"Mrs. Clinton’s six-percentage-point lead over the presumptive Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump, in a CBS News poll last month has evaporated."

"The two candidates are now tied in a general election matchup, the new poll indicates, with each receiving the support of 40 percent of voters," the NYT reports.

The reliably left-of-center Slashdot is jumping all over this. Sample comments on the story:
"I'm not a Trump fan but I get the impression that many who like him believe he isn't bought and paid for like Hillary probably is. If they are right, it makes sense that these guys wouldn't want to lose their investment and have someone elected that isn't beholden to them."

"The tech executives just want to keep the gravy train of cheap, captive H-1B visa holders. I have been a Democrat all my life, donated many times to President Obama--and would vote for him again in a heartbeat. Hillary Clinton is the first Democratic presidential candidate in my life that I cannot support. I am senior enough in my field to have never had my personal job touched by an H-1B visa holder. (They are dishonest [linkedin.com] morons.) The way it's run, the entire H-1B visa program is a scam [linkedin.com]. So, I will be voting for Dr. Jill Stein. I will be damned if I will vote for Clinton. I've done that enough. She supports rich tech billionaires--not me--and I will return the favor. I would rather suffer through 4 years of Donald Trump instead of allowing Hillary Clinton to screw us."

Is there something here that doesn't apply to Hillary as well? Except that both of them are at 40%, not 30%, or are you one of those special snowflakes who gets their own facts?

The problem for both parties is even though they're facing a profoundly weak opponent, they're facing that opponent with a profoundly weak candidate of their own. Hillary's got so many skeletons she needs a walk-in closet. Worse, she is a terrible politician. Always has been. She's good at the Machiavellian part, but she's just a terribly unlikeable person, and that comes through when she appears in public. If she was facing anybody but Trump she'd have no chance at at all. You could say the same for Trump, too - were he facing someone like Obama or Bill Clinton he'd be crushed.

I remember the same sort of carping the last time around - everybody was going to vote for Ron Paul because Goldman Sachs was Obama's #3 donor and there was no way he would do anything but raise the H-1B caps.

By the time the election rolled around, though, they were back on the Obama train. Just like they'll be supporting Hillary in November. Nobody's going to vote for Jill Stein or Gary Johnson when push comes to shove, and this is California where it probably doesn't matter that much given the dominance of the Democratic machine here.

Your comment raised the question of if the comments in SlashDot were "concern trolls". No, I think not. Their anger is quite genuine. Do your IT compatriots like H1-Bs in principle? Maybe some of them will come around to HRC this time. Maybe not. She strikes me as the sort of woman that drives IT-type personalities up a wall, & not "a story of hope & change" like Obama. YMMV.

But, remember no Republican candidate ever called out H1-Bs by name, & no Dem has either. Trump has called them out by name. Disney's (the very epitome of a company attached at the hip to the Democratic Party) mass dismissal of its American IT staff in favor of outsourcing to India struck a nerve among IT workers everywhere. I think Trump may do surprisingly well among that sort of IT worker, even if they'd never admit it in public. Once in the voting booth, that may be a different story.

It is really weird when you read about a terrorist attack in a city & you know the layout of the place by heart. My great-aunt lived in Nice, & she was like a second mother to my mother, so we spent more time in Nice than any other place in France.

I know very well the Hotel Meridien, at the intersection of the Promenade Des Anglais & Ave. de Verdun. Right across the Promenade from the hotel is where one boards the little sightseeing train that takes one through the old city & to the old port.

It's weird to think of the place littered with the injured & dead like a war zone.

Got is going to help Trump because Hillary and Obama have their fingerprints all over the turmoil in the Middle East, where a lot of the Muslims flooding into Europe came from. We didn't need to help try to effect regime change in Syria, as we had in Lybia and Egypt. But they did. But only half assed. Drew some lines in the sand that were ignored. And most of the weapons we contributed ended up in the hands of ISIS. It continues, and we are now trying to do a deal with the Russians so we can do joint operations - which means ignoring what they have been doing in NATO ally Ukrane. By backing the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, she showed that she approves of using terrorism and violence to win hearts, minds, and territory. Etc.

It also lets Trump be the strong one on Terrorism here and abroad. Most Americans have figured out that the attacks in Florida and in Sampn Bernadino, Fort Hood, etc, were terrorist attacks. The Administration has been lying through their teeth to the American people trying to pretend that isn't true. How Disbanding the Iraqi Army Fueled ISIS

After nearly a year of air strikes led by the U.S. and ground attacks by the U.S.-trained Iraqi army, the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) is proving to be a far more cagey and cunning foe than the Pentagon ever expected. A big reason for its success is the George W. Bush Administration’s decision to disband the Iraqi army shortly after the 2003 invasion—without the knowledge or consent of either the Pentagon or President.

It’s a jarring reminder of how a key decision made long ago is complicating U.S. efforts to fight ISIS and restore some semblance of stability to Iraq. Instead of giving Iraq a fresh start with a new army, it helped create a vacuum that ISIS has filled. Anthony Zinni, a retired Marine general and chief of U.S. Central Command from 1997 to 2000, said keeping the Iraqi army intact was always part of U.S. strategy. “The plan was that the army would be the foundation of rebuilding the Iraqi military,” he says. “Many of the Sunnis who were chased out ended up on the other side and are probably ISIS fighters and leaders now.” One expert estimates that more than 25 of ISIS’s top 40 leaders once served in the Iraqi military.

Obama and Hillary have created the "shit show" (Obama's description) in Libya and further destabilized Syria by arming a faction in the civil war there. They abandoned Iraq, leaving a military vacuum there, so they could suck up to their lefty voters back home.

Obama got the presidency stuck in the sand trap, he thought he could just take a mulligan, like he does in golf, most likely, instead of playing the ball where it lay. So he pulls the troops, that was a compounding blunder of the first magnitude.

So yeah, it's fair to blame a lot of what is going on on them.

And if it is second generation immigrants that are committing this kind of violence, what does that say about the advisability of bringing in a cohort of immigrants who don't believe in democracy, don't believe in women's rights, but at least they don't stone them on sight, the way they do gays. U.S. Secretly Gave Aid to Iraq Early in Its War Against Iran

The American decision to lend crucial help to Baghdad so early in the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war came after American intelligence agencies warned that Iraq was on the verge of being overrun by Iran, whose army was bolstered the year before by covert shipments of American-made weapons.

The New York Times and others reported last year that the Reagan Administration secretly decided shortly after taking office in January 1981 to allow Israel to ship several billion dollars' worth of American arms and spare parts to Iran. That intervention and the decision to aid Iraq directly in 1982 provide evidence that Washington played a much greater role than was previously known in affecting the course of the long and costly Iran-Iraq war. U.S. Asserted Neutrality

So let's recap, shall we:

During the 8 year Iran/Iraq War the U.S. was supplying both sides w/American made weapons. How quaint.

And who was president at this time ~ Dutch!

Interesting Cheney/Bush were out of the loop during much of the Iraq War much like Bush41 was out of the loop during the Iran-Contra scandal. Like father, like son.

The US never sold weapons to Iraq. Much is made of construction equipment and the like, but there were no weapons. The Iraqi purchases came from a large number of countries, none of which was cooperating with the US on much at the time. The Soviets, China, Brazil, France covers nearly all of it.

The Israel-Iran business is true, and others also traded with Iran "under the table" for US spare parts and certain weapons to keep Iranian air defenses viable.
If you want a nitty gritty account about exactly what was sold and what use was made of it, try this - Iran-Iraq War in the Air 1980-1988 Cooper&Bishop

The Reagan Administration secretly decided to provide highly classified intelligence to Iraq in the spring of 1982 -- more than two years earlier than previously disclosed -- while also permitting the sale of American-made arms to Baghdad in a successful effort to help President Saddam Hussein avert imminent defeat in the war with Iran, former intelligence and State Department officials say.

The Iraq war happened because Hussein invaded a sovereign nation. It was suspend with an armistice agreement that was violated through progressive steps to deny responsibility. The Iraq war could have been concluded under Clinton, but he preferred to poke and provoke terrorists throughout Eurasia... and subordinate women in his office. The culmination of Clinton's administration was an economic morass, and a progressive terrorist force that planned and executed the 9/11 attack inside America. Bush II forced a focal point for terrorist activity in Iraq and "killed two birds with one stone", successfully. Bush's success, of our military, and of our diplomats, was as honest brokers between population and ruling factions that were historically managed by dictators. Obama caused the catastrophic anthropogenic warring -- that progressed to catastrophic anthropogenic global warring (CAGW) -- through premature evacuation of the honest brokers from Iraq. He followed through with his social justice-inspired humanitarian disaster to remove politically unfavorable regimes that progressed to become a global humanitarian disaster. Ironically, Gaddafi had reformed and repented under Reagan, but was brought to "justice" under Obama and Clinton through torture, sodomy, and abortion (the unholy trinity of Pro-Choice).

And, if you want to dig further, much of the various theories about the US supporting Saddam and etc. came in as a "dezinformatsiya" from the Soviets, who actually were the main, the principal, arms supplier to Iraq. Just look at the Iraqi arsenal from pistols to combat aircraft, nearly everything was Soviet, with just odds and ends from anyone else.

We are still dealing with decades of "dezinformatsiya", this is just one, today minor, leftover of an organized campaign of lies. One prominent one that actually has had long term consequences is the Soviet meme that the US bombed Egyptian airbases in 1967, thereby explaining why the Israelis won so handily - the Egyptians (Nasser) got behind that because obviously one couldn't have the despised Israelis winning on their own, that was too much humiliation to bear. This is still current in modern anti-American propaganda.

So, Pro-Choice is the Democrat platform. Reproductive prostitution (e.g. Heather has one father, a male transgender/homosexual guardian, and rent-a-mother) to normalize male and female transgender/homosexuals, and compensate for the progressive dysfunction of the female chauvinist revolution. Creating unsafe spaces for grandma, mom, daughter, and sister through integration of transgender/crossovers and male rapists and sodomists. And, of course, the "final solution" (i.e. abortion rites), and channeling Mengele through Planned Parenthood, #CecileTheCannibal et al. I wonder what they plan for an encore. We live in interesting times.

Blogger buwaya said...

" I wonder what they plan for an encore. We live in interesting times."

There is no encore. The end state is no children, a lonely and bitter old age for all, and extermination.

On a progressive course a Dodo Dynasty does seem inevitable. Still, despite the establishment of the Pro-Choice Church, there is evidence that Posterity is repulsed by its gods, judges, and religious/moral philosophy. It can be reformed through a proper reconciliation of moral and natural imperatives. The classical liberal philosophy tempered by a suitable religion -- say, Christianity -- would qualify.
