"Tom Brokaw declined his invitation to this year's White House Correspondents’ Dinner because of Lindsay Lohan."

"'Somewhere along the line, it began to freewheel out of control,' the renowned anchorman told Politico about the celeb-filled soiree, 'and the breaking point for me was Lindsay Lohan.'"
The trouble-making actress was invited as a guest of Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren at the 2012 dinner. Page Six’s Cindy Adams recalled how Lohan disappeared a few times to the bathroom for a cigarette and tipped a bathroom attendant a crumpled $100 and said, "You’re too old to be doing this."
Hey, Lindsay's right. We're all too old.

How condescending of Ms. Lohan, handing an adult who can find no better job to support herself (and family?) than work as a bathroom attendant a crumpled c-note, while telling her she's too old for the job. I'm sure Ms. Lohan thought she was being considerate and sympathetic.

What price will she fetch for her labors when she's even just a little older and more tarnished than she already is?

Lindsey at least raised the IQ of the crowd.

Meeting John Belushi was a highlight, but LL brings down the tone?

Let's face it, Tom's a bit of a snot..

Maybe he is too old.

Brokaw said in the Politico interview that he enjoyed attending the event in previous years, especially in 1975 when “Saturday Night Live” stars Chevy Chase and Jim Belushi made appearances.

Still more than you ever will I'm afraid. She still has the balance of youth on her side. There is still time for her redemption. She isn't dead yet. She may be tarnished goods, but the entertainment industry is very very tolerant of clean and sober comebacks. Robert Downy Jr., Sheen, and any other numbers of people with redemptive stories that can be capitalized on.

Cookie - I bet that attendant was used to hearing odd comments from restroom visitors and was thrilled to get the $100 tip. Giving the $100 was generous - I wonder how much Katie Couric or others like her tipped the attendant.

Brokaw's telling us he's too good for the likes of LiLo? He works for NBC News.

Who does he think he's kidding?

We'll know society's improving when commoners refuse to attend events because journalists and politicians have sullied them.

Umm, apparently he thinks the event has lost the dignity and gravitas it once had. I'm glad the rest of the administrations events have not fallen to that level.

"However, Brokaw said that standards of the red-carpet fete have now fallen so low that his “daughter’s junior prom has more dignity.”

The newsman has been vocal about his distaste for the soiree before. He told NBC’s “Meet the Press” last May, “Look, I think George Clooney is a great guy. I’d like to meet Charlize Theron. But I don’t think the big press event in Washington should be that kind of glittering event where the whole talk is about Cristal champagne, taking over the Italian Embassy, who had the best party, who got to meet the most people.”

He continued, “That’s another separation between what we’re supposed to be doing and what the people expect us to be doing, and I think that the Washington press corps has to look at that.”

This year's Correspondents' dinner is scheduled for Saturday and will be hosted by Conan O'Brien with expected stars like Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara and Nicole Kidman.

Lohan hasn't aspirated on her own vomit yet?

I won't use a bathroom that has an attendant. I don't even like to use a bathroom that has other bathroom-users in it.

A little two late to whine. Brokaw was around long, long ago when the dinner became a confluence of celeb journalists, hollywood celebs, and of course political celebs.

Now he is indignant that Lohan is just one celeb too many?

Van Susteren herself is no journalist - she is a hack lawyer that carved a niche as a more easygoing Nancy Grace in quest of attractive missing young white women. Lately by sucking up to any celeb, especially a political one -say, hawking her new reality show, or book, or how as a Hero of NYC.. his new security firm just needs 200 million from the Fed Gov't to protect us better from Terrahist Evildoahs.

Another bottom feeder. Not as low as Maddow, Hannity...but still a bottom feeder catering to "low information viewers" entraced by Gretas pimped celebs.

Cedar's just mad because Greta jumped from CNN to Fox and is living proof it's much better there.

Lohan is good at her sills and well paid for her talents, and she makes Obama's Secret Service Agents feel at home.

It's Lohan's authenticity that Brokaw hates.

LOL! Neither is Tom Brokaw.

I've got new found respect for LiLo! What a generous and classy deed!

Lohan was condescending in tipping a $100. What she should have done is try living a day on $1.50.

Nice to see that his principles don't include compromising his objectivity by attending a White House dinner.

I was going to go too, but didn't like the crowd there. Me and Tom, we have our standards, don't forget it.

I remember a few instances sitting in a chow hall in the myriad shit holes of the world and seeing Brokaw on the screen on the news channel TV's. He said things and framed "news" in ways that made most of us very angry. Fortunately we didn't have time to watch a lot of TV. Tom Brokaw is a condescending worthless piece of shit. Of course he was better than Wolf Blitzer and some of the "war correspondents" who blabbered their bullshit from some hotel behind 6 walls of Hesco Barriers. There are maybe 3 people I can think of on any news program that are worth a shit and should be allowed to associate with decent people. Does journalism self-select for soulless monsters?

For a subhuman like Brokaw to complain about Lindsy Lohan's appearance at the event is laughable. History will count these human slimemoulds as the wretches they are.

Face it Tom, you just didn't want to part with 100 bucks.

bagoh20 said...

I would pay 100 bucks to be that attendant for that day.

Just for the chance to confront these slimy sub-human pieces of shit and let them know they may look down on us, but that we make their worthless existence and the freedom they abuse and discredit possible...

Tell me you got something better to do.

I'm also uncomfortable with bathroom attendants. I know what I'm doing, I've done it before, and I don't need help. Like elevator operators--why are they there? What service are they providing?

Brokaw may be an imperfect messnger, but he's right and if he can knock this bit of sense into a few more star-fucking journalists, then good for him.

Brokaw is a teenage girl, a prima donna bitching that another prima donna stole the limelight.

Go scratch LiLo's eyes out, Tom.

Tom Brokaw is acting like 1950's squaresville, man. He needs to sit across the table from Lohan and get a "Leave It To Beaver" moment as he bends down to tie the laces of of his shoe.

lemondog said...

What is the point of celebs at this type function..... to break the monotony of engaging in the same-old boring/annoying tripe from their peer group?

Tom Brokaw :: Lindsay Lohan.

There's a difference?

Brokaw is sexist and insensitive to the illness of addiction. That's what we would be hearing if it were Brit Hume saying this.

Brokaw scanned the room from table no. 34. 'Center right, not bad' he thought, 'but where's Jennings'?

After settling in, and choosing the steak, he let the din wash over him. The raucous laughter and shameless schmoozing suddenly struck this man from the Dakotas, god-fearing and tireless in his service to the mostly German farming communities of his youth.

'This used to mean something, dammit' he muttered under his breath.

This was worse than high school prom. None of these people had seen the fog of wartime reporting.

Then, from across the room, he caught sight of a young woman's silhouette.

'Is that Lindsay fucking Lohan?'

Baron Zemo said...

I bet that bathroom attendant was more than happy to get a $100 tip.

That was more than the rest of those worthless journalist scum gave the poor woman. Combined.
