Dead of a heart attack, which happened last night on board the Queen Elizabeth. He was 74.
You might think first of his interviews with Richard Nixon...
... but I remember him from the early 60s comedy show — a precursor to "The Daily Show" — "That Was the Week That Was."

I recall a satire he did with a very straight face about paste production in the Italian macaroni mines and the spaghetti groves.
I preferred the American version, if only for Tom Lehrer's wonderful satirical songs.
He was not part of my landscape, and I won't particularly miss him. But at my age I consider the death of anyone in their early seventies as a tragic and malign twist of fate. He had so much to offer the world and he was taken from us so soon.
Dale Light; you stole my sentiment! I've been a Tom Lehrer fan ever since.
I was in my early teens and TW3 was the one show that I ALWAYS watched.
TW3 was a precursor to the Daily Show as Pilsner Urquell is to micturition. One may have induced the other, but there is a serious decline in quality in the transformation.

OMG, I remember TW3. It was better than "The Daily Show" is now.
My parents used to watch the show and told me about it...like others, I know of it primarily for the Tom Lehrer songs and his album of a similar name.
