"Protesters Throw Rocks at Police Horses Outside Trump Rally in Albuquerque."

That NYT headline should make it clear that the protesters were anti-Trump protesters. In fact, there's close to nothing in the text of the whole article that specifies who the protesters were. Midway through, you get this:
The raucous scene outside the convention center was matched by Mr. Trump’s fiery tone inside the rally, which protesters disrupted less than three minutes after he started speaking.
And then the rest of the article displays Trump's fieriness. So the only evidence that these awful protesters — throwing rocks at horses! — were anti-Trump, rather than fired-up supporters, was the news that they "disrupted" Trump.

About a decade ago, James Taranto on his WSJ Best of the Web page had a feature called "Guess the political party" where he then linked to headlines and article ledes where some politician was doing something nefarious. GOP politicians were identified as such immediately whereas party affiliation of Democrats was held to the 10th paragraph or not at all. It was pretty frequent at first and trailed off as journalists were shamed out of the practice until now.

Are there any reports of Pro-Trump voters showing up at a Cruz rally or Bernie rally or Hillary rally and throwing rocks and/or disrupting the candidate from speaking?

I've heard of none.

If they did, I'm sure the media would blame Trump (and perhaps rightfully so).But it doesn't happen.

And when anti-Trump voters show up to disrupt Trump from speaking and/or to cause general disturbance, who gets blamed? Yes, Trump.

Another reason not to read the NewYork Times.

MSNBC and CNN are in a tough bind. They have to show the protest images, it fill up the screen and the time. All the while never mentioning the Mexican flags, or the almost about to get violent nature of the protestors; talking around what you see is taking place with your own eyes.

I would imagine the images play to Trump's favor. The protestors are attempting to intimidate people into not voting for Trump. Almost as if, "this could happen in your town too".

...which will make people on fence think, damn, we really do need that wall.

Yes. Basically another version of SHUT UP. If you don't toe the liberal line....shut up. If you say things that they don't want to hear, they will drown you out with Trigglypuff tantrums.

Except now, it is worse. It is SHUT UP or else. Shut up or we will hurt you and maybe even kill you. The push back from this is going to be bad. Eventually, those being told to shut up will decide that they have no other recourse than to respond "in kind".

Too bad about the Times. It used to be a great newspaper. Now you have to use your Pravda reading skills to figure out what is going on.

In the days of the USSR, you couldn't take Pravda literally, but if you knew the rules you could figure out what was going on. For example, Pravda would never report casualties from air crashes but if the story did not include many accounts of the heroism of the rescue workers, you could safely assume everyone on board was killed.

Same with the Times now, the careful reader can figure out from hints that it was ANTI Trump protesters throwing rocks. But really, why bother? It's easier to read Drudge instead.

One characteristic of Socialism is the suppression of free speech.

This characteristic is blatantly obvious in Communist societies. As the Communist elite strives to micro-manage the entire society and economy, that elite cannot tolerate criticism. A requirement to deal with citizens' criticism would distract and disrupt that elite.

The same compulsion to suppress free speech motivates Socialists, although not so blatantly. Socialists want to centralize within an elite all the major decisions about the society and economy. That elite is distracted and disrupted by citizens' criticism.

Socialists here now in the USA are trying to prevent Donald Trump from speaking to audiences and are trying to prevent audiences from listening to Trump.

If this prevention of free assembly and speech requires rocks to be thrown at police horses, then so be it.

The housing Bubble was ordered by Bush to cover up Clinton's crashing Dot Com Bubble and keep the economy sucking up the savings from profits of the foreign industrial boom caused by Capitalism sending its manufacturing overseas.

That worked because Wall Street sold foreigners bonds based on junk Mortgages as if they were federally Insured. It turned out they were in the end Federally insured by AIG bailout. But the crash was from that the Government ordered Ponzi scheme when it inevitably ran out of buyers who could make the payments because their Jobs, other than Housing Boom caused jobs, were quickly sent overseas.

Trump did brag that he was part of a group with the cash to risk and could save the market price collapse by going in and buying houses at 30% of old FMV when no one else would touch them for 10% which had become the new FMV.

The Banking Industry that was used to do this was effectively wiped out except for the selected Mega Banks allowed to live and take over the rest of the failed banks, provided that they were no longer doing banking. From then on they could only re-loan the Government's Money to select political cronies. And Hillary is a Clinton Bag woman who hits these Banks up big time for that privilege.

The Government started the bubble under Clinton, and while Bush continued it on what appeared to be a wonderful increase in home ownership and the economic benefits that followed, it was Bush who eventually foresaw the downside as it went viral. There is plenty of video of the Bush Administration trying to convince Congress to reel in the out of control lending being pushed by regulations as well as greed. The Democrats and specifically Barney Frank famously led their dismissing of the whole issue right up to the crash and even into it.

I can see why IO loans would explode on them when it came time to add principal, but why were adjustable rate mortgages such a bad deal? As I recall interest rates didn't go up significantly, and then dropped quite a bit since that time. The real reason for the housing collapse was people couldn't make even the initial payments for very long, what with their expectations of reselling the house for a profit after a year.

"I can see why IO loans would explode on them when it came time to add principal, but why were adjustable rate mortgages such a bad deal?"

The ticket in states that allow negative-amortization loans was the "option-ARM." The "option" part meant you could pay the minimum interest or the actual interest or something in-between. Of course, if you paid less than the actual interest you'd get negative amortization, but on some of these loans you could pay as little as one percent interest and not be in default.

Of course, eventually the loan would "reset"- usually when loan-to-value hit 120% or so. When that happened (and assuming the appraised value had increased) you re-financed into a new option-ARM.

You could live in a $500,000. residence for less than $420./month (plus taxes and insurance). Sure, you'd get foreclosed when prices stopped going up but it was a sweet deal while it lasted. And when it ended, it was the lender (or more often the sucker who'd bought a bundle of bad loans in a CDO, or those "government-sponsored entities" Fannie and Freddie) who took the loss.

And then the ever-clueless press had a big pity-party about how awful it was that these "homeowners" had to leave "their" homes ...

If s/he ever had any to begin with, the commenter self-identifying as "Chuck" has lost all credibility. S/he may be a moby.

Peter said...

BTW, the irony of adjustable-rate loans was that you could qualify for a larger loan if you chose and ARM instead of fixed-rate, because the calculation was based on the initial interest rate.

Which doesn't make much sense, as adjustable-rate loans are inherently riskier than fixed-rate ones due to the risk that payments may rise substantially. Presumably a mortgage market where lenders had to correctly assess risk to survive would understand that, but one in which loans could easily be sold to suckers had little need to do so.

My father worked for a bank reviewing loan data. What he told me at the time was that the mortgages are a problem because the initial teaser rate didn't even pay interest, much less principal. So, they were paying less than the interest rates before they adjusted up to the interest level. He knew new hires at his bank that he knew couldn't be making more than $40,000 buying $250,000 homes. He fought his bosses because he already went thru a crisis where a bank he worked out went under with tax changes in the 1980's.

And a lot of people who got those ARMs couldn't pay those teaser rates. They had delinquencies there YEARS before the crisis hit. It's like every single bubble bursting --- all the signs were there and almost nobody wanted to see it.

It can work. The MSM may be declining in impact, but it’s not dead, by a long shot. There is money behind these riots; some say it’s Soros money. I don’t know, but Soros did collaborate with the Nazis who used the big lie, and mob intimidation tactics to drive their opponents from the field. It may that in his 80s the old Nazi is resurrecting an old playbook. This time it’s not in the beer-halls of Germany but in places like Albuquerque.

Have I mentioned before that I do not and can not trust the major media to tell the truth? I have to read and view them as the Russian people had to read Tass, Pravda, and Izvestia.

I don't think that it really matters if the protests embolden Trump supporters, and probably better if they don't. America doesn't like cheating, and this is seen by many as just that, cheating. Making it worse are all those Mexican flags. Aren't going to be a lot of voters turned on by seeing those flags, and probably a lot who are turned of by them, wondering what Obama has gotten us into with all these presumably illegals, and their supporters trying to disrupt our democratic process. They should be thankful they are here, not spiteful. A lot of them are going too rethink this non-enforcement and effective amnesty thing, and side with Trump.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Trump really doesn't need to go to rally after rally like a typical candidate does. He gets on the nightly news every night just fine. The MSM seems incapable of just ignoring him. He was on tonight calling Hillary a lier, after rhe State Dept AG released his report on Hillary's email. And her people will take a day or two to formulate their coordinated response, when it is now old news. Which will give Trump another shot at hitting her. They can't ignore him - he is too much fun, and gets ratings.

I think though that we can expect that he will call out the groups protesting him, and who is paying them. As noted above, that sort of thing becomes known fairly quickly, and he has shown that he has an ear to the Internet, as well as doing his homework. And realizing the the violence of the protests is both planned, and often funded, is going to sway voters in his direction.

The problem with the media is that it loves to report things that it thinks will discredit Trump, yet it is unable to distinguish between what discredits Trump in their eyes (and the eyes of people they know) and what discredits Trump in the eyes of the people actually supporting him.

The media aren't good at this with Trump so far, in effect distributing his campaign message nationwide for free during the Republican primary such that to date, Trump has had very little need of any outside money for his campaign. I'm not sure if that will continue, but imagine if Clinton needs to spend tons of time fundraising to raise money to pay to get her message out while Trump gets to spend all his time on the stump blasting away at "crooked Hillary" wining and dining the rich and powerful at $10,000 a plate dinners while the media basically continues to give him free air time by constantly talking about the outrageous things he says.

If things keep going on the way they're going, the media will end up helping to elect Trump in the process of trying to destroy him, and will end up wondering how on earth it happened.

Bruce that's spot on. Trumpy is going to bring that up. While people may well be intimidated into going to Trumpy's rallies, the intimidation factor will drive them to the polls. Now Trumpy has to get them to vote a straight R ticket. If he can pull that off, he will own the Republican Party. The irony is Trumpy may very well be a bigger success in politics than he ever was in business although what he will do with that success if it happens remains to be seen.

damikesc I live in South Florida and I sensed this housing bubble was going to burst several years before it did. All the signs were there for those who wanted to see. When a nothing 1200 square foot home in Coral Gables Fl built in the 1920's was renting for $2,500 a month but for sale at $500,000 with taxes at 2.8% never mind homeowners and windstorm insurance it was obvious to anyone with two working brain cells the market was stupid crazy. Naturally with government permission liar loans and no or minimal down payments every schmuck though himself a home developer/flipper. And yes, once again the skids have been greased for round two of the housing bubble bust along with the stock market bubble. God help us if both bubbles burst simultaneously.

Imagine what Mexican riot police would do to an American-flag-waving rent-a-mob that was targeting their horses with rocks.

I saw a TV news graphic years back that identified Rod Blagojevich as a Republican.

Same with Dan Rostenkowski.

Same with George Wallace and Chris Hayes.

@ Money Runner

That may be their goal. They are not going to get what they want though.

"the almost about to get violent nature"

-- No almost about it. They lit things on fire, threw things at police and assaulted a man in a wheelchair while the police did nothing.

I'm not a fan of Trump, but I'm less a fan of lawless intimidation techniques. It doesn't mean I'll vote for Trump, but it means that I tune out a lot of the Trump is literally Hitler nonsense.
