left has thrown a smorgasbord of charges at Trump (racist, sexist, homophobe, crass, vulgar, billionaire).

But, to my knowledge, he has never once said a derogatory thing about blacks. That's a false charge, and black leaders know this.

Most blacks aspire to the same Middle Class status (home, car, work, good schools, safe streets) as whites. A small portion of the hardened inner city blacks, such as the drug-dealing gangbangers, cause most of the problems.

If Trump can move the political needle in the black community from 8% GOP to 30% GOP - its natural resting place -- much progress will be made.

The BBC analysis appears to support C's 8% assertion. We both agree the drop from 93% to 88% in support from Obama to Clinton made a big difference in the Black vote. I was actually looking for state by state data, because I know there were some precincts where Trump actually got a larger percentage than the 13% I saw elsewhere. Hmmm. Total participation among Black voters dropped from 13% nationally to 12%, which is significant in light of the increased White turnout.

Considering that Jim Brown is a a good friend of Bill Cosby, this Jim Brown snippet from a February 1968 interview with Alex Haley, published in Playboy is interesting.

Haley: It's fairly common knowledge that you've long been the target of demonstrative admiration by many female football fans. Is it just coincidence that most of them happen to be white?

Brown: You're just tipping around the edges of the big question at the bottom of the mind of every white man in this country: "What about you blacks and white women?" Right? Well, OK, let's talk straight about that. I'll tell you the very first thing that always knocks me out about that question. Why is there always the implication that the white woman is just mesmerized, just helpless, if she's with a black man? Everybody knows the smart, hip, 20th century white woman is in complete control of herself and does exactly what she damn well wants to do and nothing else. So what's the reason the white man has her pictured in his mind as hypnotized and helpless with a black man? The other thing that bugs me about that question is the assumption by the average white man that any black man he sees with any white woman has got to be sleeping with her. To me, that instant assumption tells me a lot more about that white man than it does about the black man—or the white woman. Let's assume he's right that a lot of white women are either openly or secretly attracted to black men. It happens to be true—but let's ask ourselves why. Well, the answer is that the white man himself has made his woman this attracted to us.

Haley: How?

Brown: For generations, he has painted the black man as such an animal that it's not only natural but inevitable that the white woman's mind occupies itself with this big, exciting taboo. And, yeah, a lot of them do more than think about it; they decide to find out. And when they do, they find that the black man isn't the gorilla the white man has painted; that he may be as much of a gentleman as any man she has known and may even pay her more respect than her own kind. You can't blame her for responding—and you can't blame him for responding to her, because he's the same man who for 300 years couldn't open his mouth or he would die, while he saw the white man having sex as he pleased with the black woman. Let me tell you something interesting to do. Every time you see a Negro from now on, just take note of his complexion. See how few are jet black and reflect how all the Africans brought over here were jet black. It might help you to do some thinking about who genetically changed the color of a whole race of people, diluted them from black Africans not into black Americans but into Negroes; even the word is a white man's creation, a stigma, a kind of proper form for "nigger." Historically, there's been about a thousand times more sex between white men and black women than between black men and white women—and a thousand times more black man-white woman sex goes on in white men's minds than ever does in fact. And I'm not in the least criticizing where it is fact. I believe that whatever any two consenting adults—black or white—do in their own privacy, without causing harm to any other party, is entirely their own business. The white man may consider it his business; in fact, most do; but I don't feel that it's mine!

The last I heard of Jim Brown he was pitching white women down flights of stairs when they refused to go on a three-way with him.

In the period of a few months in 1995, two girls accused Brown of molesting them. One refused to press charges, but the other took her case to court. After Brown was acquitted, she tried again with a paternity suit—and lost that, too.

Haley: Speaking of babies, you were once the defendant in a paternity suit filed by an 18-year-old Cleveland girl. Though you were subsequently exonerated, it didn't exactly enhance your public image. What were the details of the case?

Brown: Actually, I was sued for assault and battery. Then the same party sued me for paternity. I figured, hell, I'm strong enough to fight it out publicly, and that's what I did. I sat a week in that hot courtroom, missing a number of important commitments. It never would have gone to court if I had been guilty; I would have dealt with it the way a man should deal with a thing of that nature. Anybody who doubts that doesn't know me.

Mike I don't know where you and I stand at this point, in the debate over Trump's black voters.

I think the consensus is that Trump got about 8% of the black vote in 2016. With a markedly reduced turnout among black voters.

Gallup then supplies us with the pre-'16 black voter results in presidential elections:

Romney '12 5%
McCain '08 1%
Bush '04 7%
Bush '00 3%

Then before 2000, Gallup used a broader category, "Nonwhite," to classify that voting group. And the numbers are predictably larger:
Dole '96 12%
Bush '92 11%
Bush '88 18%
Reagan '84 13%
Reagan '80 10%
Ford '76 '15%

Blacks don't vote for Republicans in any decent numbers. Even if it is Donald Trump, playing the part of a Republican on tv.

Black turnout matters greatly, insofar as they are such a freakishly reliable Democrat voting machine. For the first time in American history, in 2008 (Obama I), black voter turnout nearly equaled white voter turnout. For the first time in American history, in 2012 (Obama II), black voter turnout exceeded white voter turnout. Game. Over.

In 2016, black voter turnout declined (maybe, for the first time in American history; I don't know). Game. On.

None of this proves, or even has anything to do with, Donald Trump making any sort of special Trumpian appeal to blacks.

I wonder how accurate the exit polls can be because we spend the next four years pointing to their findings as if they were flawless.

Right on, AJ. I've been voting since 1968, and nobody has ever asked me who I voted for.

In the same way that Trump was going to lose in a landslide to Hillary!, "lifelong republican" Chuck now exhibits utterly static thinking in regards to the intent and potential of the most revolutionary candidate to ever seek and win the Presidency!

"lifelong republican" Chuck is a "little" thinker and will never be anything more.

Conrad Black has a most interesting take on things: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/443011/donald-trump-revolution

Of course, Conrad Black is clearly not as astute an observer as "lifelong republican" Chuck, but still worth a read.

Not long ago "lifelong Republican" Chuck was assuring us there was no way Trump would win Michigan. Impossible! Chuck knows! He lives there!

"Chuck now exhibits utterly static thinking in regards to the intent and potential of the most revolutionary candidate to ever seek and win the Presidency!"

I'm reminded of a Dylan lyric: "Because something is happening here but you don't know what it is,do you, Mr. Jones?"

What a great man, amazing NFL athlete (some say he was the best LACROSSE player ever to live), open mindedness at 80 is huge. Hopefully Trump can lift everyone up, which I believe he wants to do.

Is there a precedent for the level of activity from a president elect in our recent memory? Even during the depths of the 2008-2009 stock market free fall I don't think we saw Obama this visibly engaged in public relations, cabinet selections etc. Sure there was the usual press admirers opinion Obama should take the reigns of power while Bush was in office, but I don't remember this level of activity from a president elect.

Agree!! Brown was awesome in "The Dirty Dozen"!!

As usual, you display your lack of ability to understand (either that, or to honestly represent) what you have read. You're just too eager, always, to shoe-horn your pet grievances into any comments or replies to comments you deposit here.

I'm not talking to or about African Americans, at least, not specifically. I'm referring to all of us who are not among the plutocrats who will be served by Trump's government of plutocrats.

I have once again started scrolling quickly past chuck's comments.

Vicki shows what leftist white women think about the problems of black Americans. Nothing.

Jim Brown, as others pointed out, is no pushover for politicians. I think it significant what he said about Trump.

Wanna bet Obama's cabinet has/had a higher net worth than Trump's?

Wanna bet it had as many or more Wall Street types?

Aren't you curious as to why the last big Wall Street corruption case was brought eight years ago?

I like to imagine Vickie up there in the morning haze typing away, the bougainvillea dripping, waiting for the sun to clear the hill. Pasadena is white as white can be, excepting the Mexicans clipping away there at the hedge. It is lovely to be in Pasadena, high up there above ...what?....it all.

The Vickis of the world have to discredit the Jim Browns; the future of the Democratic party depends on it.

As Scott Adams noted in one of his recent blog posts, the problem that the Democrats have is one of cognitive dissonance. They've been bleating on about President-elect Trump being the new Hitler, and it's pretty obvious to anyone that meets with him that that is not the case. This means either that he's not just a monster but a terribly charming monster, or else everything they've been saying is a lie. The latter idea shakes their worldview to its foundation, which means that the only alternative to accepting it is hallucinate things that are even more monstrous.

It appears that President-elect Trump understands the psychological affect on potential opponents of talking to them and listening to their concerns. Such a display of empathy is a very disarming thing for someone who goes into such a meeting prepared to find a monster and then discovers someone who says he wants to work with them to help improve things for them and the people they represent.

He did the same thing in meeting with the tech sector bosses today, people who almost all supported Hillary Clinton, no doubt. It had to have been a big cognitive dissonance moment for most of them. But making America great again will take the efforts of everyone, Republican, Democrat or independent. I am hopeful, for the first time in a long time, that perhaps a new direction will benefit our nation.

Noted conspiracy-theorist Cookie: "I'm not talking to or about African Americans, at least, not specifically. I'm referring to all of us who are not among the plutocrats who will be served by Trump's government of plutocrats"

It appears that not only are the Russians hacking our elections and the "wreckers" destroying the leftist peoples paradise in Venezuela but someone, somehow, has jedi-mind-tricked Cookie into forgetting what the thread topic actually is.

Well, it was probably the plutocrats!

"plutocrats"!

Just saying it makes me want to simultaneously pickup a "Stay out of the War" (WWII) sign as well as a "Second Front Now" sign so that, like Cookie, I would be prepared to turn my principles on a dime in order to support whatever that days narrative should be as determined by the Comintern!

Again, workers of US (like Venezuela) unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains....and food...and water....and medicine....and electricity....

I completely agree with Clyde's thoughtful post. For the first time in a long time - I think we might have a chance to hope our ship of state is turning to a new direction that inspires ....you know....hope and change.

The Looney Left only do politics to "Feel Good". All of the sudden in my Madison WI hood I'm seeing Peace Flags waving...they've been in a box in the basement since 2008. But now - groupthink alert - We want World Peace Now....but let's go to war with Russia to start a war we can be against? Yikes.

Suddenly Trump is a war monger re: ISIS, Hitler-esque, birth control banning tyrant, evil woman hater and .....every other Boogie Man that motivates the frankly challenged in "History" and critical thinking DemBots that really still (insanely) think the Democrats are for "the little guy" and the Republicans are for "the mean old rich guys".

The worst thing anyone privileged to vote in America should be motivated by is to "feel good" (Clinton "I "feel" your pain). The best thing every one voting in USA should do is look at their damn paycheck stub (now only available online - ugh) to really see how mush Big Government - European Style - is costing them.

Things like paychecks do eventually fall apart folks. Worst possible model for USA was the Obama/Hillary push to "Be More Like Europe" to redistribute all that wealth of the elite - which - if you make over $40,000 a year you are a global member of now).

Remember Obama's and Dems failed Cap and Trade bill? Would have cost my family thousands of dollars to be allowed to sell our Madison WI house (specific electric outlets for electric autos installed in garages a requirement for selling a house? - we don't even have a garage - holy granoli).

I wasn't Trump (Cruz) but now that he's in - I am seeing so much clarity in events that signal how things might really become amazingly different in USA from Europe.

To me - this is a really good thing for many millions of Americans - waiting to see how it goes.

If the President Elect invites you to a private meeting, you're relevant. Anyone not knowing Jim Brown is a serious man, doesn't know Jim Brown.

I have been in Cambridge the last few days. Hillary country. Just about everybody here seems pretty rich. The plutocrats were all on Hillary's side. We'll see what Trump does with a free hand. He owes them nothing.

Henry Kissinger (I think) long ago pointed out how the communists in Hollywood self identified when Hitler invaded the USSR. They flipped their stance on war 180 degrees in one day. It was easy.

According to the Int'l Business Times Trump increased Republican share of the Black vote 33% in relative terms, from 6% in 2012 to 8% in 2016. (Note this, like Chuck's math, still requires comparing election years, so I still don't understand what he was on about earlier.)

That provides a raw vote increase of Black voters for Trump of about 350,000. This is enough to provide the margin for victory in some flipped states. I stand by my assertion that 33% increase for Republicans is a significant number for Trump. It certainly is a move in the right direction IMO.

I once worked with a guy who had a short NFL career as a backup linebacker for the Washington Redskins. He said that people hated to play against Jim Brown. Brown didn't try to avoid tackles, he turned into them and punished the tackler. By the fourth quarter nobody wanted the plays to come their way.

Kinda reminds me of the orange guy.
