It's a beautiful day on The Terrace...

... and here you are crouched over your machine. But maybe your head is full of even more amazing things than the bright blue sky and water. You can write them down here, in this open thread. You can write other things too — the non-amazing, the quotidian, the utterly dull.

When you think you are behind you need to attack. The Hillary camp must think they're REALLY behind. WI MI PA CO have no fresh polls from quality pollsters, only stale polls from before Hillary's Walking Dead Weekend.

Ann, am I right that in recent weeks a trove of documents from the John Doe investigation were leaked, and the nature of the leaked documents suggests the source had to be one or more of the prosecutors or their staff? Have you written about this document leak? Will there be an investigation, leading, one hopes, to disciplinary action against the leaker?

If CO MI PA and/or WI follow OH in their shift it means Trump might have the EC lead with a cushion or two. What scenario could have OH shifting without a corresponding shift in the other swings? Did OH go rogue?

Did Eric Dickerson just get a first down?

"here you are crouched over your machine'

Well, now I am. But earlier I had a workout at the gym and then cleaned (or tried to clean) my outdoor deck. It's just as lovely in Sturgeon Bay about 100 miles to the NE of you, though a bit cooler. The deck will take one more session. (It has been neglected for a while.)

No bombs have gone off in Sturgeon Bay recently, and if one did we would be very careful before we called it a bomb because here in Sturgeon Bay we don't jump to conclusions. We just kind of stumble into them, trip over them and if there is a loud noise and debris and al three Muslims in Sturgeon Bay are celebrating, even then we are cautious but soon some rash person looks up and says "hey, I don't want to offend anyone, but maybe that was a bomb."

Rain has impended for the past forty eight hours, the humidity rising to meet it: it rained finally earlier, after noon, and it remains humid and too warm. Pft. There is a breeze, however.

I worked Morocco (CN8KD) last night, to my surprise, owing to its rarity and my very low power on 40m, crouched over my desk. There was some Africa contest. I have one point.

Also a NJ contest (13 points) , a NH contest (

2 points) and a WA contest (6 points).

Contest contacts are nice because they're brief and exchange no chit-chat.

I have no idea what Firefox feature broke this comment up.

It sounds like Sturgeon has given in to Civility BS. Such a shame to wait until the Muslims are celebrating terror before accusing them of such. DJT, as a civility BS warrior, knows better.

Hopefully the lame stream media will continue to lose influence w/ DJT supporters, so they are not distracted by such lies, here AJ sets the record straight:

Also I biked home in a downpour. No shower today. I shall have to WD-40 the shifters, chain and brake joints.

I blame youths. Specifically male youths. Males like to take on obligations. They teach Muslim males what obligations to take on and they blow people up. Black youths learn their obligations from their peers, and are praised by the media for it so they know it's right.

But if you have to be crouched over your machine, isn't it nicer to be able to do so out on the terrace in the fresh air instead of, well, all the boring places?

@rob

I have thus far chosen not to write about that.

I'm no one's lawyer here and I'd want to be paid to deal with that subject in proper detail.

I'm not going to do something poltical and hackish so I am keeping silent.

If I see omething I want to link to, I'll link.

What a blah day for college football yesterday! I finally had some time to hunker down and watch, and the two night games (Ohio State and Stanford) were pretty much duds. Poor Oklahoma, so often loaded with raw talent but can't get a good coach to save their life. OSU looks very good. But Stanford vs USC not looking good playing at home, considering how bad the Tide beat USC. Stanford should have done better. That game looked more like an SEC game and the bama game was more like some West Coast game. Weird. Hey SEC, let's start playing some D. Indy D looking good. Redskins still suck.

Drove into Madison today to check out a couple of places we will be going to for a wedding next weekend. I noticed several yard signs for Russ Feingold and one for Obama-Biden, but didn't see any for Hillary or Trump. Didn't expect to see Trump signs in Madison, but I was surprised that I didn't see any for Ms. Clinton. Is the enthusiasm just not there on the left this year?

HT said...

There is no enthusiasm for "Mrs Clinton" outside of women between 55 and 68. Welcome to Sept 2016.

The coolest thing about the way Althouse blogs is that the less she knows about something and the further it is from her wheelhouse, the better it is as a subject. As she herself says, look elsewhere if you want posts about something in a particular area where she's qualified to go through the process of arriving at a knowledge based conclusion.

OTOH, if you want to know that HRC's face and voice are holding her back, you've hit the jackpot.

The best sign I've seen this campaign season is a bumper sticker: 2016 Giant Meteor, just end it already. http://www.zazzle.com/giant_meteor_2016_bumper_sticker-128763236452427756

HT,

I also linked to that in one of these threads.

Osama bin Laden had a thing about the U.S. going back to the original mujahedin wars in Afghanistan and he was said to have inherited half a billion dollars from his dad, $400,000 of which he invested in the World Trade Center caper, which succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. However, the American government also succeeded in separating him from his money and making him the world's most wanted man, and he wound up isolated in that dingy Pakistani compound as guest of the ISI, watching porn on his 13" Sharps TV and giving orders to imaginary followers.

The al Qaeda name was franchised to al Zarqawi and others, but these people have so far been too busy fighting among themselves to bother much with "The Great Satan" other than to encourage freelance efforts at "terror" by amateurs.

At some point this will change, and we will get the full attention of another bin Laden or a state entity with serious resources.

No doubt this was not meant to be ironic.

It's cool how it's easier to be loose and sloppy about subjects that we're not professionally engaged in. But, when things get close to home there are a lot more considerations that need to go into going on the record.

Anywho, if it was hard to poke holes in Althouse's posts I'd move on. So I'm glad to see her focus on things like misunderstanding logic and timelines when referring to the HRC-on-a-plane statement.

Drove 45 minutes (each way) to attend Mass at the Cathedral. The organ is world-class and the organist picks dark, complex music. I swore I had the name of the composer (listed in a print-out of the Mass order) correct, yet when I got home and googled I hit nothing. Now I'm kicking myself for not walking out with the paper. A perfect moment that only lives in memory...

No, it's simpler than that. As the Joker said, if you're good at something, never do it for free.

We don't have ISIS's attention? I feel they are pretty much tops in the pathology department.

Hagar said...

Actually, no. ISIS is very busy with its wars in northern Iraq and Syria.

Saw Hell or High Water this afternoon. Highly recommend it. There's a bit of Bernie froth in it but it's actually an old-school movie. Hooray for Hollywood.

Marc in Eugene said...

Kate, Widor's organ symphonies are mostly what people think of these days, and I see at Wiki that it had become the custom at some point to conclude Midnight Mass of Christmas at the Vatican Basilica with the Toccata from his 5th-- whether that still happens, I don't know. At my parish, I count it a lucky Sunday when the organist gets through... well, well, enough of that: no Widor, or Vierne, or Messiaen here, alas.

Hagar said...

Speaking of ISIS, whatever that is, this has been going on for a long time now and over a vast area. (Look at GoogleEarth and compare with a similar swath of the USA.) They have expended an awful lot of materiel and munitions. Where and how did they get all that and how was it paid for?

I just finished the Ron Chernow biography of John D Rockefeller. There won't be a rap musical about Rockefeller anytime soon. He led a remarkably dull life. He was married to one woman all his life and, even worse, was completely faithful to her. He ate crackers and milk for lunch. His only extravagance was golf. He played a lot of golf. So did Taft, Eisenhowr, and Obama. What made his golf playing extravagant was that he built a golf course on his estate. He had his own private golf course. Eat your heart out Trump. There are perks to being the richest man in th history of the world even though you come in for a lot criticism.

I was outside for a long time yesterday. What a stunner of a day.

The beauty of changeable weather in the midwest is that sometimes, an A-number-1 day comes along and you really really appreciate it. The view from the terrace, with all the sailboats on the water, ice cream eaters (what a line!): paradise.

I love the Terrace and spent my 27th summer there writing a book of short stories that nobody read. But I drank a lot of beer, enjoyed the weather and the surroundings, and slowly went a little nut thinking about the meaning of life.
