"I still can’t come up with one. Well, that I admire? That I’m going to have to defend a foreign leader?"
Gary Johnson resists the pick-a-hero bullshit. Good! I'm glad to see he's finally getting cheeky about it. Go, Gary!

What our listeners want.
He stole that from Althouse commenters.
How about your favorite dinosaur?
Smart move. As soon as you pick a foreign leader, the media go to work finding their one bad action and ascribe that to you. If he cuts one generally wasteful program that once helped a needy child, then you hate children. If he once signed a treaty with some third-world strongman then you are cozying up to dictators. If he once killed a hooker in a coke-fueled rage, you're now participating in the war on women.
Well I've got a list of foreign leaders that I despise. I still have a bit of animus against Le Gran Fromage, Charles De Gaulle. And I'm not too fond of Idi Amin, Yasser Arafat or Saddam Hussein and his devil spawn. So there's that.
I guess it'd be too snarky to name whoever's in charge of Liechtenstein.
He should've said, "Barrack Obama", his poll numbers would've gone through the roof.
I mean, what the hell, it's not like he's going to win anyway.
Always answer with: "Jesus, of course. He wore reasonably priced shoes."
My God, that CNN presenter was dense. Are people really so dumb that they think the government should tax you on your losses? Trump not paying taxes on his losses is not "a loophole" or "an incredible tax break."
Even worse than her ignorance was her smugness about having read the NY Times article when Gary Johnson hadn't. She assumed a lecturing tone with him despite the fact she had no clue what she was talking about.
It was a ridiculous question. American presidents are supposed to respect, not admire, foreign leaders.
As far as foreign leaders to admire, there is no right answer unless you're a Democrat. Hillary choosing Merkel was a no-brainer because it reinforces her campaign's theme of WYMYN POWER and the MSM is happy to let her push that theme. No matter which leader Trump or Johnson pick they will be accused by the MSM of something awful and disqualifying.
If he played the game: Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson

I must admit I can't come up with one, either. I admired and respected Margaret Thatcher and liked Tony Blair--he was very amusing at Prime Ministers Question Time. As a very young girl I had a crush on Fidel Castro [I hung a photo from Life magazine with Fidel--right after the coup--wearing striped PJs and smoking a cigar] and also Zhou-en-Lai. Most foreign leaders today seem like lightweights but, then, maybe it's the way they are presented by the MSM. Of course, I'm totally unfamiliar with most foreign leaders. The only 'news' we get is sadly limited in scope and depth.

A universal trait among leftists.
Good job Gary! It took you a week, but you finally came up with a clever answer.

Gary needs to lay off the good stuff. He is getting too much THC relaxation that he doesn't take this politica life seriously. My guess is that he was paid in advance.
Toomas Hendrik Ilves is the closest thing to a correct Libertarian answer.

This is why he should conduct all interviews by mail.
BDNYC,

And yet American conservatives could also achieve that by naming South Korea's Park Gyeun-hye or Taiwan's Tsai Ing-wen, the latter of whom would also give you pointsbecause of her historical achievement of being Taiwan's first President of aborignal descent.
But because they lead Asian coutnries, I'm guessing the vast majority of Americans- conservative or liberal- have no clue whom either of these admirable female national leaders are.
Meanwhile Merkel, Hillary's heroine, has made a complete mess of Europe and is getting trounce by her own people in election after election.
I can see how you would get a momentary brain fart picking an 'admirable' foreign leader. Of the major countries, you have Russia and China being openly aggressive. Germany and France are having troubles with immigrants/terrorism. Brazil just impeached their first female president for corruption. I would have gone with Benjamin Netanyahu, but that choice would be sure to inflame those holding anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian opinions.

Trump said the world leader he most admired was Merkel. He just said it last week. I guess he didn't get the memo? He's almost as absurd as Gary Johnson - who really is a dingbat.
I must admit I can't come up with one, either.
May I submit Bibi Netanyahu for your consideration?
More than having to defend that leader, there is also the problems with the foreign leaders who were not selected. This is a nonsense question and Johnson should just stand up and say it. I doubt he has met many, or even any, foreign leaders. Why should he select one now.

Unbelievable. I had to google it. You are right. Well, still he's not a felon who has abused the trust placed in her by our nation to peddle access to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Apparently he also said that he won't be able to start wars in places if he can't find them on a map.
Is he really this stupid? It's inexplicable and unforgivable that the libertarians nominated someone so unelectable.

I know, but we're grading everyone on a steep curve this year. How stupid is he compared with Trump and Clinton?
