The new wave of purple.

Just as the allium — seen here in the cast shadows — fade to green-brown, the irises pop.

Paddy O, I've been meaning to ooh and ahh over your cute baby.

Oooh! Aaah! Adorable.

Purple counties will be the deciders of the upcoming recall election in Wisconsin and purple states will hold the key to the national election this fall. Power to the purple!

I never popped an Iris, they were too old. I wonder how many girls in the past 50 years have been named Iris? It's a good name, it should make a comeback

Purple replaces purple but the purple goes on;
There is no equality twixt purple and the throng.

Very nice, Madame. With all the social, economic, and political upheaval, we've been denied your views of nature.

PS Knew a sweetheart named Hazel, another name that ought to come back.

Flowers bloom. Interior decorators like to say colors "pop" like it is a decorator's palette trick.

OK, maybe Meade is an Exterior Decorator."

Our allium and lupines are just about done too. On to Bee Balm!

I'm kinda wondering how early the Japanese Beetles will be out this year. The rose has been great to look at, free from the beetle blight.

Go Northwestern!

pfenning, I know an attorney who went to Northwestern back in the 70's. He said they would all sing Purple Haze when the football team was introduced.

I attacked our Japanese Beetle population with a Beyer Cylutherin spray for three years. For the last two years, they have been very diminished or absent. I have not seen any so far this year.

This is my garden's blue season - blue columbine, siberian iris, false indigo, scabiosa and cranesbill. The yellows and pinks (foxglove, peonies, lady's mantle and yellow loosestrife) are blooming, but are overshadowed by the blue. This gardening moment gives me pleasure.

So the allium are a shadow of their former selves?
