50 years ago today — the highest scoring game in NFL history: Redskins vs. Giants, 72-41.

No messing around with field goals. There was only one, and it only happened because the Giants quarterback goofed:
With the Giants trailing 69-41, a shell-shocked [Tom] Kennedy lost track of downs. With just seven seconds remaining and thinking it was third down, Kennedy threw the ball out of bounds so he could run out the clock on one final play to end his team’s misery. Unfortunately for the young quarterback, his throw took place on fourth down and, as a result, New York turned the ball over to the Redskins at their own 23-yard-line.

I think the Redskins should demand a recount.

Actually, it was 3rd down, but the Russians changed the scoreboard, because that's what they do.

Hey, how about a trigger warning.

Giants Fan.

I am now going to my safe space to cuddle with a puppy.

PS: Someone send a puppy stat.

Going for a gimme field goal with 5 seconds on the board and your team up by 28 points ("practice" my ass) shows no class at all.

There was nobody but staff at Kroger yesterday afternoon, and no traffic.

A central Ohio interest I never understood in football.

Meanwhile in college football yesterday: Pittsburgh 76 Syracuse 61.

The college record is 222-0.

Georgia Tech vs Cumberland

Tech ran 29 offensive plays, all rushes, for 501 total yards

Cumberland finished with negative 28 yards

and 15 turnovers

nine fumbles, six interceptions

(on the plus side, Cumberland is #4 on the list of law schools that produced a Supreme Court Justice, right behind Harvard, Yale, and Columbia)

Wow, what a bizarre game. You look at the score and you expect Washington's Sonny Jurgenson to have thrown 40 times for 500 yards.

He threw 16 times for 145 yards. Washington did rush for 200 yards, a lot, but hardly a staggering amount.

That Ohio State-Michigan game was a nail-biter. Speaking of poor losers, I was happy to see Harbaugh defeated.

Colorado came through and will play my beloved Huskies in the Pac 12 Championship. :-)

With any luck, the Seattle Sounders will get their asses handed to them, today, by Colorado. I'm rooting for Colorado largely because of sentimental attachment to Sébastien Le Toux but mostly because I find Seattle's colors to be so objectionably horrid that it makes me suspect that I might actually be a very, very closeted homosexual.

Yeah, 4th :)

Tied with 7 other schools
- Albany
- Cincinnati
- Indiana
- Northwestern
- Stanford
- Virginia
- Washington and Lee

and of course behind the 2 schools with 3 Justices
-- Litchfield
-- Michigan

so that 4th. The one placed somewhere between 6 and 13.

Loser championship of the west,

Meanwhile my alma mater eked out a win yesterday, insuring an embarrassing loss in some podunk "bowl game" and probably another year of futility under the most incompetent coach in the Power 5 conferences.

The explanation makes no sense: Passing out of bounds so that "he could run out the clock on one final play to end his team’s misery."

He may have passed but no for that reason.

"Redskins win 72-41"

Hardly. The Giants really won the game, because they had more 3rd down conversions.

Curious George, I was thinking the same thing. One throws out of bounds to STOP the clock, not run it out.

And I'll bet the game lasted less than two hours.

damn it! just can't trust the internet anymore

okay, Day was at Michigan for one year

and Litchfield was unaccredited and offered no degrees

I imagine "no law school" might still be kicking Harvard's ass, if we're ranking non-law schools

you're not going to beat me 222-0. I got skills.
