Every time a pundit predicts something on TV, I hope someone else there asks: You were so very badly, egregiously, wrong, with Trump. What did you learn from that and why should anyone believe you now?
That video was well done. As a conservative who was forced to choose the lesser evil - as pertaining to our constitutional republic - I hope he acts to reduce Leviathan's reach.
That is all I want and all the federal government should do.
Make birth control OTC, for example, as Republicans wanted and Democrats blocked. Less intrusion into the private sphere would be welcomed relief.
Less intrusion into local issues such as education and law enforcement too.
Etc.
Many will say that cannot be done. Watch the video again before you lay down your marker, I say.
I've watched that video, and variations of it, many times and it still makes me smile. It's been a very schadenfreude-y week, especially living in deep blue Northern California.
I, too, love the choice of Grieg's In The Hall of the Mountain King from the Peer Gynt suite. It's even funnier when you realize that Grieg wrote that piece as a subtle satire of arch-Norwegian nationalists. From a letter of his on the piece:
For "The Hall of the Mountain King" I have written something that so reeks of cowpats, ultra-Norwegianism, and "to thy self-be-enoughness" that I literally can't bear to hear it, though I hope that the irony will make itself felt.
Of course the mocking worked fine for almost 3 decades. Who would have thought he'd still want the job in his seventies?
His genius was intuiting that he could get away with never releasing his tax returns four years after bugging Romney to release his. Said again on 60 Minutes he will release them after his routine audit is done. Never happening.
I'm still laughing. I voted for Trump and I'm eternally grateful to him (and awkwardly, Obama) for keeping the Clinton shitbags from returning to the White House. I even think Trump may very well be a pretty decent President by 21st century standards. But if you'd told me 2 years ago that Donald Trump would be the next President of the United States, I would have laughed in your face. I'm happy, but it's undeniably bizarre.
Donald Trump talked about the reality that so many Americans were experiencing - and all the Talking Heads tried to make a joke out of it.
And then, when it became clear that no one else was going to take that reality seriously (once Bernie was shuffled off the stage by the DNC), and Trump began his steady rise in the polls, the Talking Heads tried to explain that as "Deplorables".
There had to be massive vote fraud for the Dems in several urban areas for Hillary - the election was not as close as it looks.
Ignoring the voters possibly is not the best strategy in a constitutional democracy. What a shock.

Spectacular. This is why I love reading the comments here.
Reminds me of Ed Driscoll's post this morning on Instapundit about The Wire -- apparently the creators intended it to be a condemnation of capitalism.
PackerBronco thanks, what a treat. I'd like to see Melania in that outfit. For all the talk of inequality today amazing how much the early days of talkies were dominated by men and women in evening clothes.
Make birth control OTC, for example, as Republicans wanted and Democrats blocked. Less intrusion into the private sphere would be welcomed relief
In other words, politicize it. Have the government intrude into the medical sphere and make the distribution of powerful hormones based on political considerations rather than an assessment of the medical condition of the person taking those hormones.
I admit I laughed. Its the 1st time I've found any of these clowns funny.
And its interesting to see Colbert in that clip. I didn't realize he was such a patronizing douche - but then I haven't watched him for years. He was funny 5 years ago as a satirical Bill O' Reilly
The ridicule weapon was fired at Trump at will with unlimited ammo provided by MSM and the Dying Newspapers and funded by ads paid for by the Donors of both Parties. But the winner spent 18 months withstandingbeing targeting by that firepower, and standing up to it for the sake of The Deplorables. That display of endurance and courage finally created a bond of mutual trust with those Americans.
In the end the rural voters in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin, who had not bothered to vote because Dem Metro area bloc votes had made them eunuchs in their states for 40 years, got up and out and voted because they felt the loyalty they owed back to Trump.
I never understood why it was supposed to be so funny, the idea that Donald Trump would run for President. He had the name recognition and the money. And it's not like anyone else who planned to run on the GOP side, and did run, would bring anything spectacular to the game. Either not well known or too well known or out of it too long or not in it long enough or just dull or too careful.
That's what's so funny. They're so sure. So confident. And so wrong. Who are these people??
P.S. Here's hoping that one thing President Trump will avoid doing is what President Obama did here, which is mock and ridicule any American citizen. Or anybody else for that matter. It's beneath the dignity of the office.
Noel Coward wrote some great humor lines in the genre of a rich English aristocrat and his friends who were navigating among a sea of deplorable social climbers.
But his Hero was not supposed to lose. His class status and his money were a magic power. But this Damn commoner with immigrant parents who did hard common work was not supposed to win anything. That's only in America...the same America Trump wants to make great again.
it's because the left is made up of smug assholes, particularly in the media. They aren't particularly funny, but they do, amongst themselves, enjoy a good laugh at the expense of normal regular people - the people Trump stood up for and who elected him, and the same people they're now aiming their vitriol. These are small petty people. Not elites, but elitists.
The funniest part is that these assholes lack even the basic self-awareness that it was their insufferable condescension that helped get Trump elected by turning so many people off to their points of view - points of view that may have been persuasive coming from a different angle. In the end, though, the joke is on them. We all get the last laugh, particularly Trump.

Perhaps you don't know what "OTC" stands for?
The proposal is literally the exact opposite of what you say. (Yes, literally literally.)
His genius was intuiting that he could get away with never releasing his tax returns four years after bugging Romney to release his. Said again on 60 Minutes he will release them after his routine audit is done. Never happening.
Please keep bringing this up. This is clearly the most powerful argument against Trump. Don't stop speaking truth to power.
Show me a single vanquished candidate from either party whose lifetime achievements greatly outweighed those of Trump himself? All I saw were mostly a lot of lifetime politicians- I don't view that as being a qualification for being president. I always took Trump seriously after his announcement last year- more people should have. Now, I didn't think he had a chance to win the nomination until late December, but after he won New Hampshire, I knew he would be the nominee, and except for the period immediately following the Access Hollywood tape, I thought his odds were no worse than 50%. My main worry about him losing was I thought it quite possible he would win the popular vote and lose the electoral one.
The people media who are supposed to understand politics don't seem qualified to me to be reporting it. That video demonstrates this better than most.
Somewhat off topic, but the song They All Laughed was written by George and Ira Gershwin, and the Astaire-Rogers movie it was featured in was called Shall We Dance.

That's the best of the Astaire-Rogers movies!
This was back when Hollywood was teaching men how to dance
as opposed to shooting people in the face
I rank it #4 in my movie book.
Easily the funniest of the Astaire-Rogers musicals. Astaire cracks me up with his Petrov routine. Edward Everett Horton is a hoot. Everybody thinks Fred and Ginger are married and not married and married and not married and married and not married, then they decide to get married so they can get a divorce, and then they fall in love. Their dancing is amazing, a perfect union of man and woman. Frickin' awesome. And a score by the Gershwins.
Mark, maybe you aren't aware, but China, India, Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Brail, Portugal, South Africa, Korea and Russia are a few of the countries where women can get birth control pills without a prescription.

Boy, I hope Colbert, Oliver,Schumer and ask of their pals campaign for the next Democrat as hard as they did for HRC. Pretty please.
I guess folks should take a tip from Trump and just deny they ever said things that have been recorded in multiple media. It seems to work.
Or readering, just have the democrats and the democrat media lie about your for months, that can work as well. Heh..
Ann Coulter got the last laugh, didn't she?

Ann Coulter and Milo are probably still partying.....

Well, whatever Trump does to piss me off in the coming years, I do enjoy seeing all the right people getting their comeuppance.

I prefer this clip
Damn it PacBronk, beat me to it...
But they will never learn.
Not only did Trump insult his way to the presidency, he also memed his way there.
I don't know what lesson to take from this, but... I do like watching smug hubris deflate.

@Clint,
Thank you!
I'm glad that you find my life's work of collecting totally useless information sometimes to be amusing.
Sorry to say I missed all that. I think I've turned my TV on 10 times this year, and every time was the same exact rerun of three and half men.
Now, seriously, "They All Laughed" is one of my favourite movies

Trump is a magnificent leader. Deal with it.
Mark:
What a fabulous world you inhabit.
Nice work here. (just 40 seconds) Also sweet. (in both senses)
"At least I'll go down as a president."
That's the best. Great video!
Now, seriously, "They All Laughed" is one of my favourite movies.
Extremely enjoyable offbeat movie. It's a great Cole Porter tune, too.
He who laughs last, laughs best.
I meant Gershwin of course.

'Politicize it', Mark?!
Which three states currently allow women to buy birth control without a doctor's prescription?
Answer: The deep, deep red states of Washington, Oregon and California.

The Rolling Stones are suing Donald Trump, by the way.
I can't wait for their next hit song...
The Government Is Stealing Our Music!

Funny clip, well done. When you see it spliced together like that it's like stepping into the bubble and you see why people were so shocked.
Seth Myers is particularity loathsome. I want a girl to knee him in the balls.
Saint Croix said...The Rolling Stones are suing Donald Trump
Trump licensed the music. He paid for its use.
If the band shows that they have legal limitations on usage, then they can sue those who issued a license for use.
Thank you , Ann. Wonderful video. The only thing missing is an exploding liberal head at the end!
