McCaskill 48%, Akin 38%.

Rasmussen, today.

Now that Akin is toast, we should talk about how the official RNC platform and VP candidate Ryan both don't believe in a rape exception for abortion.

It's pretty obvious how to defeat the Christianists in America. We just have to ask them to explain to America what they believe.

Their idiocy and illogical and hate is so self-evident that the vast majority of America recoils in horror and rejects them.

Since rape resulting in pregnancy is at .0005% - this is a big deal!

Rape. Ovulation. Vagina. Death to the fetus. Obama is for partial birth abortion. weee.

Andy, do you believe that a woman 39 weeks pregnant has the right to an abortion?

Claire McCaskill is one of the worst money grubbing money wasting senators we have, and we get to keep her. Oh joy.

I hope, at least, she is pro vagina.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a good outcome, even for conservatives. Claire McCaskill seems to be a pretty good person, and she's not as stupid as Akin. So she's a Democrat-- so what? Dems will find it difficult to vote leftward next year.

"His (Ryan's) view was noticeably absent from the Romney campaign's initial reaction to Akin's comments, which stated: "Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan disagree with Mr. Akin's statement, and a Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape.""

Ryan's view does not matter here, Romney's view does. Trying to frighten people that Romney would oppose abortion in instances of rape is just uninformed scaremongering.

Andy is stuck in a silly Andrew Sullivan Christianist hate loop.

Well, AprilApple, maybe I'm wrong-- is McCaskill so bad? I'm not from MO, and I haven't seen the evidence. What are the big complaints?

Salamandyr said...

Andy, do you believe that an abortionist should end a 13 year old girls pregnancy without informing either her guardian or the police?

Do you believe that it should be legal to induce labor in a late term pregnant woman, allow the fetus to enter the birth canal, and then shove a scalpel into its head, vacuum its brain out, then dismember it for easier passage out of the woman's body?

Do you believe that a fetus, accidentally born alive after a botched abortion, should be thrown alive into the medical waste disposal, or have its throat slashed by the doctor?

He is only down by that little? After the lamestream media and the east coast moderate Republican establishment trashed him? Give him time and he will come back. The good voters of Kansas will not be herded that easily by New York media elites and weak kneed country club Republicans. Romney has shown his true colors with this episode.

Matt Sablan said...

Quite frankly, the problem is not Todd Akin's position on abortion. It's his moral cowardice in defending it.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Well, for starters, Claire went against the voters wishes and voted for ObamaCare, which is very unpopular in MO.

There's actually still plenty of time for Akin to get the lead back, as liberal overreaction creates backlash, or as people actually ponder the choice of letting McCaskill stay in office due to one stupid statement by Akin on a topic that probably won't come up in any legislative way during Akin's term.

It would be better if Akin withdrew, maybe.

But if he doesn't, it will be interesting to see how this plays out:

1) If Akin wins, will liberals see this as a rebuke of their ideology, or will they just make disparaging comments about Missouri voters?

2) If Akin loses but the GOP still regains control of the Senate, will liberals rethink their "War on Women" propaganda?

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Akin's apology was the dumbest most embarrassing thing going.
It's not the rape rape rape, it's his ineptitude.

Non-Christians, like Muslims and Jews, who are try to take over this country know that splitting America from its core values will get them closer to their main objectives. Abortion is key to this stratergy. So that is why there is this constant drum beat of making good Americans who believe in life out to be kooks because they oppose the killing of innocent babies. The religions of death have no such quams.

Have there been any pieces of legislation passed during the last four years that you didn't like? Well, she's a Democrat, so she voted for those. She also used taxpayer money to fuel a private plane for close to 100 flights between DC and her home (she said the flights were all within Senate rules but cut a check for $88,000 to the Treasury when the story broke) and failed to pay close to $300,000 in taxes on the same plane.

That's just what wiki lists.

For one thing, we need enough Senate votes to repeal Obamacare. MO was one we were counting on. Now it's likely lost to the other side.

Hat, it's the Christians who are the root of your concerns. The problem is too many potential voters will sit the election out, thinking neither party will stand up to their influence. That's why I urge you to go to Charlotte and rally the Democratic Party to take a principled stand and call Christianity stupid and evil.

Speaking of commenting, I'm going to have to quit until the word verification system gets fixed. I have better things to do than typing in that shit 10 times.

I would need to think more about medical professionals reporting to police before I weighed in on that.

How can he remain a viable candidate?

I still don't get how liberals are able to support aborting a child after 7 months of pregnancy... or even after three months for that matter. It is totally sick. How far is that from just gassing handicap people?

I mean if a gal was pregnant - say at 14 weeks - and a guy came up and stabbed her in the belly for the purpose of killing her unborn child? Why isn't that murder?

Sloanasaurus said...

Les say you were 6 months pregnant and someone came up and stabbed you in the belly for the sole purpose of murdering your unborn child. Wouldn't that be murder? What if your unborn child was the product of a "forcible" rape. Would it not be murder anymore beause of the rape fact?

Take heart Paterno supporters! Pedophilia is fashionable in the Party of God! (Come to think of it, both Joe and Jerry were big-time GOP fundraisers in PA.)

It would appear that of the 9% who have abandoned Akin, 4% went to McCaskill and 5% to some other candidate presumably to be named later.

Now, if no other candidate presents herself, will that 5% or so go back to Akin? That's his only hope.

Claire Mac was also one of the very first to throw in with Obama during the 2008 primary battles. For Obama critics that alone may be sin enough.

It gave Obama significant female cred at a time when breaking ranks with Hilary was still the exception rather than the rule. It was a high risk move for Claire Mac at the time, and to my knowledge I've not noticed any reciprocity from the white house for Claire or MO in return. You'd think that we would at least have gotten more than our fair share of stimulus money out of the deal.

Bottom line - she's done much for Obama and democrat initiatives in the senate, but what has she done for MO?

"-- To be fair, it wasn't a Republican found in a compromising position with a non-adult"

Not true, Matt. Sandusky was definitely GOP. And Paterno was Mr. GOP in PA.

You remember his seconding speech for GHW Bush at the '88 convention, don't you? He really brought down the house. The good folks of the Moral Majority ate it up and begged for more, as I recall.

As recently as a year ago, any GOP official in PA would have told you to expect a 10-point win for the ticket. It didn't matter who the Republicans ran, so they said. That's how unpopular Obama was.

But all that's changed now. It must be nearly two months since I've seen a Romney campaign ad on Pittsburgh TV. A smattering of SuperPAC ads; that's it. I don't think Romney/Ryan even has a campaign office in town, which surely must be a first. If they have one, their campaign website doesn't list it, and the phone number must be unlisted. The ticket is way behind in PA, and is sinking fast. If PA already is off the table, I have a hard time believing Romney/Ryan has much of a chance nationally in November, although much ink is left to be spilled, and air time filled, about the purported horse race.

What could have caused this dramatic sea change, Matt? It sure as hell isn't anything Obama said or did.

Here are some articles by a member of one of the best-known conservative families in the state. His brother was the first guy to take on Specter, back in the '92 Senate primary, and was the originator, as far as I know, of what is now known as the Akin/Ryan approach to abortion in the case of rape. The author's take on the PSU affair probably is a little different than what you've been reading.

If Obama retains office on November 6, I would expect the Justice Department to announce an investigation of our attorney general/governor's handling of the Sandusky investigation somewhere around November 7. (Who do you suppose put the arm on those Second Mile board members for the $640,000 in contributions for Corbett, Matt? I have a guess, or maybe two.)

Nathan queries:

Well, we might see many liberals do both of these things at the same time. I myself would probably engage in a bit of both, were Akin actually to win a Senate seat.

Thank goodness conservatives don't make disparaging comments about voters in liberal states. "Anti-American," "elitist," etc. Those would be the sort of terms that the Althouse comment boards would hardly recognize!

"If Akin loses but the GOP still regains control of the Senate, will liberals rethink their "War on Women" propaganda?"

That's an interesting question. One of the things it assumes (by labeling it "propaganda") is that liberals do not believe that there is such a thing as a GOP "War on Women," but only talk about it to persuade "swing voters."

I think, on balance, that assumes a degree of bad faith that just isn't there in the arguments liberals are making when it comes to social issues.

100 Fleet Street appears to be a vacant building in the Borough of Green Tree.

The phone number is a Sprint cell phone; no answer, but the voice message indicates it belongs to some guy named "Bob." It doesn't sound very official. No call back yet from "Bob," but I'll keep you posted. And, BTW, there still is no listing for Pittsburgh, address or phone, on the official R/R 2012 campaign website.

Don't believe the first thing that pops up on Google, kid.

As I said, the only ads I've seen on Pittsburgh TV have been SuperPAC ads; none from the R/R Campaign. That doesn't mean there aren't any; it may surprise you, but I don't monitor my TV 24x7.

Akin is as arrogant as he is foolish. The Missouri Republican party is just as stupid or more. It was no secret who McCaskill wanted to run against and what she was doing to get her chosen opponent nominated.

She's doing everything she can right now to save him. No negative ads here yet. They'll wait to see if his ego will keep him in the race. After the 25th of next month his name will appear on the ballot even if he's dead on election day. After that they'll plaster him.

In the meantime they don't even have to do anything. He's down over 20 points in the polls and still plunging. But he gives no sign he will quit. This moron thinks he can take a campaign that relied on the loon wing of his base state wide and win. Blinded by ego.

If he's determined to kamikaze this race the Republicans should refuse to caucus with him should he, by some miracle, win. And announce it now. Because he says he can still win and he needs to be persuaded that it's no use. There is no measure too extreme if necessary to get this crap weasel out of the way.
