Scott Walker named one of the world's 100 most influential people (according to Time).

And the write-up is by Chris Christie (who's not).
[Scott Walker's] battle to bring fairness to the taxpayers through commonsense reform of the public-sector collective-bargaining laws brought him scorn from the special interests and a recall election. Despite these threats, he stood tall. His reforms have brought tax reductions to his citizens and economic growth to his state. They have allowed public workers the freedom to choose whether to belong to a union. They have made Wisconsin a better place to live and work.
Doesn't that read like it was written for a children's newspaper?

ADDED: I don't know if Christie wrote that or just agreed to put his name on it, because from what I've seen so far on this Time list, it's all written in that flat, simple tone that assumes the reader has a mental age of about 10. For example: "Holder uses his power to defend Americans’ freedoms and thus our values of democracy and justice."

AND: "How much suffering can human beings tolerate? Unless he starts taking care of his people, the young generalissimo may be the first Kim to find out." And here's "Madeleine Albright" on Putin: "History is filled with aggressors who triumphed for a moment. Then failed." And: "Gray Davis" on Jerry Brown: "No longer the new kid, he’s now the adult in the room — the wise steward of our state’s resources." And: "If Kirsten Gillibrand wants to be a rock star, she’ll be a rock star. But she’d make a great President."

Actually, it sound like how Christie talks. Christie has the disadvantage of living with the NJ legislature, which is not going to let him do any of the things Walker did to become influential. In fact, after two terms "Christie's" record is going to look like crap; to a large extent, that will be caused by the NJ legislature. There's nothing he can do about it.

At the Time webshite or website as it may be, which shows photos of all 100 people, Miley Cyrus's photo is next to that of Vladimir Putin.

Of course!

Sorry, it won't make me click through or buy your sorry magazine, Time.

The prevailing "wisdom" is that you communicate best at an 11th-grade level, roughly that of the Reader's Digest.

There is software out there that will evaluate your text. Maybe you should run your blog and the comments through such an evaluator for fun.

TIME Announces New Version Of Magazine Aimed At Adults

So, Time magazine has become the Weekly Reader? Well, they must know their audience.

Time is no longer the magazine of record thanks to the internet.

I didn't read it.

What's it say about Wendy Davis and Bruce Braley?

Time serves a porpoise. It gives some people more information than they already had. Just because I might think it's poorly researched and poorly written doesn't mean someone out there might not get something useful out of it.

This criticism reminds me of the way media critics tend to go after Jon Stewart, implying that he has a duty to inform viewers better because lots of them apparently get their news from him. He keeps saying roughly, "I'm a comedian on a comedy network! I do parody!"

Time is kinda like that. It's not a news magazine; it's more like a fast-food salad buffet of real news. (Well, I'm not a great writer, either.) I like to think that they know their feature stories, and especially their "100 most influential" and "Person of the year" things are just fluff. People enjoy them. Magazines sell.

Time has amazing photography, but their journalism, ugh. It's like a dumb, juvenile version of the NYT. Brought to you by the people who publish People. And it would not shock me at all if they shared the same editorial staff.

One example should suffice. Here is Althouse on the forced abortions in China. A pregnant woman is kidnapped off the street and sexually assaulted, her baby murdered.

Think about this violence. Keep this reality in your mind, and then read what Time Magazine has to say.

Yet Walker will probably not even win re-election this November. His lead in the polls is vanishing fast as Wisconsin voters see the inherent corruption some to light.

Two Republican governors both currently being investigated. How sweet.

Stately, plump Chris Christie

To be fair, Time was critical of the forced abortion of Feng Jianmei. But that earlier article still rankles. And the failure of Time to run any photographs of the victim speaks volumes. A happy child walking with his parents, that's how you illustrate a baby's murder by the state?

And Time runs photographs of atrocities all the time. But not abortion, they cannot show an abortion, ever.

Gray Davis was an idiot when he was governor; and being driven out of office hasn't made him any smarter.

Davis was realistic enough to know that the best thing about him was his mane of silver gray hair. While it may be all hat and no cattle in Texas, for Davis it was all hair and no brains.

Jerry Brown the "adult in the room"? Aarggh!

Finger down throat. Yet the people who actually buy this anachronism must be in that simple-minded demographic. Our free market at work.

It has to be readable by the average citizen.

I believe that the Government insists that all its publications for the general public must have a Flesch-Kincaid Readability Grade Level no higher than 9 (i.e., ninth-grade level).

Many insurance companies have the same requirement: Documents for the general public must not require more than a ninth-grade education to understand them.

I'm surprised they gave the job of writing Kim's article to someone who doesn't like him instead of, say, the People's Commissar for Social Joy Enforcement. I say this because most of the other articles read like they were written about Kim by the People's Commissar for Social Joy Enforcement.

Nice to hear from a representative of Time's target audience. We will all do a slow clap for you.

Your source only lists one Republican Governor under investigation (Chris Christie). You ought to let them know they do not know what you know.

Awesome - PPP (D) shows Walker +3. That's what they showed for the recall, final was Walker +6.8.

RCP Average Walker +6.5 is not what I call a shoe-in. A lot can change in 6 months.

Great to see Madeleine Albright's name back in the news. We'll be hearing more of her in the coming months as she was the only Secretary of State to actually do less than Hillary. Although to be fair, she did perfect the art of denying requested additional security to US ambassadors serving in overseas hellholes long before Bengazie.

I didn't know Walker ever stepped foot on the Capitol grounds. You never see Walker in the public anywhere aside from a carefully managed appearance at some business. No town halls, no throwing out pitches. Weird. Scurries around like a rat.

Time used to be worth reading. I'm older than most of you so I remember. Every doctor learned to read the Medicine section as soon as the magazine came out each eek so we knew what our patients were talking about. It was the Google of the 1960s.

No more.

Yes, they had a lot of good writers at TIME in the old days. Now the thing is dying before our eyes. It's like the punishment they used to give robbers - starving to death in an iron cage high up in the public square. TIME slowly runs down, entropizing before our eyes.
