"On Oct. 24, Trump’s team began placing spots on select African American radio stations."

"In San Antonio, a young staffer showed off a South Park-style animation he’d created of Clinton delivering the 'super predator' line (using audio from her original 1996 sound bite), as cartoon text popped up around her: 'Hillary Thinks African Americans are Super Predators.' The animation will be delivered to certain African American voters through Facebook 'dark posts'—nonpublic posts whose viewership the campaign controls so that, as Parscale puts it, 'only the people we want to see it, see it.' The aim is to depress Clinton’s vote total. 'We know because we’ve modeled this,' says the official. 'It will dramatically affect her ability to turn these people out.'"

From "Inside the Trump Bunker, With 12 Days to Go/Win or lose, the Republican candidate and his inner circle have built a direct marketing operation that could power a TV network—or finish off the GOP" at Bloomberg Businessweek. Parscale is Brad Parscale, who, we are told, is the "up-from-nothing striver" who runs Donald Trump’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Democrats: Trump is a 'super predator'

How is that different from other targeted advertising on Facebook?

What's racist about saying there are "super predators" out there? It happens to be true and unless I missed something where is the connection to race?

Or do we have to assume that anyone talking about "super predators" must mean black people, because come on, black people?

Pretty sure the context was the crack epidemic, which was, mostly, a black thing. Certainly the criminal part was. And that was exactly what she was talking about. Now it is a hate fact.

If Trump had done things like this 6 months ago, before things got so poisoned, I think that something interesting could have happened. Now, it's far too little, too late. Just another missed opportunity in this clusterfuck of them. This could have been an amazing election for conservatives, if only.

Franklin said...

I'd love for Trump to win like this, primarily so I can post: "The Democrats started the Isentity Politics War, and as usual it was left to the Republicans to end it."

Brando said...

Sounds like a stretch--it happens to be true that high-crime communities are plagued by superpredators. Maybe it's not PC to point that out in this day and age, where the fault is always somehow the White System, but sheesh. Though I guess if the Left is going to use it on the Right it is only fair that it splashes back at them.

Whether this will work, though--seems very 11th hour. We're at a point where a lot of people already voted, and opinions have calcified. The time for a "black outreach" or even a "black nonvoting" strategy was months ago.

It is like Italians resenting being called Mafia by the Anglo-Saxons. "And it's those Sicilans anyway, not us."

The panel of black intelligentsia on MSNBC was going on and on last night about Trump insulting blacks by acting like they all lived in inner city ghettos, while it is only 42% of them.

The only honest one then basically said, yes but Trump is right about the 42% being abandoned by Democrat Party.

This telling the truth thing is working for Trump, when it never worked for a politician before. The man has great skills.

From 'The Community of Color Gazette':

"Man of Color Wonders What It Would Be Like Not To Live In a Ghetto"

Kirk Jackson, a Black Man of our Community of Color, was overheard at his local bar wondering what it would be like to not live in the f**king ghetto.

Mr. Jackson confirmed the statement.

"I'm tired of it, man. People are always stealing your shit and pissing in your doorway, all that low-life stuff. People outside the hood don't have to put up with that sh*t."

Wanda Johnson, bartender at the bar, affirmed Mr. Jackson's statement.

"Kirk was p*ssed. Some a**hole brothers broke the window of his car to steal sh*t, and if you know Kirk, he ain't got sh*t to steal."

Lewis Jones, a fellow patron of the bar, concurred.

"Kirk has a sweet 1982 Ciera: he takes real good care of that car. Now the window's busted and he ain't got the money to fix it."

Mr. Jones added to his statement.

"I don't know if it was the Brothers, though. We got a lot of Mexicans in the hood now."

Wanda Johnson confirmed Mr. Jones' statement.

"We do got a lot of Mexicans now. We even got Mexican graffiti on the side of the bar. At least I think it's Mexican, I sure as Hell can't read it."

Mr. Jackson added to his comment.

"I'd move out of here, but I ain't got the money to do that. The Police only protect your sh*t if you got money."

Mr. Jones questioned Mr. Jackson's statement.

"Aw, if we lived outside the hood, anytime some sh*t happened to a white person, the Police would think we did it."

Wanda Johnson agreed with Mr. Jones' statement.

"I even go to a white neighborhood, the Police are right there to ask me questions. 'Why am I there', sh*t like that."

Mr. Jackson's made a final comment about the situation.

"All I know is if I find some*ssholes messing with my car again I'm gonna shoot the f*ckers, that's what I'm gonna do."

So there it is: a Story of Change in our Community of Color. For more stories like this please read 'The Community of Color Gazette'.

Trump's doing a product rollout.

You do a bit of advertising to let the public know the product's out there - but in the last couple of weeks before the rollout you start advertising hard.

We'll see if it works.

I saw the breakdown of one poll that gave Clinton a 2% lead, and when I got to the Black vote I just stared. It had 15% of that vote going to Trump. I can't believe that. But Bloomberg's latest poll has Trump getting 10% of the Black vote and Hillary getting 83%. I'm not sure I believe that either, but it's an interesting trend. How does a Republican get Black votes? You campaign for them. What a concept!

I think Hillary actually did call blacks in specific "Super Predators" back in the 90's. This isn't a new attack from Trump, I think Bernie tried it as well. Certainly Obama did back in 08.

I'd say it's foul play, but cmon: Trump is entitled to hit below the belt a bit, since Hillary's campaign team and the media (the one and the same) have done nothing but hit below the belt.

Name one attack Hillary has made on Trump on policy instead of "Pussy!" No one can, not an attack that has received any attention. I think she said something about putting people on the Supreme court to enable progressive politics forever, but that's it.

The polls have shown him with as little as 0% and as much as 15% of the black vote. It isn't likely to be either of those extremes--no Republican since the '70s got above 15% of the black vote, and with Obama not on the ballot it isn't likely to go below 5%--but it should be in the high single digits. The thing to watch is overall black turnout.

I fear you are correct. Trump is a disaster. I want to believe in his acumen in some sphere --say, business, which he touts-- but so much of what he says and does is so appalling that, were he a candidate for "The Apprentice," he'd have been fired before Round 1.

African American radio stations.

The (skimmed, well, 'find-on-page(d)') article doesn't mention any given radio station(s), so would that be African radio stations in America, or American radio stations in Africa?

They must mean American radio stations in Africa since "Africans chuckle at ugly US election."

The polls are showing some odd things. I think the polls are adjusted to match vote adjusted vote totals.

Clinton is winning overall but trump is getting 10-15% of the black vote.

Clinton is winning overall but trump is winning independents by double digits in most.

Clinton is winning overall but trump is outperforming Romney among Hispanics.

Clinton got fewer votes during the primary votes when she won in 2016 than when she lost in 2008.

If any of these are true it would signal a blowout win for trump, much less all of them. I think people understand how amoral you have to be to vote for Clinton. I just don't see that many people voting for her or any enthusiasm to do so.

I'm incredibly suspicious about a lot of this talk, because no Republican operative would call it "voter suppression," like I've seen quoted.

That's... that's like if a Democrat operative were to talk about abortion and call it "murder." It's a keyword that keys you in a lot, and the fact that someone called it voter suppression is raising all kinds of BS flags.

I had that same thought. Why on earth would you not use a euphemism, like "voter outreach"? Even if you know it's more about discouraging people from voting rather than getting them to vote for you, you don't put it that way.

If it is genuine, we're really looking at the Keystone Kops of Kampaigning.

Six months ago - the Republican primary had not been decided and about twenty states had yet to vote. As late as July there was talk of taking the nomination away from Trump. He did not secure the nomination until the convention July 18th - only three months ago. Forty-six days later he gave his first speech at a black church.

(And as you may know, Taranto is a sometime-reader of this blog, too. All credit to Althouse.)

I never imagined how much fun this bet would be. What are the "latest polls" showing Trump with anything better than single-digits among black voters?

Brando said...

"Latest polls show Trump with 27 - 29% of the black vote."

Was this poll conducted among Omarossa, Don King, and three other black people? Because if you think Trump is going to get a greater percentage of the black vote than any Republican since 1960, I strongly suggest easing yourself into the eventual disappointment.

If he breaks 10%, that'd be big news.

You could be right, Matthew. I am interested in where the "BS" part resides.

Was it a reporter, manufacturing a source and/or a quote? That is a peculiarly ballsy thing; and I'd agree that in this instance, there seems to be no valid reason for giving the source any anonymity.

Or is it a true quote, coming from a genuine source in Camp Trump, who is largely unconnected to the Republican Party apart from the link with Trump? A non-Republican Trumpist, as it were.

Matt Sablan said...

Either are possible. Trump is not exactly known for having a crack campaign staff, but we've also seen the media fabricate stories and flat out get trolled/tricked by both campaigns.

The most likely "everyone is telling the truth" scenario I have is Trump's campaign hired the equivalent of an amoral political mercenary to make the ads, who then screwed up the messaging.

Brando said...

That I think is most likely. Judging from a lot of their other messaging issues, I don't think he has the most crackerjack staff on this.
