Good ad, but 53% of the American voters wanted to redistribute wealth last time around; how many of them do you think care about deficits or debt, especially if addressing them involves cuts rather than tax increases?
My own guess is, not enough to swing the election from Obama to Romney, no matter how good the ads are.
People who want to live at someone else's expense rarely decide to not do so on their own. I'm afraid we passed the tipping point in '08.
I desperately hope I'm wrong, but I would never bet on people dumb enough to vote for the least experienced person ever nominated by a major political party for president to do the right thing.
"I would never bet on people dumb enough to vote for the least experienced person ever nominated by a major political party for president to do the right thing."
Just have some camouflage to hide from the drones the day after the election.
"He faced a $400 million budget deficit and turned that around into a $100 million surplus."
Did Romney build that?
"I am big believer in getting money where the money is," Romney said in an address to the New Bedford Industrial Foundation on Oct. 16, 2002. "The money is in Washington."
“I want to go after every grant, every project, every department in Washington to assure that we are taking advantage of economic development opportunities,” the candidate explained.
"We actually received over $410 million from the federal government for the Olympic games," Romney boasted. "That is a huge increase over anything ever done before and we did that by going after every agency of government."
Garage: As long as the government hands out money, people will take out. The Olympics, also, is a national endeavor meant to be the pride of the nation. Government investment in making the Olympics successful is mils different from investing in Solyndra.
As a side-benefit? The Olympics succeeded. Solyndra failed. The loan guarantee for Solyndra? $500+ million, if memory serves.
Garage - Romney was smart enough to tap Bush's nutty belief that deficits don't matter and no money was too little for the "Heroes fighting the Evildoers and keeping us All Safe".
That was back in the days when the Feds were throwing hundreds of millions, then billions, to the States for 22 pair of police dog "counter-terror" body armor in Tennessee and half a million for a "terror bomb blast containment device" to the West Virginia hometown of some Dem Congressman Bush was wooing on his Iraq vote.
Most of the Fed money was for post-9/11 related security.
Quite a different story than Obama rewarding connected donors with billions for failed Green Energy and failed Green Jobs cluster fucks.
The top priority for the largest number of Americans was creating good jobs, which was named extremely important or very important by 92 percent of respondents. The next? Reducing corruption in the federal government, which was called extremely or very important by 87 percent. The third most important issue was reducing the federal budget deficit, at 86 percent
That whole experience thing is no match for Awesomeness.
But Carville is saying the Demos haven't without a lot more money and it's looking like Willie may end up being a kind of co-nominee at the Convention.
PS On the other side of the pond, the Romster is about to be welcomed by his old friend, Lech Walesa, while the big c communists in Blighty have even more egg on their faces.
Garage is saying (in his own inimitable way) that, unlike Obama, who has had about 20 fundraisers for every 1 cabinet meeting... Romney will roll up his sleeves"by going after every agency of government".
It's just rare to see a celebrity endorse -a Republican candidate- through paid advertisements. Or at least, feels rare, comparatively.
Exactly: I cannot recall a single one. Democrats are a different story: Obama, of course, had a cornucopia of them in 2008, and his 2012 ad campaign started with Wintour & SJP.
"It's just rare to see a celebrity endorse -a Republican candidate- through paid advertisements. Or at least, feels rare, comparatively."
There may well be a difference between the glam celebs of Hollywood vs. hard working athletes. I doubt Yamaguchi buys into the "you didn't build that" line.

I hope it sticks.
But I've never been disappointed underestimating the ability of stupid people to learn from their mistakes.
Romney pushed that "I saved the Olympics" theme in the primaries.
And 60-65 percent of primary voters responded with, "yawn, BFD."
Personally, I have ZERO recollection of the Salt Lake City games. Even if I did, so he's got experience as an event planner. BFD. So does The Apprentice. Maybe it is a step above community organizer, maybe not. But still, BFD.
What Romney demonstrated is he took available taxpayer money and turned a profit for the state. Obama on the other hand took available taxpayer money and borrowed a few trillion more and mired the nation deeper in debt.
Given that, Romney earns my trust with taxpayer funds.
Our fiscal problem is that we have 2.8 trillion in tax revenues and a fairly incompetent government spending 4 trillion dollars. The optimistic case for Romney is he will turn that to an excellent government, the best that 2.7 trillion can buy. He will go after the DoD but in logistics and procurement, not at the pointy end of the stick. If he just stops departments from protecting their least useful programs by holding their most important responsibilities hostage, he'll have accomplished a sea change in DC.
My understanding is that he did that, in miniature, for the SLC games.
Romney would only approach Obama's degree of idiocy on this topic if he proposed a law to force Olympic medalists to lend their medals a few days a week to Mom, their coach, and their pothead Call of Duty-playing cousin who drove them to the airport a couple of times.

Wow- just think what he could do with a 17 trillion dollar deficit.

Garage does have all the talking points.

Tim,
From the latest Gallup Poll:

You people have garage all wrong.
Garage is saying (in his own inimitable way) that, unlike Obama, who has had about 20 fundraisers for every 1 cabinet meeting... Romney will roll up his sleeves "by going after every agency of government".
Look it.. even garage is endorsing Romney.
The flip side of "He tried...It's Okay to make a change."
"He tried, he succeeded. It's okay to like/vote for Mitt."
Surprised to see celebs endorse candidate through a Super Pac ad.

Sorry, guys,
shoulda been -
But Carville is saying the Demos haven't got a prayer without a lot more money.
Doctor's appt this morning
So it's ROF vs WTF in Nov.

Reminds me of an old jackie Mason joke on how to get congress to stop spending so much; give them a commission for every dollar saved.

Remember athletes: Mitt Romney said Olympians didn't "get their on their own."
Great. Just great. Somebody ought to fire off an attack ad to run during the Olympics.
On the plus side for mittens, he has Kristi Yamaguchi's vote!
And yes, America's taxpayers bailed out the SLC olympics.
Now that's some community organizing!

Yeah, and he was totally talking about the federal government helping them!
He was!!!
Idiot.
That's the point, garage. Thanking moms is not the same as thanking Big Mother Government.
To put it another way: thanking moms is not the same as demanding gratitude, credit, and recompense as a representative of Big Mother Government.

Nice ad in the RSS feed. "Liberty University: Training Champions for Christ!"

Please tell me he can turn a 2 trillion dollar deficit into any kind of a surplus.
I'll even take a billion dollar surplus.
Our fiscal problem is that we have 2.8 trillion in tax revenues and a fairly incompetent government spending 4 trillion dollars.
