... presenting Romney as the main character in a movie — "in a world..." — facing a terrible challenge and having very little hope....
I don't know if you're rolling on the floor laughing at all that comedy, but here's what I think. In the stereotypical "in a world..." movie trailer presenting one man who's up against a seemingly insurmountable challenge, that character is a hero, and in the movie, we identify with him and he wins.
AND: Some background on those "in a world" trailers (originated and implemented by "The Voice" Don LaFontaine):

The Obama reelection slogan should be "YES WE CAN'T".
Convention full of slick packaging sounds like the DNC 4 years ago with Greek columns etc.
I am ROFL because it sounds so not serious and over the top especially right after reading this article: Learning to like Mitt . Well I didn't have to struggle to learn to like Mitt. My ability to judge people is top notch and I saw it in 2008 and I see it now.
{Ann, would you do a post on the book, The Real Romney?}
A bunch of my fb friends have seen and reacted to 2016: Obama's America -- the movie (it's apparently unflattering for BHO).
Why would Obama's team bring out a fake movie trailer, when there's an unflattering movie about Obama right now?
They talk about the Romster's favorability in the trailer - right now it's up and Zero's is down.
Funny how that's worked out.
I think Obama's campaign did this to try and muddy the waters vis a via the 2016 movie. If they can figure out a way to put in the minds of people that 2016 is equally a cornball parody, it might blunt the effectiveness of it, before it had a chance to get off the ground.
However, 2016 is a pretty serious movie. I'd encourage anyone here to go see it.
Why to keep on the negativity, Team Obama!
I note that 2016 is playing in two theaters in Madison. To full houses? Empty ones? Are heads exploding in the theater? Are there cries of "Shame, shame, shame?" Inquiring minds want to know...Meade? Althouse?
So far, Mitt is:
- a felon
- a vampire capitalist
- a viral agent capable of giving old ladies cancer
- a supporter of insemination via rape
- a vicious racist bigot
- a shape shifter
Not bad. How can you dislike evil in such concentrated form?
That actually IS funny! Of course, when your first two "critics" are Salon.com and the WaPo, it's bogus as hell, but it is funny.
It's strange to sit out an election - and not like either guy - because everything looks different, especially the partisans. They just come off as silly:
Romney fans can't see anything they don't want, and Obama's are determined to do the same, no matter what.
I think Romney will win, but know we'll lose either way, so it'll just be the second presidential election night in a row where MY choice will be between watching coverage and getting drunker than Otis.
It won't be a punch in the gut, like 2008, but it's not going to be good,...
It's funny. I liked it, and I'm voting for Romney.
Ooga Booga!
It da white man! He comin' to get you!
Run!
This is just another example of the Obama campaign flailing away trying to find something to run on.

Sounds like a character on True Blood.Maybe next year, after dealing with the authority the gang can take on Mitt and his shape shifting vampire brood.

The important thing is how the swing vote will react. I can't get inside their head. Will they think here's a responsible daddy who can fix things, or here's an evil, money-grubbing goober?

He could be both, of course.
WE LOVE YOU, DON!!!
The video states that Mitt Romney's favorabiity rating is about half of the President's. CNN Opinion Research has them about tied in favorability, and from the beginning of the year, they were never more than 15 points apart. I know it's just a movie, but still...

Rick Caird: Amen.
I understand that Democrats vote for Democrats and don't like Republicans. I get that, but it would be nice if they were honest enough to notice that Obama has run the two most emotional, content-free campaigns in modern times.
In 2008 it was Hope and Change; Obama is the Messiah. In 2012 it is Fear and Don't Change; Romney is the Devil.
I find it stunning that they not only spend money on stuff like this, but they don't try to hide the fact. Campaign contributions for video games!
Yes the democrats new campaign message will be "you want four more years of this shit." Thats all they have left to say.
I beg to differ with that ad. (And I hope you're not fooling us that it's a real ad. It's that bad.)
The crowds would suggest the RR team is way ahead in momentum. Paul Ryan even had a fainter the other day and called in the EMS. I don't believe Obama has had a single one this time.
So there.
Team Obama is stupid for making the concept of the do-over out to be a bad thing; after all, their guy is running for re-election!
I hope Bill Clinton's speech at the DNC is:
"It's the economy, stupid."
Don LaFontaine died in 2008.
