I can't argue with this!
Succinct and to the point, but I think your argument needs more flushing out.
This is the best.
People sleeping on the streets. I'm not getting the appeal of the big city.
"There's so much to do!" without asking "How much is actually WORTH doing?"
My prostate's bad, but not so bad that I have to sleep right next to the toilet.

Yes good photographs but it reminds me again that it was the right decision to pack up and leave downtown Chicago after 30 years for life in the Tennessee countryside:
"I've had years of cramped-up city life
Trapped like a duck in a pen
All I know is it's a pity life
Can't be simple again
"Rocky Top, you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top, Tennessee
Rocky Top, Tennessee"
I see people are investing in tattoos. I wonder what the return-on-investment is?
I think I see a lot of tourists because no self-respecting New Yorker is going to stand on the street corner trying to orient a map on his/her telephone.
I'm pleased by the lack of flip-flops. Perhaps there's some hope after all.
As I have often noted in NY - there are more beautiful women to be seen on the streets there than San Francisco, in any given place on any given day.
fucking fabulous.
thanks for sharing!
the women are fucking fierce and gorgeous.
I'm the Hangout Artist.
I've spent decades working at my craft on street corners, saloons, parks, beaches, prison yards; you name it I've hung off on with and around it. My technique on the transfer mailbox has been noted by many a respected passerby, and more importantly commented on by Plebes of every race creed and color. Not to name drop but in order to highlight my bona fides, I've hung with the Hunger Artist himself until, alas, he passed on. Inevitable, but still a great loss to the Artist community.
So, it's with significant confidence that I unequivocally state that to a man and woman Union Square is overflowing with amateurs, poseurs, poetasters, and pathetic wannabes. Not a genuine New Yorker among them. And that goes double for the meanderers in Soho.
Pathetic.
My wife spent a week in New York City and ever since reminds me of that, whenever a street scene from the Times Square area comes on TV. The place really makes an impact on us country mice.
Too many of the images lack proper focus or focus on the wrong part of the scene. Looks like the style conscious New Yorkers are liking the ill fitting tee shirt look.
After reading the comments I had to go back and look at the photo, 1st time I didn't see the bum sleeping in the street.
I always thought that "fierce" meant the same thing as "gorgeous" in fey-speak so maybe now I've finally gotten my wish and "fierce" has reverted back to its proper meaning, although I'm hard-pressed to see how those women appear to be in any way particularly nasty.
I lived in Atlantic City for a while (home of the world's fattest people --- the street nearly buckled when they lumbered off a bus at my casino) and visited NYC and Philly.
Didn't like either place. The women are meh --- Southern girls are infinitely hotter --- and everything is just a random mess of chaos. Pass. Philly was, to be gentle, a miserable shithole. NYC was just...there. "All of the hoopla for THIS?"
"After reading the comments I had to go back and look at the photo, 1st time I didn't see the bum sleeping in the street."
Thanks for proving my seen and unseen point.

That just means the photographer has his point of view.
Unlike n real life, where you can look around and fixate on what draws your eye, the photographer controls you.
But I wouldn't assume that what's most central is what the photographer wanted to show you. I think the unseenness of the lying-down man is the point.
Obviously, I also thought the cut off sign in the first pic mattered.
I like putting things in the corners if pictures. I used to drive me nuts, back in the days of film cameras, that the photo processors cropped everything.
fierce means diva. You don't necessarily need to be gorgeous to be a diva-see Bette Midler and Judy Garland. Gee get with it.
Many drag queens are fierce but not particularly attractive.
I can see where street photographers would have more luck in NYC. Here locally no one lounges. They go quickly from point to point, so as not to catch on fire by standing in one place in the boiling sun.
Too many of the images lack proper focus or focus on the wrong part of the scene.
Like what for example? I've only recently started using a DSLR camera, so I'm interested in constructive criticism.
For instance, you should have focused on that guys butt crack and made it the center of interest...
I kid, I kid.
The juxtaposition of that pretty female butt and the bum's butt is something Aristotle might have approved. "Thesis and antithesis."
I like a good NYC street scene--there are some great shots in that city, particularly the older neighborhoods with little hole in the wall restaurants tucked in.
And I agree about NYC women--they have a bigger pool to draw from, but there are a lot of stunners in just an average walk down a busy street.
Who's the woman going all National Geographic on the left?
Street photography -
Try this simple trick - always has worked great for me - get a Rolleiflex. Much less obtrusive and you will look a lot more, well, legitimate in your activities. You wont be poking lenses at people.
@edh
I did see that until I read your comment, proving my own seen and unseen point.
great photos but was he looking for the badly dressed?
Lovely, queers, hookers, and tourists.
Glad I'm not there.
Send your boy to SAN FRANCISCO, many, many, many more queers, queer hookers, and even queer tourists. Truely FABULOUS, as Titus might say.
J Ericson - not true re SF. Or not actually apparent on the street. As far as human color goes this place doesnt compare.
