"The comments by 'titus' on this post are offensive but important."

Says a commenter on a Facebook post that links to that post of mine about the gendered complexities of makeup.

I'm just guessing that longtime readers of the comments section on my blog would be amused to see someone noticing Titus for the first time and pronouncing him offensive but important.

I was going to invite readers to attempt to say something offensive but important, but immediately realized that was not a good idea. You need offensive + important + ??? + !!! to = Titus. And until you figure out the ??? and the !!!, the offensive + important formula is incomplete.

Never once have I said, "My...that scatological reference is important." He's like the guys that go nuts at the gay pride parade to the embarrassment of all.

He's about 13th on the list Althousian characters. Sir Archy being number one and Freder coming in last at 14.

Titus really detracts from your blog.

I suppose that offense like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Tits.

Titus is funny. Humor goes a long way.

I can't help it, I like Titus. As far as offending people, that's what the first amendment is all about. It's easy to allow speech you agree with. That's the big handicap lib/prog's have. They only like speech that agrees with them.

Back in the day when there was pushes to ban flag burning, and putting flags on womens asses I was always for the burners, even though it offended me greatly.

Besides, I offend more people with my HNIC stance that Titus ever could.

So you go Titus!!

Here's hoping for tt's and big hogs for the rest of your days!

Just the opposite.

Titus is now inoffensive (to me at least) because he has become predictable via repetition.

In that way, Titus is absolutely mainstream. We are all quite predictable, which we might just choose to call comfortable familiarity.

Important? Titus reports. You decide.

Sir Archy is stranded in past time. The Delorean broke down and he has not been seen since.

Lena Dunham period art is offensive!

Titus offensive?

Tedious, egotistical, self important, and snobbish, but not really offensive.
I know he tries to be , but just comes off a being silly.

Speaking of gay, where's Palladin?

If only the man could understand that there is some reality behind the stereotype of "Southern charm".

CArnifex: That's not entirely false, but I can't help but remember that I've seen plenty of people on the Right only like speech they agree with.

Actually not throwing a fit about speech you really don't agree with is a minority skill on both of the common sides.

(Hell, looking at the comments at Reason, it's not real big on the Libertarian side, either, sadly.)

I have missed Titus. Hasn't he been silent for awhile, or am I just not reading this blog as much as I used to?
I think he is entertaining, and a blog should always be entertaining.

He's entertaining in very small doses.

Titus loves Boston's lifestyle, so he is a good man.

But we will never get him to love small town dull life style again.

Titus comments here more lately because he was banned from Trooper York's (aka Baron Zemo) private blog. I'm glad to see him back here, even though he may be annoying at times (aren't we all?:))

All the best commenters are at Althouse, rather than elsewhere.

Actually, I've been seeing some familiar commenters back here again after an absence.

This!

I've read this blog since it's earliest days, and I have to say I've never seen him add value to comment thread. (Maybe he has once in a great while and I've missed it).

He is, once in a while, funny. But even that, not often.

I've never understood why Ann seems rather taken with him and his comments. I remember numerous posts of him describing the size and texture of his fecal matter. But I guess to some, that adds value to discussions...

I fully acknowledge that 1) Ann has the absolute right to decide what is and isn't appropriate for her blog and I have zero right to do so, and 2) It's not like my comments add tons of value either (I've commented maybe a dozen times over the years). But at least I don't make you listen to descriptions of my "hog" or my bowel movements.

Titus was kind of funny as a parody. We had one straightforward exchange and it was very nice. I wish I could have more of those interactions, but I really do not miss the parody so much.

Titus is fabulous. Amid his fabulousness, snobbery, and lightweight liberalism I have sometimes seen a hard-headed pragmatism that sets sets him apart from much of the liberal herd here.

Wasn't the Professor setting us a formula to solve?

No one seems to care about that.

Palladian and Meade had a falling out. I support Palladian in that conflict but hold my nose to post here.

I like Titus. As sophisticated and urbane as he seems, he is kind of a whoopee cushion in your salon.

He reminds me of my boyhood friend Tom. I wish Tom, who perished in the Aids epidemic, had lived long enough to enjoy the life Titus has.

Step 1. Collect underwear.

Step 2. "offensive + important + ??? + !!!"

Step 3. Profit.

Nope, almost fits, but not quite there yet.

I think Titus is great. His comments always sound honest and if they are offensive to someone, its not his fault. I also love his writing style and his hedonism.

I'm a straight male and his comments often feel like a wake up slap in the face. Way too many of us guys have disgusting bodies and habits, especially as we get older. We need to be reminded to say no to beer and eat more ruffage and yoghurt.

If he wrote a book I would buy it. At least someone should compile all his wisdom and crazy stories.
