Jack Klugman has died.

At the age of 90. You probably think of "The Odd Couple" or, maybe "Quincy," but here he is in a 1960 episode of "The Twilight Zone," called "A Passage for Trumpet":

Wow. He seemed old when he played Quincy. That was my brother's favorite show. We watched it all the time.

Terrific character actor - TV Guide once described him as "The Compleat Schnook".

And he was golden with Tony Randall - I mean light years better than Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

And he could handle a switchblade too.

Twelve Angry Men

One of 12 Angry Men, appropriate considering he was once married to 'what's her name' Brett Somers.

Watched him in "Bullit" last nite.

What a great Twilight Zone episode. The best writing and the best young actors. Nothing really equals it on TV today.

He looked well into middle age in that Twilight Zone clip even though he was only 37 or 38 at the time.

The actor playing the pawnbroker was Ned Glass, who had a long career as a character actor, appearing in 70 movies and over 100 television episodes.

Jack Klugman ate in my small California town restaurant in 1984, a place celebrities only passed by on the interstate. Unfailingly polite, he signed autographs and stayed until the last person wanting to talk to him was done. He even asked people about themselves.

A class act.

I don't know...I always liked both pairs and how they developed the relationship.

I definitely think that it would have been a disaster if somehow the partners had been switched..I don't think either Tony and Walter or Jack and Jack would have worked.

Actually that Twilight Zone episode is Jack Klugman for me.

Watched that episode recently on SciFi channel. Klugman was a great actor. I liked him in everything I ever saw him do. Like Synova, I was surprised he was still alive.

He was in several Twilight Zone episodes. The one I remember was "A Game of Pool" in which he plays the late "Fats" Brown (Johnathan Winters) for the all-time pool championship.

Charles Durning has also died.

Notice in the film clip shown that there is a 1959 Ford parked on the right as the evil Dodge truck comes around the corner but as the truck strikes the man, its gone and a 59 Mercury is in the next space

One significant Twilight Zone episode featuring Klugman was "In Praise of Pip" (1963).

Klugman plays a small-time bookie, Phillips, whose only love is his son, who is a soldier fighting in Vietnam. His son is badly wounded in combat (perhaps the first time that a TV drama showed Vietnam combat) and may die.

He also played well with Jack Lemmon as his sponsor in Days of Wine and Roses.
